Help girls I really don't know what to do and really don't think i'm over reacting. Been waiting to hear back from our venue, they were supposed to have rung us last week to sort out a meeting with the chef. Hadn't heard anything so rang again this morning, got this old man on the phone that turned out to be the night porter. He said the receptionist wasnt there as she had rung in sick, he then proceeded to tell me how she was probably hung over. He didn't have a clue as to when the wedding co-ordinator/manager would be in so i had to ring back this afternoon. When i did finally get to speak to her she couldn't remember speaking to me the other week and said she'd been off sick all last week. Wasn't at all apologetic and seemed to be in a hurry top get me off the phone, there was no reassuring me at all. we've paid £250 towards the venue but i'm seriously considering pulling out and looking somewhere else

Why don't you just wait and go see them again, and ask to speak to the manager in person, maybe she really was sick and when you speak over the phone you can't really tell what people think.
Soon to be Mrs Gary Doublé
Everything is now booked
Getting really stressed and excited now

We've seen her in person too and she's always rushing around, trouble is so many people gave bad reviews and we thought we were getting a good deal but i think the reason they were so cheap is because they're struggling to get the business. My instinct is telling me to go elsewhere

i agree with lysblanc
the night porter may not have that sort of info. as for his attitude...there is a reason why he's the night porter and not 'higher up in the foodchain'. not every single person will be the model employee, iykwim

Well unfortunately my instinct was right. We found out tonight that the hotel where we had booked originally with is in financial trouble and going into administration. That's our £250 deposit wasted
Just read this post from top to bottom and to be honest i would have advised you to cancel as they didn't sound as if everything was ok. I'm so sorry you have lost your deposit. i hope there is another venue that is available for you but i would advise you to get insurance out God forbid and fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again, at least you will be covered. Let us know how you get on xxx
It's great to say i get married this year September 1st 2012

Thanks girls, must admit i'm seriously thinking of taking out insurance now too. Been to see another possible venue tonight who have our day free, will cost a bit more for their venue and package but the whole atmosphere was so much better

Get insurance honestly, you do not know who is solvent and who is not in this climate!!! After my dress was taken by bailiffs as the shop went bust and one person I know's venue closed down and didnt notify her, she found out 4 weeks before her weddings, that was a nightmare.
I have since bought insurance for a 1 off payment of £29.00. Read the policies carefully they are all different, but I think £29 for peace of mind is great value.

Thanks Kat, i've signed up for some insurance now, cost £24 and covers all our costs, hoping we will be able to claim back on the other venue still but if not at least like you said we've got peace of mind now for everything else. We've found an alternative venue and it has cost more to hire but at a squeeze we can do it. They're having a wedding fayre there on Sunday so we are going along to see what its like when its all decorated up etc

Just be thankful its only a small deposit and not the full cost of the venue did you mention to the new venue bout the old one goin into admin and you lost you deposit they may be sympathetic and give you a little discount if you dont ask you dont get. x
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
They wouldn't give us a discount but he did say we could pay their deposit over a couple of months instead of all at once so that helps

Im sorry to hear that you have had venue traumas. I know losing your deposit isnt much fun but it does sound like your new potential venue will give you an amazing day. Its always a reassuring to have somewhere with a good atmosphere. x

I hope you manage to get it all sorted & at least its happened now & not closer to your wedding! My deposit on our venue is £1000 so although £250 is alot of money, it could of been alot worse! xxx
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
Totally agree with you MissWatkin, we agreed that we would rather lose the £250 and find another more secure venue than risk losing anymore money
CommentAuthorAnastasia
The new one sounds nice & thats good about spreading the cost! Good thing getting the insurance out too x

Decision has been made and we are definitely going with the new hotel, its room we are using is called the Crystal Ballroom, there's a pic of it in my photo album, we are going back on Sunday bacause they are having a wedding fayre so we will officially book with them then, h2b is happier with new venue too, thanks for all your support and advice girls xxx
