Hey everyone, i have been thinking bout confetti as im wanting butterfly shapes. Can you use any kind of card/paper to make it or does it have to be biodegradable? xx

usually venues/churches say they must be biodegradeable these days.

Generally paper is biodegradable, it's just the rate at which is degrades that varies, the execptions being things like plastic coated paper, it's things like metalic confetti they're warning against

I saw somewhere (probably in one of the thousands of magazines I have!) that one way to make your own confetti is to save and dry out all the petals from the flowers you get during your engagement and use them. Free and easy to do, right?

My question is about the colours. My theme is black and white. Should I stick to the colour of the bridesmaids' bouquets only (either cream or pink), or start the ball rolling with the red roses I got for Valentine's day and stick to red, or have multi-coloured confetti as an injection if colour to my otherwise monochrome day?

    All advice and opinions welcome.

You can buy them in hobbycraft! Or, get some boxes, decorate them, turn them upside down and just stick holes big enough to hold the cones in. I find the boxes that printed paper come in are the perfect size

I brought 100 from hobbycraft when they were on offer and got home that afternoon to find that my h2b had done exactly the same when he was out! So instead of taking them back for a refund I thought I'd make use of them

Apparently, you simply air dry them on paper for a few days (you could do it in the airing cupboard I think) and then once dry they'll keep in a dry box.

I like the idea of the confetti being made from all the flowers H2B buys for me over the next year. And free for me! Lol!

And why pay for ready-made confetti when you will literally throw it away?! Lol!

Tinsel, I'm not sure how true this is but apparantly if you freeze them once they have dried out it stops them breaking and the colour changing completely.. I'll see if I can find a website that I read it on

Ok. I totally got it wrong.. you have to microwave them

Remove the petals from your rose and place as many as you can, without them touching one another, on a piece of kitchen roll on a plate.
Put the plate in the microwave for 1 minute on high.
Take the plate out of the microwave and turn each petal over.
Pop back in the microwave for another minute on high, keeping an eye on them. If they start to brown, take them out.
Put them on a baking tray lined with kitchen roll and spread out to cool.
Repeat the above steps for the rest of your petals.
    Throw them.

That last bit makes me giggle.. just throw them lol

just make sure you keep a close eye on them when they're in the microwave. I've used this method to dry sage leaves and burnt the first lot because i didnt realise how quickly it dried out, the smaller the leaves/petals the less time they need

Trouble with the bath confetti is that it might stain your dress if it decides to spot with rain etc. I'm being a cheap skate and getting the guests to bring their own confetti.
