We are struggling to find a venue to hold our numbers so we're thinking maybe a marquee is the best option. Problem is I know nothing about them. Is anyone able to give me lots of info about them please. Are they expensive? Are they cold? X

I'd contact a supplier and have a look at them then ask all your questions I know they can put heaters in so wont be too cold, also some put down carpet floors which also makes it warmer, posted link on your wall

We're doing a marquee wedding. It just fits in my parents garden - it's quite a small one! Our company also does the catering and bar. And they do all the clearing away. They are probably the same price as a real building, if not more expensive.

Most places you will be able to get the whole lot from them, tables and chairs, heaters, lights, flooring etc. We nearly had one as a second room but would have cost about an extra £3-4K so decided against it.

We did look at them, but found them to be more expensive than other venues we were looking at. They do look stunning though! Xx
I looked at them and dismissed them as the hire alone was more than the full package where I am going. Depends where you're based though you may be able to bag a bargain

We can't find a venue local that will hold our numbers and one that we did find but didn't live was £10000 without dress or cake or anything :( so I'm hoping marquee be less x

Where abouts are you wanting your wedding? For a larger evening do have you thought about village halls/social clubs etc, as some of them have really nice rooms? Xx

A big field and a marquee then sounds a good choice.

Its our choice due to the nature of our family (lots of kids and kids at heart, so hiring bouncy castles and the like to keep them entertained) Are you having 200 for the service? Or just evening reception?

200 for just the evening the service will be about 60. We are thinking bouncy castle too x

I was well up for a marquee in a field but nearly fainted at the prices!!
You have to think about electrics, toilets, flooring, bar, staff, set up, clearing away... but even so £2-3k seems far too expensive!
I've got my venue for £280! Bargain!

I looked into marquee's too and they are really expensive plus like Sarah says you have to add on loads of other costs too :-( I quickly dived past that idea and got a great hotel package and lovely grounds x
CommentAuthorMrsC2bee
I really want hotel as its stress free ( in way of extras) and all in one place but can't find a nice one that's anywhere near our church :( x

Have you got your heart set on a church wedding? There are some fantastic package deals with hotels xx
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
Have you looked to see if there are any hotels nearby that offer marquee receptions? xxx

Just done a quick g00gle, and the average marquee hire cost £20-£30 per person before furniture, so that's 4-6k. If you need a seperate tent for caterers (if ou are having outside caterers) you are going to be looking at the top end of that.
Then you need to factor in catering, linen, cutlery, toilet hire, gas to run the lights and heat, decorations, flooring etc. plus disco lighting (if you are having a disco)', entertainment etc plus hire of the grounds, unless you know someone with a field you can borrow.
They do look stunning though xx

Yer got heart set on church coz same one my parents married in n I was christened in n so was my daughter. We might not be able to get church as my h2b is divorced but will see. If I can find a nice hotel I'll be chuffed but if not will have to result to marquee. Not really sure how to find more venue choices tried g00gle but no luck x

Hmm are you anywhere near stanstead park? I think that's in your neck of the woods...they do marquees there but I think also have room for two hundred.
If you are having only sixty for the day to, maybe you could out on coach hire for your day guests transport between the church and reception? That might give you an option of going a bit further afield xx
Also, try local wedding fairs, and go through a list of venues licensed to hold civil ceremonies on your local council website. I know you are getting married in a church, but most places licensed to hold a ceromony will be set up to hold receptions there too

Have you looked on local photographers websites? This is how I found an amazing venue for my friends wedding next year. Because it was new it wasn't publicised very well, but the photographer had all the details under the photos of a wedding he photographed there xxx

I was very lucky the venue we got married has a marquee attached to it for evening receptions, it only cost £650 and that included tables, chairs and covers, sashes, table cloths and a private bar and toilets. It was amazing on the evening as it had fairy lights on the ceiling and around the sides. Everyone invited was amazed. x
It's great to say i get married this year September 1st 2012

I know how you feel...we had kinda the opposite problem. We live near York, so have about fifty venues within walking distance of us...in the end, we went with the one I wanted originally, after touring hotels, country houses, golf clubs, medieval halls, guildhalls, racecourses and even a railway museum!!
The trouble is, they were nearly all stunning and lovely, and as there is so much competition, surprisingly reasonable. Hand on heart, I could have pictured my wedding day in just about all of them! I went with the first one because when we got engaged that was the first place I thought of...me and my friend used to walk past it everyday as kids and say 'ooh, wouldn't you want to get married there'. Also, when we went to have a look round the lady was so helpful and really enthusiastic about our wedding. Some places we looked into seemed like they couldn't care less, and to me it was important to have a wedding coordinator I felt I had or could build a bit of a rapport with,
You will find a venue that's right for you hun xx
And that sounds like a great deal cally - much better value than having to do it from scratch! Xx
