H2B's grandad is Scottish..I would like to incorporate that into wedding, and h2b is considering a kilt..his is Gunn clan, and I've been googling all things Gunn clan to look at colours of kilt and stuff, cuz I thought it would determine the colour scheme I would choose. What's the general feeling of wedding colours with you in Scotland? If h2b had green in kilt, would that limit you to a green colour scheme, etc, or is it normal or ok to still have a 'colour' for flowers/bridesmaids etc? Help!! x

hey hun im a scottish bride, edinburgh born and bred lol! erm were having black kilts and black shirts with red cravats. id say if the entire kilt is green that may limit you if you were having say red bridesmaid dresses cause you wouldnt want it to clash, theres sooo many tartans though. id generally stick to kilts colour as colour scheme though x

I am a scottish bride too and my other half will be wearing the McLeod tartan, which is mainly blue and green with yellow and red lines through it. My bridesmaid will be wearing a deep wine dress and myself in a cream wedding dress so I dont think you have to really fit your colours around the tartan personally. I think its up to individual taste as long as the dress colour doesnt clash with the tartan thats fine as far as I am concerned. What colours were you thinking for bridesmaid dress, etc? x

I am a scottish bride and my husband to be is going for a football or family tartain but i would also use the colour of your bridemaids dresses as it gives you a better scope

I'm a scottish bride my h2b is wearing black kilts; I think it just depends on what tartan you go for as you don't want things to clash!! xx

Thanx :) I haven't got any definite colours in mind yet, that's why I want to find out what I'm doing, so I don't come across something I like and then find I can't have it cuz it will clash. I think if Iain decides to definitely go for a kilt, he wants the gunn clan colours to represent his family name...I think I'll have to carry the colours around with me, to colour check what seems to match x

He likes the blue/green shade (called modern and ancient tartan on the page I'm looking at) ...am I right in thinking that you can have any of those colours and they still represent the same clan? I spent ages the other night on here, trying to find out!! That was the answer I perceived it to be!!

yes you can pick any of the gunn tartan colours as they all represent the gunn clan. My partners is the McLeod tartan and there are 3 versions of it but one is very bold yellow and black which is not a favourite so we are going for the modern traditional one which is green and blue mainly. x

mine is wearing Forever Scotland, which set the purple theme for the wedding. Colour scheme started as purple and thistles and very very Scottish, but now is purple/silver/pearl and sparkle and not a thistle in sight!
think i need to remedy that.

My h2b is going to be wearing MacDonald of the Isles tartan which is mainly green with red and white and we are hoping to go for an autumnal colour theme so reds, burnt oranges etc. Hoping this won't look too bad since red in tartan :S xx

My H2b is really lucky his tartan has red and green through it kinda equally, so it ties in really well with the red of the bridesmaid dress! TBH though, using clan tartans is like you wearing your mums earings - it is a nod to your heritage but not something to base your whole wedding around unless the tartan will completely clash with your chosen colour scheme!

My H2B has an irish surname, and most of the irish tartans are bogging! all kinda dirty brown and green. Which is why he is going for the Forever Scotland, cause he wanted something purple. My Dad is a Macdonald, so not sure if he will hire a Macdonald one or wear the Forever Scotland too. Leaving that up to him!
