My venue isnt one that normally hosts weddings because it is a military establishment, see in the pic though you would never think it. They put an 'indoor marquee up and put carpet down, hire in a dance floor and everything for us. The pics dont do it justice. As my partner is in the navy, we get a little bit of the naval tradition included and out the back they have fantastic views of the liverpool marina, perfect for photos!
Oh wow that's fab. What an unusual place then! I was initially interested in the Marina Bar and Grill because of the photo opps of the marina! (But nobody got back to me after 2 emails and when I rang they said I couldn't view it.)
That's not far from Town Hall either. x
CommentAuthornatalie2614
Its beautiful isnt it? Its only a 10 minute drive from the town hall, so we were made up when we got told we could have it. Something no one else can have and we can make totally unique to us.
I had my 6th form prom at the liverpool marina and it was gorg! When i priced our wedding there i was looking at £35 per head, not including any drinks, but they were quite rude in the response so I stayed away

It looks lovely natalie! Very romantic!
I also looked at the marina - they sent me a brochure but stood me up twice when I went to view it, so gave up! Love my venue though...I've put some pics up on my wall...check it out x

Ooooh lovely. Not been there before honeypie but looks lovely. And I love around the Palm House.
In a way I'm a bit sad I won't have outsidey garden shots, but then I remember I can get a Liver Buidling shot which excites me equally! And to be fair we can use the church gardens next door to the hotel. x

Have any of you Liverpool ladies thought about/sorted a hen do yet? I'm sticking in the city but not sure of plans yet. H2b Is going to Chester races then out in town. x
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
I have no idea about a hen, I went to one in Chester in June where we had rooms in a farmhouse, had a silly tea party in the afternoon then went out in Chester which was fun! Went to another a few years ago where we went to a 70's theme night at the Village Hotel in Warrington which was fun too but I don't want to do anything the same as anyone else! Argh!
CommentAuthorKate4
I really don't know. My only bridesmaid lives in Switzerland so I'll be sorting it and I'm not sure what to do. Practically everyone is coming a fair distance so they'll already be paying travel/accommodation so it can't be too costly either. Hmmmm! x
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
My problem too - my only bridesmaid lives in Kuala Lumpur! And I have friends spread all over the country too so I don't know what to do either!
CommentAuthorhoneypie
The boys are going to Magaluf and my hen do is in Tenerife with friends from everywhere, we sorted it out using a hen&stag do company for only £150pp for a four day weekend, accommodation and activities included (search for red seven on tinterweb). They have all sorts of ideas and activities that you can do within the UK and EU, and takes the pressure off you organising anything because they can set up payment plans etc on your behalf.
For the older ones (aunties etc), we're debating over a meal in the city centre, heading to the casino, or attending a murder mystery evening (google that too, it's loads of fun and they have them all over Merseyside). I think it would be fun to have separate ones - double the celebrations! :)

Hello! It's fab having a little Liverpool network! When I pass all these venues I'll be thinking of you all! Sijen - suits and flowers sorted?
Hen do was giving me a headache so I've put that to one side for a while and went to price up some rings today! Think we're going to same place that my engagement ring is from which is exciting! (in whitechapel opposite Thorntons). They have a workshop so make whatever you want. Would have ordered mine there and then but h2b is insisting we leave it til after xmas. grrr!
CommentAuthorSijen
Yep smarties - all done and booked today... Suits are fab - my H2B has picked a gorgeous one, he looks so handsome in it and I'm really excited about my florist - she gave me loads of ideas and I took pics down to discuss my ideas with her and she was able to add her own twist on them and they sound fab...shame you can't see them in the flesh straight away!
We got our rings from Sm00ch in September - it was so easy and hassle free. H2B was getting fed up of visiting EVERY shop in town ha.
Where are you from anyway?

I'm not originally from Liverpool but have been here just over 4 years (from Lincolnshire). H2b's from Whiston but we live in Childwall (near Court Hey Park). How about you?
All coming together then!? I have paid a deposit for the men's suit hire and told the shop the suit style and colour and waistcoat I want them to wear! That way h2b will think he's picked but the assistant will be 'influencing' him! Haha! I saw a florist last week and though I didn't think I was that bothered I'm excited about them now! x

hey smarties i go past court hey on my way to work every morning, have you been to the mens suit hire shop in childwall:-)
CommentAuthorKate4
I work just down the road from it! I spoke to them at a wedding fayre and they were great, but I went to one in town instead as they had an offer on and was h2b's choice. X
CommentAuthormicky
gonna get h2b to call in there, cos i dont want to pick colour scheme till he s had a look at waistcoasts and ties :-)
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
We went there too but I found the owner to be a bit pushy - when she gave us our suit hire price, I said I wanted to check out other shops to get a comparison as hers was the first I'd been to, she lowered it slightly then said it was only valid if I booked there and then, and I was welcome to try and better it but did I want to book it now - decided to try out Groom in town and luckily for me they had an offer on the day we went, which actually turned out to be a couple of quid cheaper than her price and in our opinion a better looking suit (we wanted herringbone whereas the one in Ashley was plain) - so I never went back to Ashley! In the end I thought she was really pleasant until I said I wanted to get prices from somewhere else to compare but she's been there years so I suppose I might have just caught her on an off day :-)
CommentAuthorSijen
Yeah I didn't like that woman either...We went to 1860 (Greenwoods) in town yesterday as they had a great offer on and we ended up paying £100 per suit (+ £7 ins) for a silk mix tailcoat, trousers, waistcoat, ruche, pocket square, shirt and cufflinks. The suit is gorgeous and fantastic quality. Worth a look. They also give you a 2 week hire period (no charge).

