Hiya All, (hope this is on the right category please change if its not)
Wondered if anyone could help me, I found online the prices needed to do the following
    * Fee for entering a notice of marriage
    * Fee payable to a Superintendent Registrar before whom a civil marriage is to be solemnised in approved premises.
I wanted to know what it means when it included this note "includes commemorative certificate"
and whether or not i had to apply for a marriage certificate and anything else i may need
    xx

I think you just need to give notice of marriage which is £33.50 each (i think) and then you pay the registra which Im not sure how much they are (£300 at a guess no idea)

i think that includes your certificate - I dont think you need to pay for anything else other than the venue itself.

If you are getting married in a hotel you have to make sure that that hotel is legally able to marry people. The registra should know where is and isnt legal.

So you will have to pay the registra and the Room in the hotel.

    does that make sense?

Do they? Depends where you book i suppose. Plus you could always just photocopy it if you have got to take it. Perhaps it is due to name changes and passports etc. x

it is fine - you can change all your details 2 months before the wedding so when you get married it is already sorted and your passport and names match your wedding certificate etc. Most people leave it till they come back from their honeymoon so it is less hassle! x

yeah but if you don't pay for your certificate in advance some councils will charge £7.00 per certificate if you get them after the date of your wedding. Might be best to call up your local authority and check what they mean by their statement on the website and to have a breakdown of costs so you know exactly what you are paying

I am going to do this when i book my appointment to give notice x

Yes i know lovelylainee but my h2b wanted an aprox price list of important stuff because he said we all need to start saving properly and set a realistic budget as our first budget was calculated at 30k so that is why i've been trying to get rough prices to know what to aim for :) x

its the council district where you currently live and pay council tax to - the place where you book the registrar should be the district the wedding venue is in. We are lucky that ours falls into the same council! x

I was going to say you can't give notice until a year to the date you are getting married and the prices to give notice and the registrar fees go up each year. If you want a realistic price take what ever it is now and then add 10% on for each new financial year. When you go to give notice if you want to give it on the year to the date make sure that you ring up weeks in advance as you can wait over a month to get an appointment. Also they only work part time days and usually the last appointment is about 3.30 so make sure you can both get time off work to go.

I booked the registrar today, in Dorset and was told that in 2013 when we get married the cost will be £520.50. That covers the service, giving notice of the marriage and the certificates. Seems a lot, but has to be done.

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)
