As we are having our reception on a mississippi paddleboat, we have limited space and unable to have hot food so we are having a cold buffet.

I am totally devestated after ages trying to find a caterer who would commit and agree to do the buffet for the wedding. We were supposed to have him come over last night to go over everything and confirm it. He failed to show up and never bothered to ring.

I went to see him this morning and he said his wife had to work so he had the kids, he didnt want to drive to work to get my phone number to call and let us know.He must have known yesterday while he was at work and could have called me to leave a message at least.

I spent last night in tears and most of this morning, my face looks like a swollen red puffa fish lol

We are now having to do the catering ourselves as he was our last hope or I could stay with him but not sure if I could trust him now to be bothered.

Really sorry to hear this. I think he has come across as very unprofessional and I would stay clear of him just in case he doesn't show on the day. I hope you manage to sort something else out or may be the family could help with the catering? Your venue sounds fab.

That is very rude of him to not call! To be honest if he couldn't turn up last night I'd be seriously questioning if I could rely on him to turn up to the day itself! What does he do if his wife has to work on your wedding? Obviously poor at arranging childcare and therefore disorganized. Besides if you do your own food it could be cheaper and one less person to let you down xxx

I personally wouldn't stay with him hun as its will be playing on your mind all the time that he could so easily let you down.

If the timings work or if you can temporarily moor the boat somewhere have you thought about maybe having a Take-Away delivery - Ive been to various weddings/functions where in the evening there has been a delivery of Fish n Chips/Pizza/Chinese.

Alternatively look into some big supermarket/department chains who do fab buffet ranges nowadays.

Hope you get it sorted xxx

    That stinks!
I know Costco do trays of sandwiches etc which aren't bad and so do sainsburys. Depends on your budget though.

so unprofessional not to even let you know!! def don't rely on them for the day, you'd be better off doing as the other girlies suggest, either family & friends or department chain. maybe you'll have to pay a wee bit more but worth it for peace of mind...?

Thanks for all your kind words, Fortunatly or unfortunatly we hadnt got anything in writing or payed a deposit I did keep trying to ask him, maybe I should have had some alarm bells going off.

I went to see another caterer yesterday as H2B had called around, she was only a baker though so could not do it for us but at least she was honest so we might use her for some nice bread buns.

Well after alot of talking we have decided that we cant trust anyone really to do the buffet so its us doing it. My mum, bless her ( she is doing the cake, deserts, bridesmaid dresses, MOH dress,) has offered to be the project manager for the buffet, so we will be told what to do and when to do it. I have my 2 SIL who have said they will help and are now coming an extra day early to help with the food.

Im still on the verge of tears when i think about it but we are having a food meeting tomorrow at my folks when we are finished work. Im still baffled how buisnesses can work like this especially in these times.

will let you know what we are going to come up with, packed lunches at the ready lol

Noddingnelly - thats actually not a bad idea!
Little lunch boxes - be really fun and the majority of it could be made in advance by a day or so!
Buy a load of boxes off the bay in your colours theme and fill them with little snacks - Id be very impressed if I was one of your guests xxx

Yep, at least you know your mum and family and friends won't let you down - might involve bit more work but for that you get peace of mind. Like Munchkinpie's angle on it too!
