haha good stuff! In the last week i've bought new tiara (old one broke), new shoes (bargain and thought could be spares but are actually more comfortable than original pair), sugarpaste for buttons, and paid for the stationery.
Ooh what's the groom's cake like?
CommentAuthorhoneypie
Grooms cake is a massive chocolate frosting covered chocolate chip monstrosity from his childhood - but it's very very tasty! His auntie is making it.. she's also doing a 'bride's cake' which is very pretty, white and glittery with sugar roses...although I haven't yet decided on the filling!
CommentAuthorHayley Elizabeth
Ooh i love Ness Gardens honey pie, that's going to be gorgeous!! I'm going to sound really dumb here but... what's a groom's cake? I'm new to this wedding thing and sadly don't have my mum to help me along :( Never been one of those girls who knew exactly how they wanted their wedding either = nightmare haha! xxx
CommentAuthorKate4
Sounds delicious!!!
Have you picked a maid of honour or bridesmaid yet Hayley? Sure she'll/they'll help you whenever you need advice.
CommentAuthorHayley Elizabeth
Yes and no... I wanted my friend as CB which is ok but then Bridesmaids... My sister and i was hers last year then my sister in law had demanded she has to be one (in a friendly way, even though i wasn't herd) and then... apparently i was told I have to have OH sister as it's tradition!! Problem being OH sister is 6ft odd and my CB is 5ft 2''... is going to look stange! Also.. is 4 BM too many??
ALSO... his sister hasn't always been the warmest of people to me, don't get me wrong, she's never been rude to my face or anything. She just doesn't make an effort with me at all, i also think she really doesn't like me... so i really don't want to ask her but it's 'tradition'... ARGH! I don't know! xx
oh dear Becky - She sounds like a bit of a pain. Glad you had a good weekend though - your day is getting so close.
Hayley, everyone is really helpful on here - anything you need to ask, just do so and you'll get your answer from someone. Have you booked anywhere yet? 4 BM is not too many at all. It's difficult and I feel bad for you but why not have your friend as CB? My sister is my only BM and I feel awful not having my two best friends as BM but then being CB for both of them, I would have had difficulty in picking them. They are not bothered and are still going to help me out with the day etc. Luckily my H2B is an only child so I don't have any annoying SIL to deal with lol.

Ooh meant to add, my mum has just bought us a great deal on Gr**pon at the Doubletree by Hilton spa in Chester. We're going on the Monday before the wedding (she's just booked it) I've picked to have a Tropical Saltmousse Glow body scrub instead of a facial as the man on the phone advised against it as it's a very deep cleaning facial. Going to have a massage and pedicure as well - may as well spoil myself ey?
So excited...really can't wait already ha!

Oooh your spa date sounds amazing Sijen. You've not got that long to go now have you? Haven't booked anywhere yet. Found a place in Wrexham called Plas Hafod that's quite reasonable in price but H2B thinks it's too far to go. The prices here in city center are quite expensive and i really don't know what to do for the best xx

Some Holiday Inn hotels have really good deals. My mum's friend's daughter was married at their Widnes hotel last year and it was a gorgeous day. Set in really lovely grounds too.
Yep - ours is 12 and half weeks away, getting really excited now. Especially now we're getting our RSVPs back in. Got to write out our evening invites at the weekend and send them out next week.
Have you got a date in mind then?

