When my H2B & I were working out our wedding budget we agreed that we would get the main things paid off asap before booking any of the smaller, non essential things. That's gone to plan except one little slip up at a wedding fair, where I booked a photobooth!! I would be panicking if we had only paid deposits & had to come up with thousands closer to the day & I know we would let life get in the way of saving. Like last month our washing machine broke & our car had its mot, if we had our wedding funds in a bank we would have used them, but because they had been sent by bacs to our venue we managed to budget for it. Is anyone else aiming to pay things off quick rather than having hundreds of deposits everywhere? Is there any reason we shouldn't be paying things off early?? We have insurance incase anything happens.

I'm doing the same as you hun we will have everything paid off big and small in 7 months we want it sorted then if we have forgot something or if something happens we can find the money for it with out having to compromise on the wedding x

what we have done is set aside a certain amount each pay day, then we have allocated that money to the main things such as licenses, ceremony venue fee, certificate, etc
then have been buying the small things as we go such as guest books, post box items, photo frames, flowers (fake from 99p shops), cufflinks, ties, garter, etc. The things that dont really cost much that we can add to the weekly shop or buy instead of a takeaway etc.
our honeymoon is 4 pay days after our wedding, however we have budgeted to have everything paid off 4 pay days before our wedding which includes spending money set aside also. This gives us a £640 buffer between the pay day everything is due to be paid off and the pay day before our honeymoon.
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!

That's exactly what we did tried to get everything out of the way as soon as possible. Thankfully we are good savers and were able to use some of the savings that we had. Everything was paid on credit card and then the credit card paid off as it was more secure in case of any companies going bust! Only thing we had left to pay was the photographer and he wanted payment on the day.
It's a nice feeling to have knowing that it's sorted and definately makes you stress less!

Glad to hear a few other brides are doing this, when I rang to put the deposit on our cars they only wanted £50 but we put down £250 & said that the remaining balance will be paid with a few months. The owner was shocked & said he wished more brides were as organised as me, so that he didn't have to chase up payments. But from how taken aback he was it made me think that we are the only people paying in advance.
I can imagine it must be a pain if you are the supplier having to chase payments up!
To be honest, I just liked seeing big ticks and smiley faces on my list knowing that it was one last thing to worry about!

Are venue was the same when we paid the deposit we paid extra and said could we set up a direct debit to pay the remaining balance within 6 months she was gobsmacked saying we had until 8 weeks before are wedding to pay and could pay it then. Hell no I don't want £1400 liguring over my head as I'm paying for 75% of the wedding I want it paid asap x

I just saved and ensured that we had the money in the bank for when the balances were due. Keep cash in the bank and earn interest on it xx

I'm the same as InDreamLand, we have it all in a savings account earning us interest (will have over £100 in interest before we have to start taking money out of it) we also have a second current account we're having money put into each month which I'm using to pay deposits and if it builds up and we don't need to pay anything I'm then transferring that money over to the big interest one.

We are the same as in dreamland and Donna! Paying some stuff by monthly dd, some stuff when we get paid but the majority is going in the savings and warning some extra money :-) x

I like to get things paid off unlike H2B who prefers money to be making interest for as long as poss. When we saw the cake lady I insisted we paid her in full. We have only paid deposit on car and photos and have to pay off 2 weeks before. Most other things I am paying as I go along- I have paid my half of the honeymoon- he is yet to pay a penny to his half- he is waiting until deadline day!

Yeah me too; I've worked out the budget e.t.c and want to pay stuff off as soon as possible. We are hoping to pay off a big chuck of our venue in August when h2b gets his bonus.
The photographer is due £50 on the 1st of April and 1st of May but I might see if I can pay anymore off. Ideally we would like everything paid off 4 or so months before the day so any money saved after then can go towards our honeymoon or any little extras we didn't think of :)

Im paying deposits and have a isa which can have money taken out max of 4 times a year without cost , so it stops me taking stuff out of it for no reason with a standing order putting money into it everyweek, think we will end up paying deposits for everything apart from the band as OH parents said they will pay for it and will be easier to give them the contract signed and ask them to send it back with the deposit rather than trying to get the money back from them. and then use the money from my mum to pay for end amounts and left over from remainder that we will have saved.

All our spare cash is going into various accounts we have a set amount in a high interest savings account which comes to an end next Feb We cant get to this unless we forfeit the interest and OH is not going to do that, He would rather we earn interest than paying someone off early we have a spreadsheet of how much everything is costing and how much we have paid deposit wise so we know how much needs to be paid about a month before the wedding. Im hoping to pay off my wedding dress by Christmas though off my own spare cash.

My HTB is soooo organised!
He wouldn't let me book anything for over a year until we had money saved! He prefers to pay for as many things outright as possible- except the venue! Sensible I know but soooooooooooooooooooooo frustrating sometimes!! X
CommentAuthorbeximo86
we have online saving accounts which are set up with the name of what it will be used to pay for. we were going to pay things off as we went along but H2B would rather pay for it in one lump sum so we dont have a million receipts lying around the house - think thats because he is constantly misplacing paperwork though! It is nice to see the amounts in the bank though, makes us feel a bit more confident when we come to saving for a mortgage! x

We have been putting X amount into a savings account every month and then with 5 months to go we picked items such as flowers and paid one off in full each month. We are just in the process of paying the final venue bill and then we have everything paid off with 6 weeks to go. Very organised but it means there is no stress.
All I would say is that you put a certain amount of trust in the supplier by paying them off very early, you have to be 100% sure they will turn up ! (a current worry of mine!). So I made sure I paid them off in full after a second 'catch up' meeting to solidify arrangements.

we're just paying for things as and when we have the money

We set up a direct debit fo the big things and paid them off monthly.felt much more manageable. Now with 2.5weeks to go all that is left to pay is the hairdresser, the DJ and the photographers last bit :) not feeling stressed at all! X