ah I spoke to the daughter. She wasn't pushy. that's where we went sijen. My h2b gets suits from there for work and when his brother got married in Dec that's where all the men went.
I got 25% off at a fayre which is handy as I can't get ties to match my bm dress anywhere so am buying them separately online. Even with the extra cost of ties and hankies, still less than full price. x
CommentAuthorSijen
Yeah we got that offer too...brilliant price. Would have been rude not to lol.

we dont know what to do about suit hire as H2B's ushers live all over the place...we're thinking about asking them to wear their own suits then H2B would give them a tie/cravat to wear. That way he can splash out on the Hugo Boss suit of his dreams haha. Reckon this will work??
CommentAuthorKate4
oooooh town hall and the cuc on telly tonight! Both fab! Also I saw the taxi driver who lives on my street!
honeypie - I think so yeah. Or, if you picked a nationwide hire shop they could go to their local one to be measured and fitted?
CommentAuthorSijen
Honeypie - with our place - they will order in one shop, your details go on the system and the men can go into and collect their suits from any shop in the country. Whichever is easier.
Ah I loved that DTTB - they were lovely! Her best woman was off her trolley lol - so funny!

Oooh also, after deciding we are going to go and get our wedding rings from the shop where my ering is from we got a 10% voucher in the post yesterday! Woo! And, it expires after Xmas so, looks like we are going to go sooner than planned, yay! x

haha loved hearing the DTTB presenter describe my venue as 'gritty' - ah well! x

Hi all, just wondered if you could let me know who you're using for photography, a friend who was doing it for me is now expecting a baby and prospective FiL is advising we should book a professsional as there's a risk he can't cover it if his partner's giving birth! Been searching and completely baffled by how much choice there is, I have no idea who's good, who's qualified, who's recommended etc - help please! Thanks :-)

Our friends getting married there watched it nervously but they were quite pleased with how it came across. I thought it looked great. Think they just said that to make it more 'oooh will she like it?!' when she wanted a hall type place.
Becky, I have no idea sorry (aren't you unlucky this week?). My friend's dad is doing ours. Will ask around for you though. x

Let me know who you find- I've had a few quotes but haven't really settled on a photographer yet so would be useful!
I like this Liverpool thread :) x

I was a bit put off by Croxteth Hall when I went to see it because of the 'public-ness' (is that a word?!) of the place - I've been there loads of times in the middle of summer when my wedding is due to be, and it's full of families and kids and usually very noisy...not a very private place to have drinks, canapes or photos outside...the Hall itself is lovely but due for an upgrade I think!
I did consider Chester Zoo at one point though! They have a gorgeous manor house with lovely gardens... the zoo shuts at 5.30 so you can have your own private safari through the zoo and eat your wedding breakfast overlooking the lions! Only downside here was it's only really suitable for intimate wedding of around 50 people max - we have around 300+ guests! x
CommentAuthorKate4
I totally agree honeypie! Didn't really consider it, but I had been fairly recently and know what you mean.
I considered Chester Zoo too! Thought it would have been fab but I wanted a city centre venue. And yeah the size would have been too small. 300+ - amazing!
I'm taking my MIL and my mum to our venue tomorrow after dress shopping (eee!). I plan to measure stuff like mantelpieces, windowsills, candelabra bases etc! Haha. Hope the manager doesn't mind! x
CommentAuthorhoneypie
we've got 100 during the day, and then an extra 200 or so coming in the night time, but the CUC has a capacity of 400 and they've done us a great deal on catering, so not too worried! :) what's included in your venue, do they dress the tables for you? Our daytime place dresses our table with flowers straight from the garden (which are all beautiful anyway) but the evening doesn't provide anything so i'm making all the centrepieces myself...so far I've got mirror plates, crystals, foam roses and I'm on the hunt for some decent pillar candles...we're also going to hire a sparkly dance floor. Can't wait!! x
CommentAuthorKate4
We've got 75 day and 150 evening. No I think 300 is great! What a party! And on a sparkly dancefloor, fab!
We get candelabras and candles which i'll use for centrepieces. So am going to decide when I see it set up tomorrow whether to get crystal/pearl garlands or mirror plates or tea lights to compliment the table decor. Have bought confetti and crystals but not sure what'd be best. Obviously these are the most difficult decisions when planning a wedding....! x
CommentAuthorhoneypie
I saw edible confetti the other day while having a nose online...little silver hearts used for scattering on the tables that are actually teeny tiny chocolates. yummy!! x

'dragees' is their offical name - couldn't think, plenty on the bay. I'm definitely ordering some! x
