We are going on safari then staying in tanzania

yeah the baoab had a good write up too, the voyagers getting a refurb just now, we seen a sample room while we were there and it was beautiful, we done tsavo west when there id defo go back and to massi mara x

Before we decided on tanzania instead we were torn between pinewood beach resort and boabab - both looked great
We went to mara and amboseli last time

Thanks hun! We are staying at the Pinewood it was a toss between that & the Voyager. We have chosen Nguuni Sanctuary for our ceremony & our wedding co is Renson. I am just so excited I want to burst...

We stayed at the voi safari lodge in tsavo we done a two day safari with jt safaris. He was fab. We want to go back and do the massi mara too. We did want to go to an orphanage but didn't have time to fit all in. I will s
Defo go back.

The massi made our wedding they were so intrigued by the boys in kilts and asked them what tribe they belonged too.

Sounds amazing, I am getting more excited now! Yeah we would like to visit an orphanage & I really want to check out the baby elephant orphanage just outside or Nairobi. Did you visit Nairobi?
We were going to do the Mara but h2b is worried about the little planes, yet I am the nervous flyer lol.

Have been looking at Salt lick lodge for Safari but will definitely check out Voi. Did you book before or once you were there?

That's brilliant lol, we would like them at our wedding & I am considering the dancers too! So much to think about & I haven't even thought about it for a while now till now, can't believe it's only 9months away!!

We will be flying from Gatwick as they stopped flights from Manchester so we have a long journey all round but I know it will be worth it :)

We didn't go near nirobi no, sure its recommended that you don't. We booked before we went yes, there was 8 of us so just sent a bank transfer for the deposit. Then a few days in he sent a driver to pick us up. We went to his office and went over everything. Anything we wanted all we had to do was call and he sent a can to come get us all we had to do was tip the driver. We didn't pay for the safari untill a few days after it and he made sure we were 100% happy. He then gave us lovely gifts. We flew from Manchester i see they aren't flying from there now.

I think it is recommended that you don't as there have been grenades there recently!

Still unsure of who to do Safari with but it's good that you didn't pay till after. You hear so many bad stories of people being ripped off!

Will you be going back for your anniversary?

We have planned to go back for our first year anniversary & do a big trip starting with climbing Mount Kilimanjaro... it's called Tanzania Encompassed...

Day 1 Moshi
Arrive at any time.

Day 2 Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (1B,1L,1D)
Hike through forested lower slopes to Mandara Escarpment.

Days 3-4 Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut/Kibo Hut (2B,2L,2D)
Hike through heather and moorland zones to Horombo Hut before proceeding onto the Kilimanjaro Saddle through a desert-like alpine zone to Kibo Hut.

Day 5 Kibo Hut to Kilimanjaro Summit/Horombo Hut (1B,1L,1D)
Evening hike to the Summit via Stella Point. Appreciate the beautiful sunrise, descend back to Horombo Hut.

Day 6 Descend Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi (1B,1L,1D)
Descend mountain, pass through villages and plantations on the slopes to Moshi.

Day 7 Arusha (1B)
Travel across to Arusha, and meet new members of your group.

Day 8 Manyara National Park (1B,1L,1D)
Cultural village visit. Game drive.

Day 9-10 Serengeti National Park (2B,2L,2D)
Visit authentic Masai village. Game drives.

Day 11-12 Ngorongoro Conservation Area/Arusha (2B,2L,1D)
Morning game drives in Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Visit archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge.

Day 13 Zanzibar/Stone Town (1B)
Fly to Zanzibar.

Day 14 Stone Town (1B)
Explore Stone Town

Day 15-16 Kendwa (2B)
Local spice plantation tour. Enjoy the white sanded beaches of Kendwa.

Day 17 Zanzibar (1B)
Depart at any time.

Although I really should not be looking at our wedding anniversary & should be concentrating more on our wedding lol x

HI Girls,

Anastasia, i have stayed at the Voyager in mombassa! Absolutely stunning place! Loved every min of it...

I also went and worked in the slums of Arusha last year, it was the most magical experience of my life. Went to zanzibar for R+R... again, amazing. I have fallen in love with east africa that much that i want to go back next year to climb kilimanjaro and visit the guys we worked with last year!

Oh just seen, i think i stayed in Voi too!! is it in Savo east?

I am honestly not one of those people who are like ooh i've done that... but if you would like some pics of the places i've stayed to help your decisions, just let me know xxx

Sounds like you have had an amazing time & I am not surprised you want to go back!

