well i had my make up and hair trial yesterday hair was perfect just how i imagines it but my make up was awful the first time she finished i could of cried, the airbrushing foundation looked awful patchy and didnt cover anything and way too much blusher but after that she put a few more layers of the foundation on and it did look better but was losing daylight so was hard to tell after she left i took photos outside and it looked awful pale and just not good then a few hours later when i had photos for my hair my make up looked shiny and just terrible no one noticed id had my make up done. it was nothing special and looked terrible only a couple of hours later i could cry my h2b said i do it better myself but dont think i want to do it myself but running out of time and this has put me off a bit using make up artist xx

I'm doing mines myself.
I have been going to various make up counters and asking for make overs and lessons so I can see how to create the look I want. - You might also be a bit sneaky and book a makeover for the morning of your wedding?? It's usually free and they usually do a really good job!
I got this done yesterday in dhams and I really liked how it turned out.
My BF had a professional woman do our make up wouldn't recoomend her!! I was caked in make up and i explained to her I don't wear make up regular so pls keep it to a minimum, caked in foundation must of had 3 pots of mac make up on my cheeks! i then suffered for 2months after with very very severe acne which ended up in a trip to the doctors! my friends mum looked like she had seen a ghost with her make up. I know when it comes to my big day i'll put my faith in some1 i know very well and not some arty farty person. becoz ur friends know u best and know what suits you then dictate how much or little. I don't want a full face of make up on my big day as it isn't me so y be someone im not on the biggest most special day of my life!

I'm just going to practice my own make up a few weeks before my wedding and do it myself, that way I will have it the way I want it. I will have my hair done at the hairdresser though.

I have heard if you book a trial with mac you get a wee goody bag, not sure how accurate that is though.....Do you have a house of fraser near you?

I'd definitely use a primer, I like the Benefit one called that gal, and I also use a foundation stick by them called play stick which has a powder effect, or a tinted moisturiser called you rebel for a lighter touch... all the products are about 20-25 each though but last ages :-)
CommentAuthorNavyBaby
My cousin did her own make up as she didnt want it caked on - her friend who is a make up artist did her eyes and thats it. She had false lashes so it was best that someone professional did them!! I'd definitely recommend doing your own foundation and base coats and going to Debanmmmms or B00ts etc is a really good idea. If you're saving yourself money but not having a make up artist, surely you could use that money and splash out on some nice make up?? Fingers crossed it works out for you.xxxx

Hey babee! Awwww bless your little heart.
Have you tried Bareminerals? They are fantastic!! My sister in law used their starter pack for her wedding day and had a fantastic result.

I have to agree it doesn't look like you're even wearing make up! Can imagine that's very disappointing as you'd expect much more from air brushing!
There's probably no harm in trying a different make up artist but if you're confident in your own skills then you'll probably be happier doing it yourself as long as you have time to do it!

I have to admit, the make up artist cost puts me off and makes me want to do it myself. But if I leave my BM's to do their own, one will cake herself in it and go OTT, and the other wont wear any! So I was looking at some places that do make up parties, sort of having that as a hen night starter and we all learn to do our make up ready for the big day! Think it was something like £25 each and a goodie bag.

I am wearing my usual night out makeup. I want to look like me basically. I don't ever wear a lot anyway, so it'll just be minimal and if people don't like it, then they have a problem with my face generally, which I really can't help :0) I didn't look at that photo and think "She's shiny". Your eyes look beautiful. You know what I would do? Hold an impromptu book of face event and invite my friends and their make up and ask for tips - esp about foundation. You will have an evening to play around and work it out without it being one "professional's" opinion.

I think it looks very natural, which is what you want on your wedding day and I didn't think you looked shiny either.
Got married 11/11/11.
CommentAuthorMrsowen2b
i wouldnt say its shiny every where, theres places like your forehead that look slightly shiny but nothing to major but if i felt how you do i would be the same as you are. the reason they put loads on is because they know your going to be having photo's taken all day and the flash can make you really white.

