Is it worth it? We want a cake with cow print over and my h2b is coeliac, so we're worried it's going to get expensive. Neither of us like fruit cake, and I'm well practised in making gluten free cakes. I'm just wondering if it'll be too much stress. Opinions?x

Loads of people on here are making their own cake, me included. I'm not quite sure how or what I'm going to do yet.

If I could bake and had the patience I would make my own but I'd get stressed and end up throwing it across the room lol

I think it's a great idea for other people, I've asked my venue to arrange mine so that I dont have to set mine up on the morning, anything for less hassle! Still get to do the cake tasting thing though :) x
I meant to add that its a great idea in your case though xx

I had to google cow print cakes after I read this lol it sounds amazing!
If you are really experienced at making cakes then I say go for it, I have found a picture of one that looks pretty simple and still looks great!

I'd go for it, then you know exactly what's in it! If you have gluten free flour etc I'd think you'd be fine to bake it, or you can bake the sponges the week before your wedding and get some ready to roll icing in white then paint the black spots on. or you could be really free hand and roll some black icing really thin and make the spots to put on! As long as the design is pretty simple (and you would want to stay that way as the b/w will be fancy enough) then I'd do it yourself, or even bake the cakes yourself and pass them to a friend/family member to ice/decorate if they're good at it so you don't have any last minute panic attacks! :-)

The second picture is the one we found and have fallen in love with it! What started out as a jokey idea got serious when we saw that! I have been thinking about painting the icing. I just don't know if it'll be too stressful! It'll keep costs down I guess. Too many cow ideas floating around at the moment. We're having black and white cows walking around our reception venue!

Love the design! Your other option is to ice a 'show cake' based on polystyrene bases which can be done way in advance and then bake a tray bake cake which is sliced up behind the scenes and given to guests. That way you could have as fresh a cake as possible without the hassle of decorating it in the week before the wedding?

im having the problem of glten free too for my grandad i want him to have a piece of the actual wedding cake not a little piece of something else!! if i could make it it would be brilliant but i struggle with just regular cakes so hmmm!!
i say if you can do it then go for it and as someone suggested freeze it until the day before the wedding maybe then you know it fine and decorate it then??
let us know what you decide though xx

im making and decorating 100 cupcakes for our wedding. I think if you have a go at a practice one now to see how difficult it is to make and decorate and how long it takes and then see if it is something you are happy to do. sometimes paying out for someone else to do it is better then all the last minute stress before your big day. xx

I'm making the wedding favours as cup cake pops decorated with cow print, and I know I can do those, so I can practice the cow icing on them first.
Mumbles is a great place. We're having our wedding on the Gower :D x

I make cakes all the time, love doing it. Only used the icing on them 2 times now and they where good :) just worry about messing the cake up, and being for the wedding it would be awful.
