I had someone buy an item from me on ebay from Bulgaria. I sent the item and have my receipt for proof of postage but they are now saying that they have not received the item. PaylPal have now taken the money back out of my account and are holding it until investigation. I've just been reading through their notes and it looks like even though I have proof the item was sent because you can't track to their country then I am not covered and they will take the money from me.

If anyone is selling anything on ebay I would strongly advice that you make sure you get it tracked as proof alone is not good enough. Its not fair and its not right but by all accounts they can do it and get away with it.

I remember someone wanting to buy from me who was from bulgaria & I was like I only post to Uk. Glad I did now, my main reason was because exchange rates n posting abroad scares me cuz it's all different their end. x

Unfortunately Paypal only take recorded delivery as proof of delivery whereas Royal Mail provide a proof of postage. I now send every item through Ebay through Recorded Delivery to protect myself. Such a shame!

Well the thing is they only paid me £4.50 for p&p and it was something like £25 to get it tracked which is what they require for you to get your money back and they can only track it in the UK. I think in future I will make sure that I change my account so it is UK only.

thats the problem, they wouldnt pay the high postage costs for you to send it tracked.id defo give them a ring or send an email to ebay and explain that sometimes all it takes is for u to fax a copy of your receipt to them and they will fing in your favour.a baby carrier aint exactly tiny so its unlikely its got lost they are prob just trying it on and in most cases ebay will see that.unfortunatly it does often take phonecalls and or emails to get it sorted tho.xx

I can't remember now. Just know that I got proof of postage here. I'm going to ring Royal Mail on Monday to find out if there is anything I can do. I will send that to paypal and also ebay. With setting up a business on there I can't really afford to have such negative feedback.

Yeah it is awful, but I wouldn't put it just down to the fact that it was sent abroad as I sold an item to a UK bidder a couple of months ago. And even though I sent it recorded (only because the postage was far less than I'd quoted just sent 1st class, so to make it fairer I upgraded to recorded!) Anyway I thought I'd lost the reciept, and was honest enough to share this with the buyer when he was saying he'd not recieved the item- he then raised it to an investigation. Luckily I found the reciept and found his signature on the Royal Mail website, the case was closed- I think he should've been chucked off Ebay for such deceit, it's discusting that you can't leave negative feedback for buyers anymore as they do try it on!

I will always send things recorded from now on as people obviously cannot be trusted.

Really hope you get this sorted Jo. xx

The thing is when I did the postage for it I did it for UK only. I didn't realise where they were until they had paid for it all. Grrrrrrr. I bet they do have it or it is on its way. I'm just going to see if I can stop them from escalating it further for a week. I'm sure from when they paid on the 11th there is still more time before it has to be escalated. Hopefully by that time they will have got it and realised they were being silly.

Lol I may just do that if it doesn't get resolved. I've just had a look and they can't escalate it until the 11th so there is still time for it to arrive before they can take any action. Fingers crossed it gets sorted out. I will be well mad if I don't get my money back. They don't make if very clear when you are selling what you have to do to cover yourself. Its like if you post after 7 days they won't refund you even if you have proof of tracking and they have had the item. Its so wrong!

I was reading an article where sellers have sent out an item that has been paid for and because they have used a stolen account or card the money has been recalled from them and they have been left without the goods and had the money taken off them. Its totally wrong. The whole idea of paypal is to keep everyone safe but from what I have been reading it doesn't work that way and they can take the money whenever they please from you.

Oh great! Just checked on Royal mails site and I'm not covered by them becuase it has gone to a third party with it going abroad so if I don't get it back from paypal which looks unlikely I won't get it back from them either.

This is terrible Jo im so sorry you are having this hassle through Paypal, I sell on Ebay and have had people from outside Uk want me to post it to them but I have always stated that I only post within the UK, you do get some numb nuts who will try it on and ask how much to a country outside of the UK, i just tell them what i have on the items descriptions, alot less hassle for sure. Hope it is sorted out soon for you. xx

Paypal are very unfair - they always come down on the side of the buyer regardless of the circumstances. We sold a motherboard as UNtested to someone, they got it and opened a dispute saying that it didn't work and Paypal refunded them the money. We pointed out that the ebay listing had said the item was untested but they didn't seem to care.

I never send anything remotely important by regular or even recorded mail. I always use special delivery as it doesn't go through the normal system, and they HAVE to get a signature. I've had recorded items put through my letter box several times, and once under a doormat on the side of my house. I usually go over the mat with a wheel when parking on my drive, but for some reason that day I didn't park on my drive ... lucky as it would have been smashed to pieces.

Paypal can be extremely harsh at times MelN, thats terrible that the buyer got refunded, so unfair as a seller you have to be truthful, you wouldnt have won either way because if you hadnt had said it was untested you would have been done for that. Grr makes me so angry.
Royal mail are getting slap dash too, ive had recorded items put through my letterbox, one behind my car thank god I didnt reverse back and my H2b a while ago was given a tracking number from a seller, when he went to check it, it didnt even come up on their system, he told the seller she checked it out and it looks like that some thieving royal mail employee had taken it before it got logged on to their tracking site. They need a dam good kick up the ****, no wonder alot of companies use other couriers now.

I really think they have had it because I messaged them saying I had the receipt for postage and that when I had contacted Royal Mail they said that it can sometimes take up to 25 days for it to arrive as sometimes they get held up in customs. She escalated the claim straight away. You don't do that when there is still time for it to arrive and there is still plenty of time to escalate it. They only paid for it on the 11th of last month and put in the first claim last week.
