    hi all!!
hope you are all well, i'm wondering if anyone can help me with this problem, myself and my partner are getting married in september this year, we both live in west yorkshire, but we are getting married in county durham at my family's parish church (roman catholic), the priest told me when i spoke to him 6 months ago that he carries out all paperwork etc 6 months prior to the wedding, but i have one problem, the marriage licence, as we both live in a different county to where we care getting married i have been told by the registar in durham that we are to stay in the noth ast for up to 8 days to prove residency, and need to report to them on the first and 8th day in order to get our licence, but someone else told me i don't have to do this.
I have no idea what i do or do not need to do now, i've tried contacting the priest dealing with this, but obviously due to the festive period, has been busy and hasnt replied to me as yet. has anyone out there any idea what i do/ do not need to do, or is in a similar situation.
    jen :-)

As far as I know you give Notice in Yorkshire and they give the license to give in in Durham.

I've heard that you can just set up some post to go to an address and that can class as proof you are 'there' rather than having to go and camp out in your mums house etc. Get something formal like your bank statements sent there and that can act as proof I think. Check it out though first as I don't know how reliable this is.

We live in Hertfordshire, gave our notice in June last year - In Hertfordshire. They as you where you are getting married and once its in their system it flags up to the town you are planning on getting married. They send you a letter telling you to send your notices to them.
They do it all for you hun, you don't need to move to the town you want to be married in at all. xxx

thanks guys for the help, i'm still waiting for the priest to ring me to explain, but i'm going up there for a few days in a few weeks for my sisters birthday, so going to try and sort as much as possible while i'm up there, i'd read on a few sites about notice, but nothing with much detail as to what i need to do!!! hopefully i'll get it all sorted!! one thing i'm looking forward to is ordering my dress!!!! yay xx

when i asked my priest, he said you get your license from your home town - - its either your home town or its whichever council district you live in. I think you need to get permission from them to marry in a different district. x

I would ring your local town hall and explain the situation to them, they will be able to give you the correct advice. xxxx

I would ring the registry office and ask them. They are the ones that deal with it after all. Ring your local one and if you need to go somewhere else, they will tell you. xx
