Just seen an article from the Mail on Sunday dated 14th August 2011, if you have bought Jimmy Choos for your wedding , you may need to get them re-soled before you wear them, to cut a long story short, basically the Mail on Sunday gave a model three pairs of shoes to road test them, one of them was a pair of patent beige Jimmy Choos that cost £450, she noticed that the sole was very thin but didnt think they would need to be re-soled. Once she had put them on she walked 200 yards from the mail on sunday offices to high street Kensington Underground station In West London and caught a tube to Hampstead where she lived. Then walked to Tesco, spent 35 mins browsing the aisles then walked 400 yards home. Next four hours were spent at home doing odd jobs preparing dinner. Then she walked to her local 300 yards away to meet a friend then back home again, she said it wasnt a gruelling day for her feet but when she took off the shoes that night she was surprised and the soles were badly worn especially at the front. There was a crack as well as two little tears on the heel, she says if she had worn them for a week they would have been wrecked. It turns out that not all shop assistants will tell you they need to be re-soled before wearing them, looks like they are what they call catwalk shoes, bit of a rip off when you pay a decent amount of money for a pair of shoes the last thing you want to do have to do is get them re-soled before walking out in them, most of them have very elegant soles, but looks like elegant is not aways good.

This is shocking :o At that price I would want tever lasting soles!
CommentAuthorSimmo
Ye gads, that's terrible!!!
Never much fancied Jimmy's, even less so now!

Sure is Shocking Roxy, just been reading further down the article and a woman on there says she bought a silver strappy sandals for £350 for her wedding , when she took them off early hours of the day after her wedding, the shoes were wrecked - the peep toe had stretched and the soles were destroyed, she said it looked like she had been mountain-climbing in them!. That is terrible.
CommentAuthorRockabilly chick
wow, not even spending that much on my dress, havent thought about shoes yet lol. Mine will most probably be from a cheap high street store :-) cant see em under my dress anyways!
If I had have spent £350 for one day and they were runied I would be sending them back to Mr Jimmy himself and asking for a refund. I haven't got my shoes yet, but I would love the blue monolos that carrie gets married in sex and the city, the first film. I love those and as Petra says you can't see them so people won't be shocked by the blue until I show them off!
CommentAuthorClairebear67
Simmo - I have never fancied them much myself, glad I dont have any yikes!
Petra - I know what you mean about not spending much on my shoes, I had bought mine then found a little while ago they are too big for me So now selling them on bay of e, but H2b has bought me a gorgeous pair from the bay of e also that have an ankle strap so they fit much better phew!! a lot of money to pay for shoes, Jimmy Choo should make lasting soles, seems you are only paying for the name, Good name should mean good quality!
CommentAuthorClairebear67
Roxy - I couldnt agree with you more. I love Carries shoes, having a different colour under your dress is a nice surprise for everyone I think. love it. : )
CommentAuthorKylee27
I wanted Jimmy Choos (really just for the name i suppose!) but have gone with Kurt Geigers. Fell in love with them and won the off the bay never worn for £40 when in the shops £120 so was chuffed. These won't need re-soling.
Can't wait to be married!

Nice one Kylee good for you, i love Kurt Giegers they have good solid heels usually, have you got any piccys ? :)
CommentAuthorKaz
My H2B is a cobbler and says that Jimmy Choos are just made for sitting in, not walking! The heels are not strong enough and he's had tons of people in the shop where their heels have snapped and they always go through the soles really quickly, he refuses to do them now!

I dont blame him Kaz, what a big nuisance, a total cheek as far as Jimmy Choo are concerned - do they think that people are going to pay that much money for a pair of shoes just to sit in them!! I dont think so.
CommentAuthorKaz
Well unless you have tons of money to spend on replacement heels you've no hope, he says the heels are so tiny for example think of a girl about size 10 walking in them, it'd be the same pressure as an elephant standing on an egg!

CommentAuthorClairebear67
Definately not worth the hassle, They balance well then lol .... not snap more chance.
CommentAuthorKaz
I've never bothered with stilletto's anyway, I'm 5 ft 10 and H2B is about 1 inch taller!

CommentAuthorClairebear67
Lucky you Kaz im a major short @rse at 5ft so heels are part of my life lol
CommentAuthorKaz
lol, not so good as I rarely get to wear heels and it looks like my wedding shoes will be pumps! xx

No offence ladies but i aint surprised about jimmy choos, when you think of the people that are his target customers. They aint going to people walking about in them, its going to be socialites going to partys or people that dont have to do very much walking excpet from taxi to the door of were their going.
I love jimmy choos but wouldnt pay the money for them because they arent going out shoes if you have to walk.

