Ok so i am having a nightmare finding a venue!!!! We live in Cornwall and want to stay close to home so were very limited. Trying to find some kind of old manor house/hotel with a marquee reception for under £8,000. We managed to find the wholeness of TWO venues that seemed to fit these categories and instantly fell in love with one. Beautiful edwardian manor house that has been converted into a hotel. Great food, their own huge (and cheap!) marquee which was amazing and plush, newly refurbed rooms. Amazing! Ok so were all set to book it and....oh no wait were getting rid of the marquee this November and it's not coming back. Gutted!!

Next we find another great venue. Again lovely old manor house, this time privately owned and have a connecting events company that provide marquee, decor and catering included in price. Again really excited and ready to book it all when......oh sorry we haven't got a wedding licence anymore, we can only do the reception!!! What?? I had only met with the girl on Friday and discussed the different ceremony rooms!

Soo disheartened now. That's two venues weve fallen in love with to find out its not quite how we were first sold it. Just sooo impossible to get venues under £10,000 down here without going for an average looking hotel. We wanted something really different and special on our wedding day, not somewhere we'd just go for a birthday celebration or something. Help!!

Look online at cornwall councils list of registered venues with a licnce and then you can work through the list to narrow down your search. xx

Trying to think of manor houses with a marquee the only place I can think of is the Carn Marth hotel in Newquay but its not a manor house, or Boscundle manor but they are a bit expensive, where about's in Cornwall are you? I'm in between st Austell and Newquay Hope they help and aren't the ones you have tried.

Sorry you've had such bad luck. I thought i'd never find the right venue and got in a real state. Found it eventually after going to a place my mom recommended - i'd discounted it totally off the back of the dreadful photos on their website but my parents had been and knew there were some different rooms that you couldn't see in the gallery. I was so glad i listened to her as I never would have gone to see it - it was only when I was getting upset at the end of my search that I gave in and went! Booked it the next day! lol. x

Why did they cancel so close to the date? Are there any alternate venues you can use?

We were getting it free as they would make money on food and the bar but now they've gone into administration and wont let us use it at all! We don't have the money to find somewhere now! Lost our money for the DJ etc xxx

Oh no sorry to hear this, just have to keep looking. Our venue is an hour away in the car as there were none round where we lived reasonable enough in price and nice x x

That's awful :( I wish there was something I could do to help. Maybe you could call other venues and explain your situation, somewhere might be able to help you out.
