I've just found out today that our venue is changing their style of food service. It's going from table service with a good selection on British dishes to a all you can eat buffet style service with Indian, Chinese, Italian and British.

As we are just having close family for the meal we decided on having some of the downstairs restaurant sectioned off and we picked 3 choices off the menu for our guests.

The plus side of it is there is more of a selection for our guests, the minus side is the few fussy eaters we have in the family.

The only way we will get the sit down meal we picked is to have it in the hall upstairs we have for the reception.

I really don't know what to do for the best as I don't want to have a small amount of us eating in the big hall we have for the reception as I think it will look silly but I don't want all the fussy ones to moan and make things hard. I know most of the guests will be happy with the change but it's just a select few.

    What would you do?

Is it fussy or genuine allergies & intolerances? If its the former, then tough luck if they don't like it. If its the latter, then speak to the venue, see if they can provide an allergy free meal or two? They should be able to do that for you , after all, it's no-ones fault if they are allergic to stuff.

I have a serious food sensitivity, so I'll make sure one of the meal choices are gluten free, but I'm not entertaining my super-fussy aunt who will sit there telling you how she can't eat chocolates, all the while stuffing her face with them while she tells you... (Oh, but it changes week to week).

P.s. buffets are a nightmare for people who are super sensitive to foods... People mix the utensils, crumbs get dropped in things that shouldn't have crumbs etc... You can always ask for theirs to be served straight from the kitchen before the rest gets put out for th buffet

They are just fussy. There is no allergies at all. The time we are having our meal is when the evening buffet starts so hopefully we shouldn't have a problem with crumbs and utensils getting mixed up.

I know the easiest thing to do is to say stuff them, if they don't like it tough but I don't think I can put up with all the grief that will go along with it.

Every family seems to have one eh!

If you have put a deposit down and signed a contract and your heart is set on the sit down meal, I would insist that you confirmed your booking on that basis and that they should stick to their terms.

I have done all that, being honest I kinda like the idea of the bigger choice and I love Chinese food, I would happily eat that.

Well if you like it then why not go for it?? If its a good selection then surely they can find at least one item they like - my friends a fussy pain in the backside, but nearly everywhere does chips so she'll keep quiet and eat them all night if thats all there is and its a do for someone else. So as long as their one item they're happy with, then they can keep eating that - at least they're getting fed. And more importantly you'll have something you enjoy!