i have a black pair of Jimmy Choos worn them around 4 times and never had to resole them they are a bit worn but then the sole is made of suade. Never had any probs with the heel so i must be one of the lucky ones xxx
CommentAuthorbarbie86
JCs have soft leather soles; these soles will look very dirty after one wear, but should not wear out. I have 3 pairs of JCs, as well as 4 pairs of Ginas (which, like most deisgner shoes, have the same soft leather sole); I have worn some of the pairs dozens of times, inc out in the rain; they are fine, and have not needed re-soling. Yes, the soles don't look pretty anymore, but they serve their purpose. You can get plastic soles put over them; I've never needed to.
My JCs and Ginas are by far the best quality and most comfortable shoes I own, and the soles have never been an issue. Their 'day wear' styles, such as flats and boots, have hard or rubber soles, as they are designed for every day wear. But for evening shoes, there's not really any need for a rubber sole, as typically you'll be wearing them indoors, or for short walks between places (that said, I've tramped around the streets of Cuba and Mexico in my shoes lol and they've survived)

Ooh sounds lovely, no wonder you were sold on that one Nicole : ) lol
Key and Barbie, I just its just luck of the draw, always going to be good and bad experiences especially with shoes.

That's disgusting! How can they justify charging that much money for tat?!! Incredible how much some people will pay just because it's a designer, even if the quality is poor!

I just don't understand it lol, but then I'm not a shoe person! I'd never pay that much for a pair of shoes! I agree they look very nice, but I don't think they are worth as much as are charged for them. Sorry - no offence meant, I've just never been someone whos spends much on clothes/shoes/handbags lol - obviously not a very girly girl! :) x

I've never come across a forum so deeply against anything expensive! Gees!
I have Choos, Louboutins and a few other luxe shoes with soft leather soles. They aren't designed for long walks but they seem to be standing up well to being worn. They're no worse for wearing out than cheap shoes and mostly a lot more comfortable (as well as being absolutely stunning).
CommentAuthornicole85
Special sundae this forum isnt against everything expensive! If you read my posts i said that i love all shoes from designer to good old pradamark. This was just a heads up on an article that was wrote about jimmy choos

SpecialSundae we all know how much you love your expensive things. The forum isn't anti-expensive, it's about getting the best you can for your money, whether that be £10 or £1000 - we're all just looking out for each other and giving each other advice hun
CommentAuthorSpecialSundae
I know that the original post was about an article and just a warning, but the posts that followed are back to the rants against anything expensive that are so typical of this forum.
CommentAuthorClairebear67
I never had any intention for it to become a slag off about expensive stuff, if the mods feel it has turned that way then maybe they should close it.
CommentAuthorKayteeG
Can't speak for anyone else, but my 'rant' was just stating that personally, for that kind of money, I would expect a pair of shoes to last - that's not being anti-expensive - that's being realistic
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I have Jimmy Choo's and a "normal" pair of cheap wedding shoes for my wedding. I will be wearing the JC's through out the day and wedding breakfast and changing into my "normal" pair in the evening and the only reason I'm changing is because I don't want to ruin the JCs and I just know someone will stand on them or I'd drip chocolate on them. They are comfier than the other shoes and much better quality. I've never had a problem with JCs and I read the article and I think she did do quite a bit of walking in them and everyone knows JC's aren't made to be spent walking in all day. To me, they are perfect wedding shoes
All of my dreams come true the day I married you, Mr Walker

I agree with SS, and find it telling that those slating them would never spend that much on shoes.
I have high street shoes, I have mid-range designer shoes, and I have high-end designer shoes. My Choos and Ginas have lasted longer than any other shoes, they are classic styles that will never date, they are well-made and super comfy. They were well worth every penny. As I said I've worn them out and about, on the street, and in rain; I've had no issues at all with wear and tear, they're still in excellent condition. To criticise them for having leather soles is stupid IMO; all high-end designer shoes have the same soles, even mid-range ones like Kurt Geiger and LK Bennett do, and it really isn't an issue.
If you can't afford them, or wouldn't pay more than £50 for shoes then that's fine; but please don't slate things if you don't know what you're talking about or say they're a rip-off. I'm not rich, but I'd sooner spend £300 on shoes that will last and won't date and are comfy, than £30 on cheaper ones that will date quickly and rub.
CommentAuthornicole85
Special Sundae i have never once ranted about expensive stuff. I have got expensive taste in shoes, clothes & bags but i also like "normal" things aswell.

I've never said that I don't like "normal" things. It's just depressing to come back to give the forum another go and find a thread slating luxe shoes.
CommentAuthorbarbie86
Kaytee: I have a 10 year old pair of JCs, and another pair that's only 3 years old but that I've worn at least 50 times they're so comfy and versatile. Likewise I have several pairs of Ginas I've worn dozens of times. They do last, much much better than any high street shoes in my experience. Unles you have owned a pair, you can't really comment on if they last.
CommentAuthornicole85
Yet again people seem to be getting annoyed because other people have opinons about things!!!!
Obviously people dont read all the posts because no-one as ranted about things being expensive, people have just said that they wouldnt pay that kind of money for shoes. That is their opinion though.