I really want to have a May wedding, my Mum's Birthday is on the 1st May, but unfortunately she passed away on the 26th. My uncle then passed away the following year near enough to the day. Mum really loved celebrating her Birthday and i want May to be a happy month again if that makes any sense at all? So we're hoping for next May... haha! xx
CommentAuthorKate4
Ah so sorry to hear that Hayley. May would be a good month then!
Britannia Hotels (the Adelphi) do good deals too. And keep an eye on gr*upon as they often have offers too. The Isla Gladstone has been on there a couple of times.
CommentAuthorKate4
Also sijen that's a lovely idea for the spa. I went to book too but it's valid for 3 months and i'd want it in 4 months time. Will keep an eye out for something similar though!
CommentAuthorhoneypie
Bride cake and groom's cake isn't really normal - it's more like a compromise - instead of one big wedding cake we're having two smaller ones - bride cake is quite classic and white, sponge, flowers etc - groom's cake is a bit more over the top and chocolatey to suit him (and of course with lego people on top!!)
Before you think venues I'd say roughly decide on the size of your guest list - only because if can help you narrow places down. I seriously considered Chester Zoo - there's a lovely old manor house right in the middle which you can hire out for the day and have the gardens too, in the evening the zoo is closed to the public and your guests can wander round and look at the animals if they wish! (a bit different and definitely memorable!) I would have loved it - but unfortunately the room they would use for the evening reception/dancing was a bit too small for the amount of guests we wanted for the evening so had to pass.
I've got 8bms & one flower girl, and 9 groomsmen (!!) and I've kept it only our brothers and sisters (we both come from a huge family!) so the more the merrier!
CommentAuthorKate4
Wow honeypie that's a crowd!
I have one bm and two fgs. I knew I would pick one friend for bm but I was torn between the other 8 girls and decided it was 1 or 9 so went for 1! Feel guilty sometimes as would have loved some of my other friends. We've got 2 ushers and best man plus the dads suited up.
Agree though, numbers could be a deciding factor.
CommentAuthorHayley Elizabeth
Aww honey pie, Chester Zoo ia an amazing idea!! I love it, so unusual too!! I feel ok with having 4 BM then haha! Wow, your family is bigger than mine!! xx
CommentAuthorhoneypie
If you're more after the city centre, a few other 'unusual' places that I considered include the marina on the waterfront (lovely setting), Panoramic function rooms (amazing views of the city) Elude (exclusive and romantic) Leasowe Castle on the Wirral (our closest, reasonably priced castle!!) but again depends on your numbers and what kind of wedding you want. We wanted something a lot more informal so that's why we're doing things a little differently and 'breaking' from tradition :)
CommentAuthorKate4
My friends (the CUC couple honeypie!) are now getting married at town hall at 5pm and then hiring the function room in Leaf on Bold Street for the after party. Not too expensive, mix of formal and informal and should be fun. You can do whatever you fancy!
Sent my invites yesterday and have had some texts, they've arrived! No going back now!

Ooh my friends fella owns Leaf, great place! xxx

Welcome Hayley, Im getting married April next year at St Georges Hall (all the registry office services are there now instead of the cotton exchange) followed by a reception at the Royal Naval Headquarters (HMS Eaglet) on Sefton Street (next to Liverpool Marina). This forum is full of wonderful ladies with fab ideas and loads of support for your big day however you decide to do it x x

Omg it's 5.5 weeks away, feel like I'm ticking things off the list so quickly! This Sat it's the final dress fitting, then the logistics meeting at the palm house, then paying off the florist, church florist and suit hire - phew! Final catering meeting is 2 weeks before and final suit fitting, last facial and church rehearsal the week before and then we're there - and we're only starting to make the sweet tree centrepieces tomorrow! Yikes!!
CommentAuthorKate4
Ah so exciting!!!
I can't believe how quickly it's come round. I think it flies by when it's someone else!

I know - have been hunting online too for dance tuition as even though we've picked a song, I think we need some pointers on how not to slow dance like we're at a school disco!! Ooh the pressure!
CommentAuthorSijen
Oh god the dance is freaking me out. For one, I only dance when I'm drunk and my H2B doesn't dance at all - this is gonna be hilarious!

Hahaha! Sijen, too funny! What kind of dancing are you after Bridalmiss? xx
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
Totally with you on that one Sijen! Am so not cool with dancing that I don't even know what it's called, just want him twirling me about and stuff looking classy rather than like we've had a few and the dodgy Dad dancing comes out! Cheapest I found was 35 an hour which I thought was good, H2B isn't keen but reckon I can talk him round :-)
CommentAuthorKate4
Oh me too. Dreading it! Bil and sil had proper dance lessons and did the foxtrot. But I can't lie, it was abysmal! I would rather just learn some simple steps. Also I've picked a really upbeat song! But I don't want to change it so we're going to have to practice something!
Planning to get to the chorus and then get the dj to encourage people to join us!

