On friday night i lost the diamond out of my ring, only had it 3 months and i was absolutely devasted........don't think i have cried so much since I lost my pet rabbit 6 years ago.

took the ring into a local jewellers and they said that the clasps holding the diamond in place weren't strong enough to hold the diamond in place.

Have spoken to the company that i got the ring from and they are going to refund me it back, but i loved the ring and now have the job of finding another ring, within our budget that I loved just as much as that one

Just hope that the lost diamond isn't someone/thing trying to tell me something.....

This time though I won't be ordering it off the internet like we had done, but go to a local jewellers. Finger feels so naked without my ring....

Awww that's a shame. I remember that happened to my first engagement ring, and my then fiance had bought it from Ratners (anyone remember that quality establishment!?), but unusually it was covered by a lifetime guarantee and they replaced the ring with a new one. I then found the diamond that fell out on the floor later and had it made into a little solitaire ring.

I have to admit I do worry about something similar happening to mine, as I got it off the internet from an "inexpensive" website.

I hope you can find something just as lovely to replace it with! xxx

ive got to be careful with mine because its a fragile setting, being a ring thats approx 100 years old though im already as careful with it as i can be, i take it off when i do washing up etc, and before i go to bed. i have a little ring box on my bedside table that i put it in. thankfully if i was to lose the stone it wouldnt be as expensive to replace as a diamond, as its an amethyst

H2B bought mine from H samuel and got it insured for 2 years - insurance was only £20 but it means if ANYTHING happens to it (including loss and theft!) they just replace it like for like :) They had some gorgeous rings in there to suit all budgets :)

I took mine off when washing up, doing housework and like Panther had a box by my bed to put it in at night, so really couldn't have been any more careful, well except not wearing it and keeping it in the safe lol.

Looked at Samuals when we first decided to get engaged but nothing caught my eye, which is why we ended up on the internet, but like with all distance purchases you don't REALLY know the quality of the product you are buying.........Will maybe have another look and see if they have new stock in.....

My mother does have a spare diamond that she says i can have and get a ring made up to the specifications of what i want, just not sure if that would work out too expensive as our budget is £500.00.....x

why not have a look at antiques fairs/shops etc, or even auction rooms. mine came from an antiques fair and was only £100 but i loved it, its so unusual and it fitted perfectly, which is a bonus given i have small fingers. you could always get separate insurance for it

You can get a Jeweller to repair it and put a new stone in it rather than get a new ring. You may need to find a more specialist shop but it can be done. I broke my grandmas eternity ring and most shops said they wouldn't touch it but I found one in the Brum jewellery quarter that said he would give it a go although he couldn't make any promises with it. He has done an amazing job of it and I'm now able to wear it on my wedding day although the rest of the time it will be tucked away safely.

Could you not get another diamond to fit it and then have that put in the original ring? It may work out cheaper than buying a whole new ring. There's the diamon quarter in B'ham and of course Hatton Garden in London where you'd certainly be able to get this done. I know Hatton Garden sounds expensive, but they have a lot of cut price diamond places along there which I'm sure they could do this for you. I'm not sure how much they'd charge, but I can give you details of the place we're getting our wedding rings from. They're lovely people and bend over backwards to help x

Don't trust the ring anymore, and the jewellers i took it to said the clasps weren't strong enough so they would have to be changed and that the quality of the ring wasn't very good...........and he's a very good jeweller that my parents have always used, so trust his judegment.

Ring has been sent back to the company, so now just waiting for the money to come back to me.

My parents did say they saw a lovely white gold second hand 1/2 caret diamond ring in a villiage near us so will be going up over the weekend to have a look at it. Not bothered if its new or secondhand, as long as i love it x

I had to get mine a size bigger as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my hands swell up. It swivels a bit but as my knuckles are quite a lot bigger than where my ring sits, it won't (touch wood!) fall off. I'm going to get a couple of tiny ball bearing type things put on the inside of it which will stop it swivelling. And when I have my wedding ring on, it doesn't move anyway (have tried it).
Lil Miss Sunshine - you could get it adjusted - it's easy enough, apparently x

poor poor you, i hope it all gets sorted before you go mad! this must be horrid for you. Hope everything works out.

my engagement ring is three little bands, so theyre really tempting to play with; the amount of times ive been sitting, chatting, rolling it up & down my finger, got distracted and dropped it; its unreal! im going to loose it between some floor boards one day lolz. At least ours werent expensive; they were £20 each becasue theyre ujust silver, nothing fancy at all, but theyre very us, and absolutly what we wanted. Im not a bling person and niether is he :]

    good luck <3 x

i had the same thing happen to me, my diamond came out the of the centre as we later found out the centre stone was only glued in, went to the jewellers and they said to chose something else, i was in luck a ring there was half price so managed to get that and some money back as well, so ended up in the end with a ring twice the price of my original one, and i love it even more, i had my original ring for about two months too :)x

I've just been looking on line at Jewellers in our area and as its close to Valentines day they are rather more than the budget, not only that, they don't mention the clarity, colour etc of the diamond whereas the one i lost was graded and had the manufacturers stamp of approval

It's awful isnt it. My ring has been back to the jewelrs twice to be fixed. H2B got mine from an antiques fair. So far it's been sent in once because it had been made bigger in the past and cracked right along the join and the second time i lost a diamond from it. Its a Sapphire surrounded by 8 diamonds and the jewler told me that most of the claw work had worn away and she was surprised i hadnt lost more stones. So far we've spent £300 getting it fixed :0O

I cried so much both times and the second time i had to wait 3 months for it to come back from the jewelers :(
