Hi everyone get married June 2013 and thinking of going Maldives in Nov 2013 for our honeymoon, the thing wants concerning me is the price for what we want you looking at £5000, than £1000 spends (taking that to be on safe side) than dog kennels £500 (no one can mind them) and new clothes so your looking at £7000 for 10 nights in maldives, were as we could go mexico for about £3000 and I know it will be alot more busier with things to do etc, who are been both anyone??

I personally cannot justify it and would prefer to have lots to do. My parents have been 6 times and my sister and her husband have been 4 and they love it. The last time my parents went they spent £7000 on the holiday alone plus spending money and for 6 out of 10 days it rained. Mum said they still had an amazing time and the rain brought lots of tropical fish to the shore line and at no point was it cold, but I just feel like, if I'm going to spend that much money I want to get more out of it. I love my h2b to absolute bits but can't imagine just spending 10 days with him and a beach and he's the same, we both like exploring and keeping active.

It's really up to you what you do hun, lots of people think of their honeymoon as being the only chance to see the Maldives and if it's somewhere you've always wanted to go then you should do it just in case you never get the opportunity again. My parents are panicking because global warming is killing the islands, they already have to add sand to the beaches to stop them sinking and in 30 years they might not be there at all. x

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

The prices I have seen for the Maldives are around 1,000-1,500 each on travelsupermarket, I wouldn't think you would need much spending money as there isn't a great deal there! I think if you have a good look around you will find a good deal hun x

you can get to the Maldives for less then 5K surely - i been there before cheaper. We paid just over 3K for both. This was Bandos (North Male Atoll) I would personally recommend as there really is no where else like it! xxx

Ooh clarebear if you're going for the scuba diving then definitely check out Vanuatu (in the south pacific like Fiji) - you can scuba dive an active underwater volcano! Apparently the marine life down there is amazing (can you tell I'd really like to go to Vanuatu lol!)
I keep seeing ads for Erakor Island resort which looks gorgeous Xx

Ours is 4300 inc all inclusive, flights, 9 nights on a beach deluxe villa - the resort has free scuba and snorkel with a PADI centre, house reef, manta ray/hammerhead feeding, 6 restaurants etc! Only extras will be for the optional overnight on a couple exclusive island we're going to do and things like spa treatments etc :-) - our resot did a promo where if you stayed for more than a week you got upgraded to the next villa level up - I wanted an ocean villa at first but the cost is too high, considering you're on a small island anyway and surrounded by the sea we didn't think it was worth the extra money for the whole trip...

we were there for almost 3 weeks! on the island all the water sports were free.....the only thing youneeded to pay extra for was if you wanted to proper scuba dive and do the padi.

They also say not to go in November time and the best time to go is December as we are looking at it for September or october time.
Mexico is gorgeous we was feeding the fish bananas they were loving it but I would say if you go to Mexico go after October, also you can do it a lot cheaper than £3k as I went with my bil and sil and it came to just under £4k.

clarebear1 which resort did you want to go to? me and my h2b went in october for less than that and stayed in a 5* resort and spa. I personally wouldnt miss the chance to go for the world, when i was there it was like paradise. Absolutely recommend the Maldives, the excursions are amazing and you will take away memories that would last a lifetime. I would shop around for a better deal, but if you have the funds to go then id say go, you wouldnt regret it. x

i did snorkelling excursions, we went snorkelling with Whale Sharks, then we did the Manta Ray and Sea Turtle excursion which was amazing! But to be honest our house reef was full of beautiful fish, reef sharks, little rays even dolphins out there. You can hire all the snorkel equipment for a week and it was about $40. The excursions were about $25-34 each x

    - sunset fishing $45 pp
    - dolphin watching $40 - $50 pp
    - Deep sea diving $80 - $100 pp
    - sunset ruise $40 pp

you can def get to the maldives for less than that!! if that is where you want to go and can afford it then go for it but it is a lot of money for a honeymoon but then you only have one honeymoon x

I think if you can afford it then go. My husband and I aren't beach types, we hate hot weather, but I went back and forth over whether or not we should have the honeymoon we wanted in Sweden, which is also a very expensive destination for what you get. In the end he left the decision to me and I decided to borrow the money and go for it. People had suggested that we save and go a few years after the wedding, but I wanted our "real" honeymoon to be the dream, a holiday of a lifetime that we will always remember. Our honeymoon is even more unreasonably priced than the Maldives, we spent £3600 for a week, and we will be paying for it for at least two years to come, but so what... we've been together four years and this is the first time we've had a holiday, and the memories will last for a lifetime.

I think you should make your decision on whether you would prefer the Maldives or Mexico. If you want the activities in Mexico then that is fine, but if you secretly want to do the Maldives and you choose Mexico just because it's cheaper then you will always remember that had to compromise on your honeymoon. If you HAVE to compromise because you don't have the money then fair enough, but if you can afford to have the dream then you should.

    We're leaving a week tomorrow! Can't wait!