Haha we've already decided that the night before we're going to ask some couples to join in once the key change comes in, so others will follow :-)
Was sent some more pics last night from home, she's started on the actual wedding dolls! She's even cut the veil around the edge as mine has a scalloped edge! Not completely finished but she's very proud of the hair, didn't have the heart to tell her I wasn't planning on ringlets but maybe I'll have to now!!

They're amazing!! Are they for your cake toppers?xxx

Yes - my mum is making our wedding cake, and has gone crazy on the sugarcraft x
Just had an email from the inlaws to be, H2B has some family who he's not seen for years but they send birthday/Christmas cards every year without fail, so they obviously think about him etc. Early on his dad asked if we were inviting them, as it's the sister of his ex wife, but as they still keep in touch he suggested we invite them to the evening only - we said we would do, then as it turns out we decided to invite them all day, as we were sure they'd want to take part in the celebrations. They RSVP'd straight away and they're even coming for the meal the night before - email from H2B's dad today says that he's been talking to H2B's half sister, and they now think that they should be invited for the whole day, and we could sit them with his sister! Thankfully we'd already sorted this out but I can't believe with 5 weeks to go till the wedding they're suggesting extra heads for the reception meal and also where to sit them - we just did our seating plan this week and were about to print it next week! Here's hoping they don't come up with any more bright ideas between now and the wedding as it's mostly all sorted...!

Arnt families great? I have 12 months till my wedding and my mum said last night 'I havent even seen your guest list yet so I dont know who is there for the day and who is there for the night?' not that its up to her at all!
Then sunday when we went to pick my dress, my bm's found a dress they both liked - at £169 each! I cant afford that and my mums sitting in the shop going 'oh thats really good all three dresses for under a grand!' Witch! she has no clue at all!

Have you sorted a dress Natalie?
I know families are difficult :-( Mine have been ok actually. H2b's are being too fussy the opposite way to most people. Saying 'oh you don't need to ask X and X' but it's only fair that we do so we're going to, yet mil keeps insisting we don't need to. We know!!!!! but we want to and are going to! Grr. Said it a million times!
I still can't believe it's 5 weeks Becky. Madness. I'm so excited for you!
CommentAuthorhoneypie
MIL is giving me grief because I haven't invited H2B's second cousins who I have never met in the 8 years we have been together - I said they'd be lucky to get an invite in the evening and she was not a happy bunny! ARGH!
CommentAuthorKate4
Argh! Stress all round!
I'm having to invite my cousin that I haven't seen for 14 years, he's a lot older than me and I don't like what I hear about him really. But he's my mum's nephew and i'm inviting his parents and sister - and most importantly as my mum is paying a lot towards the wedding I am gonna give her that one. His kid can't come though. Ha.
CommentAuthornatalie2614
Glad to hear its not just us going through the stress although if people were bugging me about a guest list 5 weeks before the big day i think they would be getting a slap!
Yes Ive sorted my dress out. Well its picked but Im not ordering until August when Ive got the deposit together. Its Romantica's Shania but the stock photo shows silver embroidery. Im having it with Navy blue embroidery bit like the photos below. Its very fitted at the waist and shows off my apparently tiny waist (never knew I had one lol!). Got the thumbs up from mum and my 2 bms

Haha fab, I've got my fitting appt tomorrow so that'll be the moment of truth!
Clare if you haven't got oasis balls yet you can have ours as due to not needing so many tables, we've got 5 12cm ones left over unused :-)
CommentAuthorKate4
Ah i've bought some! Thank you though :-) Perhaps you can swap them for something in the swap shop?
Oooh exciting! I meant to ask, what did you decide on for flowers?
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
Haha I still have no idea, Lynn was very efficient in the shop and said I was going to have pink, yellow, green, purple, orange, think tropical she said!! I think the buttonholes are going to be cerise and orangey roses with some spray around them, but I have no idea what's in the bouquets - crazy really as I'm popping in tomorrow to pay the balance off! Am sure she'll have it all under control...!!
CommentAuthorKate4
Haha! She is funny. She said to me 'Hmmm I think you're a classic English rose' (which basically means pale and pasty!) 'so we'll go for antiquey blush pink roses'. Which was fine as I was thinking of something like that anyway. But I didn't discuss anything else with her about actual arrangements. Am planning to pop in next month some time to confirm what she has in mind
Those colours sound fabulous. So bright and cheery!
