H2b and I sat down the other day and looked at the guest list and after umming and ahhing we decided we are only inviting immediate familys children and my best mates daughter who's flowergirl. So that cut down the wedding by about 30 kids! Everyone has been fine about it apart from my aunt who I see once a year at Christmas. First she moaned because our venue is a 40 minute drive from her house, so I pointed out we have friends flying in from the states and they don't moan about it beinng too far! Then when I mentioned only kids of immediate family she said 'Oh well I'm immediate family so that's fine!'

I said actually we mean our children and h2b's neices and nephews only. Should point out she will have a 12 year old, 4 year old and 1 year old. Well she threw a massive fit about how I couldn't expect her to spend all day away from her kids (ceremony is 4pm!) and then told me I'd have to pay for her babysitter!?
So I told her point blank that if my wedding was such an inconveince, then not to worry about it as she wouldn't be invited at all!

    I hate family!!!

Yeh definitely keep your foot down on your rule.... 4pm is not ALL DAY as she states, she's just trying to make you feel guilty but seriously don't, the money itself can definitely be used elsewhere, (children's meals cost a bomb at weddings) I myself am only having my 3 there, not even nieces and nephews... I only have one niece but this could go up to maybe 5 before I get married since none of h2b's siblings have children yet so this is why we've set this rule x

well done you for standing your ground. I'm sure she won't be missed if she doesnt turn up!

As a mother, i cant understand why other mothers arent greatful for the chnce to have a night off. Im positively brimming with excitement about next half term as I'll be child free for a whole week lol. If someone said to me 'no kids' Id be rejoicing.

We have a no children rule, so does my sister and so did my friend, My H2b and I believe that if we mean anything to people with children, they will be there. Most of my friends who have children have been more than fine with it, some family memebers have/will kick up a fuss but tbh, its our wedding and thats our decision.

Stick to your guns, and like other have said, she'll either come round or not, and if she doesn't... not worth the worry.

    xx

i really wouldn't see the problem, i don't have children, however if i did i would jump at the chance of having a night child free to be able to enjoy some adult company and let my hair down.
Good for you for standing your ground too, don't let her bully you into changing your mind. Remember it is your day and your rules. They like it or lump it.

What makes me laugh is that every time I read one of these stories, the person moaning acts like its the first wedding in history that hasn't allowed kids but I can't actually remember the last wedding I went to where there were kids invited (except the ones in the bridal party) ...

Well done for standing up for your decisions. She'll get over it, 4pm allows her to spend a large part of the day with her children anyways.

we are only having our two and my BMs son, this is only because we are only having about 27 people -
    B & G + kids (pageboys)
    11 family
1 family plus one - h2b's brothers girl
    2 BM's + 1 child
    7 friends
1 friend plus one - my bestmates girl (they live in germany he wont know anyone other than me & has only met h2b once)

the families are older children (youngest will be 15), the friends mostly dont have children except one couple who have kids but wont have anywhere for the kids to stay in the area whilst they at our reception so would either have to leave early or not attend at all. so the kids are staying at their grandmas when the time comes apparently. so would just be our boys and BM's son who calls me auntie anyway & hes 2wks older than our eldest. so youngest child there is our own.

Helen my daughter is invited to 3 of the 5 weddings this year, shes coming to one, Id rather be able to let my hair down. You take the kids and it just becomes about them, making sure they are ok/behaving/not hassling other guests. Only reason shes coming to that one is becasue its a family shindig and I cant get away with not taking her lol

She's having a massive go at everyone who will listen now because h2b mentioned our friends from the states are bringing their two kids! They are flying thousands of miles to be at our wedding and spending 2 grand + to be there but now Aunt thinks I should tell her to leave her 6 and 9 year old at the hotel!?

    All getting very very childish!

bloody hell, its not even remotely comparable and I wouldn't worry what she's sayign to peole hun, there's no one with any right mind out there that wouldnt think shes being unreasonable.

Im pretty sure it would be a social services issue leaving a 6 and 9 year old unattended all day as well lol