CommentAuthorFutureMrsPite
if u want my honest opinion here it is, i do think u look a bit shiny and pale and i agree it doesnt look like u have make up on, i wouldnt be happy myself paying someone to look like that as i could achieve it myself! ur hair looks lovely though!
i have problem skin which is prone to spots and blotchy and dry and oily all at the same time! when i have make up on i tend to start looking shiny after an hour i think my skin produces the oil to get the make up off!! lol im thinking about prepping my skin eg cleanse tone and moisturise a lot just b4 as i dont do this now, just a flannel and soap does me lol im hoping doing this and using a scrub once or twice a week will do my skin wonders and be a great base for makeup whatever i use.
my friend had patchy make up but it didnt show on her wedding photos so i wouldnt worry too much, the things ive learnt from seeing 2 weddings is the eyes should look a bit overdone in person for them 2 be visible in photos, my sis thought her lashes looked too much but we all reassured her and her eyes look lovely in the pics. also ur skin has to look good in daylight, then anywhere else should look good too. a good make up artist should know what looks best in pictures and indoors and outdoors, seems to me ur makeup artist might only be good at doing makeup for ppl indoors like in a studio with lights on them or something.
whatever u decide to do good luck and it may even be better doing r own as u know ur own face and what looks good and the look u want, im still deciding this myself! sure u will look great on the day x

thanks ladies for all your advice, im still unsure what to do as im running out of time and money, and dont know if i could trust anothe rmake up artist i know they will be good ones about but its finding one now, so i may just do it myself but worried about doing it incase it goes wrong on the day, i always wear make up and the way she did it looks nothing like i have my make up i dont want it too over the top but noticeable which like others have said ive paid so far £75 for that look and its just not worth it as, my h2b said my make up looked better today and that was me doing it five mins for the school run!! My moh has said we will fet together with a girlie friend get all our make up together to see what we can do and also one of my friends is training to be a make up artist and i got told today by my moh she will be doing my make up for my hen night so ill see how that goes and maybe use her! i was thrilled to bits with my hair and that was just a loose mock up it will be neater on the day, ill put a few more pics of my hair on thanks ladies xxx

maria, ur face looks like a porcelin (sp) doll! shiny and pale. not what u need. if u need a foundation that covers well, i personally recommend seeing someone at a MAC counter. I tried after my MOH suggested as I have bad skin cos it oily but with psoriasis. annoying that normally a foundation doesnt work.
not only does MAC work, but my skin doesnt feel clogged, and it doesnt block my pores. so i dont end up with bad acne after wearing it.
ur eyes do look nice, but not as good as when u did them urself.
see someone at a MAC counter and they can give u some guidance about the make-up xxx

my local debenhams has just set up a Bareminerals counter. With the ladies there showing you how to put it on. I would go there, get them to do you, then get a starter pack off them. Along with your usual make-up you would be able to create a complete look.

Your own make up looks much better! I use the B0dy Sh0p "Virgin Minerals" foundation - it looks like a compacted cream but when you put it on with the brush it feels just like a powder. Blends so nicely and doesn't clog up your skin. I have oily skin and by the evening I'm still nice & shine free :) Try getting one of the free makeovers there? Xx

I have not had a make-up trial yet, but that is the thing I am worried about; spending money on a trial and then not liking what they have done. I think I am having a separate make-up artist and hairdresser, because they are usually only trained in one subject. Your make-up that you did by yourself looks really nice. x

I am agreeing with most of the ladies on here - your night out make up looks great and your eyes are beautiful - i would stick with what you know best but maybe just put a tad more on for the photo's. I will be doing my own make up using rim mel primer, (nothing special but does the job very well) and l' oreal Matte souffle foundation, it goes on flawlessly every time and gives a silky smooth dewy look to your skin, not dull or shiny at all :D xx

Your own make-up looks loads better than by the make-up artist and I dont think it looks like you have any on at all.
I use No7 makeup as I dont like too much make-up on as I dont like to feel it all caked on and blocking my pores and they do one that adapts to the tones of the skin called Intelligent Colour for £15.50. They also do a shine free make-up base for £11 if you usually have shiny skin and you can go into any store with a No7 counter and ask the consultant for a make-over just like any of the more expensive brands in store.
Someone else on here said about Clarins Fix' Make-Up which is liek hairspray but for make-up if you were worried about it coming off. Hope you get it all sorted hun xx
