Exactly as the title. I have got dressing gowns for getting ready and photos on the morning of the wedding. What is the term most commonly used?? Or is it personal choice??
Thanks girls xxx

I think it's personal choice.. I think chief bridesmaid may be american as I'd onlyever heard it on american shows until I came on here.. I'm not having any bridesmaids, only a maid of honour xxx

I am having a maid of honour, it depends what do you prefer?

I thought it had to do with the marriage status of the bridesmaid. I think traditionally if the bridesmaid is married she should be a maid of honour and if she's not married she should be chief bridesmaid.
I could be wrong though, not 100% sure

Maid of honour is unmarried. Matron of honour is married.
Mine is a maid of honour, just because thats what she calls herself :)

Mine is married but don't think she'd like being called a matron, sounds like miss trunchbull from Matilda lol

It's personal choice - maid of honor originally referred to a female attendant to the queen, perhaps that's why the chief bridesmaid designation came about. who knows???

My sister refers to herself as my chief bridesmaid, I thought maid of honour was an American thing but also that's what you call her if she's married, but my sister is married but Still calls herself CBM xx

I thought if she was married she was a maid of honour if not then a chief bridesmaid? We are going with chief bridesmaid - personal opinion that maid of honour sounds a bit old fashioned..x

I'm just having them all as bridesmaids I haven't given any of them jobs other than 'look pretty' and as they're all family it was easiest to make them equal x

I personally came to the understanding that a maid of honour was married and a chief bridesmaid was not. I've chosen to go by this and have a chief bridesmaid. It's probably just personal choice though :) x
Less then a year till i marry my wonderful man

hate to be pedantic but maid strictly refers to an unmarried girl or woman especially when young : virgin. Matron refers to a married woman.