I am not staying at the Voyager but that is where Sharon stayed :) I chose the Pinewood & we are marrying at Nguuni Sanctuary the only thing I wish is the time would go quicker & I am excited to climb mt kili in 2014 - would love to hear all about it if you do :D x

i have stayed at the Voyager .....couple of years a go then mr lala had his stag weekend there earlier this year ... we also stayed at the Voi ...in Tsavo doing the 2 day safari ......

Definitely doing a Safari just not sure who to book with. Who did you book with again Sharon, not sure if you said!?

It's not for a year, I think it's 18days the one for our wedding anniversary!

I am not organised at all it's only 38weeks away - 37 till we fly & all we have done is book & get my dress! We also have a blessing & party to organise for when we get back but I am so busy with my work I just do not have time at the moment, getting very stressed!! x

I would recommend booking before you go as if you look at a lot of insurance policies they cover safaris booked in the uk but don't cover those booked abroad unless booked with a uk company

Difficult one Nic, as booking things abroad are cheaper, sometimes half the price!! Better to be covered though isnt it x

She is right about the Safaris, I remember our travel agent telling us about needing insurance cover because it's dangerous & if they have guns on the trip etc. Will pop in & speak to her when I get time :) x

You can still book with an african company but just has to be done before you go, I guess its just trying to reduce people booking with companies who arent legitimate once there

I have emailed JT, finally getting my finger out & getting some wedding planning done!

How many nights Safari did you choose? I have emailed him asking for prices for the following...

2 Days, 1 Night Tsavo-East/West Special
1 Day Wasini and Kisite Marine Park - Snorkelling and Dolphin swim
1 Day Bush and Mombasa City Tour

If you could possibly give me an idea on how much the Safari costs, I would be more then greatful as I am just doing some lists with average prices so we have an idea!

Did you manage to do any day trips & did you email Julius before going over there?

hi missus, we done tsavo 2 day one night, staying in the voi lodge. We arranged a meet up day before we left the uk and he sent a driver to pick us up. he did offer us to go more trips but we wanted to chill x

This was one of the emails from julius:

Thank you for your email,2days tsavo east,6people sharing the same van will cost you 147pounds per person.everything included apart from your drinks.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Pick up time from your hotel main gate at 7.15am.Please make sure that you advice the hotel to prepare your breakfast before you leave.
You will drive via Mombasa for 2hours(covering 160 Km to the gate of Tsavo East.Cheack and start your morning gamedrive up Lunch time which is from 12.30pm.
You will take up 3.30pm or earlier depending with you.The afternoon game drive up to 6pm then drive back for your dinner and Overnight.
Next day you will start first game drive after early breafast or after breakfast,
Last gamedrive up around 11am then drive for Lunch which you be either in Mombasa or in Voi town.
Please confirm if it will be 4double rooms and if you like to request fir anything else get intouch.
I will send our a/c details so that you can send your Deposit,

Anastasia, we did a full day mombasa tour (half day + lunch and visit to the giraffe sanctuary) and a dolphin dhow
The dolphin dhow was ok but a long day with a lot of sitting on a slow boat with not much to see

The mombasa tour was good and a nice way to see mombasa, i think we went to the place where they make a lot of the souvenirs, which was amazing and eye opening, then to the old town and past the famous tusks etc

The dolphin dhow sounds like it was boring... hmmm!

Yes I really liked the idea of the Mombasa tour as you get to visit a school etc.

This is what it says...
Day Bush and Mombasa city tour.
Pick up time from your Momabasa hotel. We drive through the african bushes, see nearby village, Visit a School, a medicineman, African dancers and coconut plantations.
After this we will drive to Mombasa city for your lunch.
After lunch you will you will visit the old town, Fort jesus, the elephant tusks, a Hindu temple and Wood carvers village.
We will stop at the shopping malls for your last shopping, then drive back to your hotel.

- Sounds really good :)

Wasini and Kisite Marine Park Snorkelling and Dolphin watch
Pick up time from your Mombasa hotel is 7.00am. We drive through African villages, plantations then arrive at Shimoni jetty. You will board a dhow and sail in search of dolphins.
We will visite Kisite Marine Park for snorkelling. Your lunch at wasini Island (fish and crab).

After the lunch you will have options of visting the village, Coral gardens and Shimoni caves (for historical east african slave trade).
Finally we sail back to Shimoni Jetty, then drive back to your hotel

- I liked the idea of visiting the Shimoni Caves, did you do this?
