What do you do if you don't have a father
    - as in not one on you Birth certificate

What goes on the wedding certificate when it says Fathers name and profession?

Does the registrar cross out Father and write Mother instead?

I think you'd have to ask the registrar to be honest with you hun as to what they'll do. xxx

They leave the fathers name and occupation blank and just enter a line through the box. There is no provision in law for the mothers name to be entered. You can have stepfathers details entered if you want x

Let us know when you find out what the registrar says, my father is sadly passed (my brother is giving me away) and I don't have a stepfather, the box might look sad blank!

Lois if your father has passed away I believe the name still goes in followed by the words Deceased. I had to put this on my forms for the church.

Lois as the others have said, if your father has passed away, the name still goes on certificate followed by 'deceased'. My father sadly passed too, and when I got married before they put it on the marriage certificate that he's passed. xxx

As our wedding certificate was issued by the state of Nevada, there are no details of our parents on the certificate at all. I think that may have been on our license application, but it was so long ago now, I really couldn't be sure LOL!

    Thanks
    I'll tell The Man

He'll be upset that his mam can't go on it. But oh well

I agree Cat seems silly that you can't have mother down instead - what will people who only have 2 mums do in the future? or 2 dads - will they have to pick?

They used to put both mum and dad's names and occupations down, so I wonder why that changed? xxx

I had that problem, as my father died when i was young, as i am getting married in a church the vicar said that she was going to ask if i could get my mothers name and occupation, but then you should speak to the registrar as it most likely have to be your fathers name, and you might be able to leave it blank.

Kristina - as others as say it is still your father's name they just put deceased (same in church or civil)

Moran2b - did they ever do that?- I have some really old family ones (for family tree stuff and they only have father written and only have space for father

My fathers name was on my first wedding certificate although he was deceased.
My h2b didn't know his mums occupation when we applied for our wedding licence as she left him when he was 5 years old, we were contacted as to why he didn't know though, i guess it's unusual not to know the details of your mother rather than father.
