We are getting married in a Catholic Church so have to attend a marriage preparation course. Luckily it's only one day 9am-5pm. Just wondering if anybody else has done this and what it involves on the day?

You have to have a marriage prep course? I think the last 8 years of living with my OH has been sufficient prep lol

lol what's a marriage prep course? I think 12 years with my partner has prepped me enough without someone potentially patronising us lol

I think the Catholic church is slightly different and they 'need' to know its not a marriage being entered into lightly an d that its going to last. (Not saying its any different from any other religion/non religion)

I have no idea what it entails though, Im sure its not going to be anything you cant handle.

I agree - we have been together 11 years and have got 3 kids so I think that's more of a commitment that marriage.

I'm sure it'll be fine, was just wondering if anybody else has done it.

We have to meet with our own priest afterwards to get the ball rolling - he then speaks to us separately, just got visions of mr & mrs lol.

I will be going to one 9:30-4:30 and paying £50 as it goes towards cost of hiring hall and refreshments etc
From what I'm aware it's about marriage and the origins of it , problem solving , expectations and about the meaning of your marriage vows and promises.

Even though me and H2B have been together 6 years I don't mind going on this course as I see this as part of the process to get married :)

    Ours course cost £85.
I'm hoping it might be insightful, think the priest mentioned it included how to resolve conflict so that would be really helpful :)

My priest mentioned that apparently in the USA if you complete this course they give discount on marriage ceremony and that in the future churches may look for that over here too :)
H2B has been baptized however I have never been baptized however was brought up with catholic beliefs and I do believe in the catholic faith so seeing this as important part of wedding build up as it part of the faith :)
One thing is as well there will be other couples who you could make friends with so expanding social group too :)

I understand that different faiths are here, but I honestly think, if people need a marriage prep course, maybe they should be reconsidering marriage? That's just my opinion though, I fully understand that different faiths have different beliefs and values.

I get what you mean GF but it's not like counselling or for people having problems in their marriage it's more the history of marriage and if problems do arise down the line they give suggestions or advice on things that could help the couple through . Also with the build up of to the wedding day sometimes people focus on the day and not the days after so something like this can be a time out and focus what the day is for :)
