Ok I thought i had this one all wrapped up but BOY did i get that wrong!

Ok I have ALWAYS said I want this wedding to be completly different to my first right down to the cake and favours.
So the first time round i had a round 3 tier SEPERATED cake (one of those stands that you put 3 cakes on so they LOOK like a 3 tier cake but its actually 3 cakes) with white icing.
This time I want a 3 tier black slightly off centre square cake (complete opposite hay :-))


BUT

We went to a wedding fair on sunday and matt has fallen in love with a cake stand that i must admit is GORJUS but its a 3 tier seperated cake stand and he wants round cakes on it (even tho the pic she had had square ones on it and it looked just as good)

Soooooooooo ladies my question is do you think it will matter that this cake will be similar to my first wedding if i go with his choice??
I would still have the black icing and red roses decorating it (first time i had pale lilac flowers running down all 3) but im just worried ppl will think aww you have the same as last time!!
(my sister saw my dress and said it was similar to the last one, ermm of course my tastes havent changed that much and my other sister was at the wedding fair with us and the first thing she said when h2b said abount the stand was didnt you have one similar the last time?????)

I shouldnt worry too much, how many people are going to look at the cake and think 'that looks like the first one she had....', to be honest, how many people would remember anyway? Doubt many people could remember the cake I had the first time around! I barely can! This wedding IS different, you are marrying someone different for a start, it doesnt really matter if the cake style is similar, and as you said the decoration is different hun. Our tastes dont have to change over the years, and I would say my dress is fairly similar to the one I wore before too... its just personal taste! It doesnt have to have a deep psychological meaning that just because we choose a similar cake and a similar dress we are trying to capture the past and relive our first weddings! xx

It WILL be a different cake though! Different colour, different decorations, probbably different flavour, so what that shape is simillar?!
Most cakes are round anyway.
I dont think you have to have everything opposite to what you had on your previous wedding. You are not wearing a black trouser suit just becouse of that are you!? :)

its only gonna get eaten ... who cares if its a similar stand....it doesnt mean that its anything slighty like your wedding before ... ignore people and i bet on the day no one will notce... plus its nice that h2b wants his input too

I know where you are coming from when you said everything the first time around was decided by other people, I was 18 when I got married the first time in 1989 (feels like a lifetime ago!) My mum arranged the cake to be made and I didnt see it until the day before. She arranged the flowers and I didnt see them until the wedding morning (she also arranged for the florist to deliver a bunch of flowers to her too as a thank you gift!) She picked the venue, and even got me a dress to wear (that was quite hideous and I ended up losing shed loads of weight so it would be too big and at least I got to get a second hand dress from a charity shop that was half decent!) I dont really remember being involved in any of the planning at all. Big difference this time! xx

Exactly jane, i was also 18 the first time, dress was nice but because of the distance didnt fit me so kept falling off :-(
the cake was made by an uncle and was all fruit and i hate cake anyway so wanted a plain top so i could at least have a bite, the photos was also done by an uncle and although we only paid £50 and got 500 odd photos we maybe got four decent ones because he was drunk. I think the only thing i truely loved was the dvd as my godfarther did it as a surprise (was a professional camera man and did shows such as 'you bet') and it was fantastic had all our fav songs in the background lots of personal messages and just a brill dvd........sadly he died in september after a long battle with cancer so wont be there this time, except in my heart!

Ok lil update! Just to throw a spanner in the works lol

On sunday we entered this ladies free prize draw and ive just received an email saying ive won

Now i have an option
1, a bouquet holder (the reason i entered was because i said this was an added expense so she said not if i win it lol)
or
2, A single tier cake stand (this is the one I wanted for MY design and normally costs £30 to hire)


Now do I go with my design and get the stand FREE Or get matts design (the stand for that is £35 to hire) and get the bouquet holder!

Oh and in the middle is the two tier stand but ignore that one lol

Good idea if you want 9 tiers but dont have the guests lol

Dont worry so much about the cake Hails.....I'm getting married at the same hotel as last time and I dont care as it is where Kev wants to get married and it was years ago but even funnier my BIL to be 's Dad was my wedding co=ordinator last time as he was the MD of the hotel and it was his last wedding before he retired.. and he is coming to our wedding LOL
