    Hi girls,

I'm after a bit of advice really. We have just over seven weeks to go and probably have to cancel the wedding or at best postpone it. My h2b has been sacked today, well ten of them have he is going to appeal this decision as they have no right to sack him as the work they have sacked him because of wasnt him and this can be proofed if they asked the customers (he works for vigin/fujistsu).

My brother is going to take our car off our hands untill one of us finds a job, it doesnt matter which of us aslong as one of us are working then one of us can have the children. The car is £205 a month so my brother is going to sell his car as his insurance is £185 a month anyway he is already insured on the car so we don't need to tell anyone at the finance company as they can both drive it. He said when we get work then he will let us have the car back (hes saving for a new car and will probs have enough by the time we get work), if we need the car we can use it.

Our rent is £600 a month, as well as all our other bills. TV licence, council tax, gas, electric, water etc. This doesnt include food, nappies, clothes (we have two kids who are constantly on a growth spurt).

I really don't know how we are going to manage. Or how we go about getting benefits or how long they will take to all come through while we look for work.

I dont want to cancel the wedding and I'm hoping the last pay my h2b gets will be enough to cover the final ammount on the wedding so we can still get married in June. But at the other time I know this is going to attack me and push my depression and panic attacks back to the surface.

Does anyone have any idea what we can do for now, how we can appeal, how we apply for benefits, how long it takes etc?

Sorry for the post girls I need help! xx

So sorry to hear this hun ... is there any way you can cut back on anything? Have less people? Ask for people to bring something towards it instead of a gift? How close are you to having it all paid off? Do you have much left to get?

Definitely get down to the job centre asap and sign on, get the ball rolling with benfits. If you are claiming benefits then at least your council tax will get paid.

sorry to hear that kempy, i am hoping that because you are so near to getting married you have paid most of it and the last check will clear the rest. Just googled it for you and go on directgov site and try the questionaire it will tell you if you are entitled to money, i think you would get family tax as u have kids and your rent should be helped too. Fingers crossed hun and i really hope that u can get married x

oh no! what a nightmare hun, i would agree with MelN, get yourselves to the CAB aswell as the job centre, and get the ball rolling in as many areas as you can, u should be able to get some form of benefit as the leave from work was involountary, you should also get council tax, a subsidised amount on rent (most of it) free milk for the kids etc....just mention everything to the ppl at CAB. xx i hope it all works out well for you xx

Right get down to the job center, speak to them they will let you use their phone to ring and do the paper work over the phone, once thats done they will make you an appointment to go in for a chat, my benifit (last time i was on) took about four weeks to come through, think it depends on how busy they are. as for your appeal is there a union rep where he works, if so he needs to speak to them, if not then maybe he could ring citizens advice they can tell him how to get started or have a free hour with a solicitor, hope it helps, good luck, have you got much more left to pay for maybe a family member can help out xx

the best thing to do is do what meln said you will get more in child tax so that will help and will also be able to apply for council tax and some housing benefit to most council websites also offer advice on what you can get so check your local council site and request the forms to fill in I'm not sure about job seekers allowance as he wa sacked (even though he is appealing) i don't think he will be entitled for a while at least but you still need to fill in the forms tell him to pop in to the job centre as they will also help with what he can apply for to x

sorry it turned out like this i hope you can still manage to finish paying for you wedding and get married good luck xx

That's so awfula nd I'm so sorry to hear about this. Benefits wise, although I'm no expert, I do know that you need to call them/apply online/go to job centre ASAP and submit the forms. You will then get a text (yes, a text, can you believe it LOL!) with an appointment whihc is when you have to go in with proof of job loss, other income, passport, ID etc. This could be as soon as a couple of days later or as much as a couple of weeks, but you claim will start the date you put the application in.
It can take a while for everything to go through though, so you could be looking at 3-4 weeks, even longer, may be.

As for things like Council Tax and Housing benefit, I know that we weren't able to claim for that when I was out of work as hubby works full time and he was expected to pay for all of that. The only thing I was entitled to was JSA (contribution based), but when he was mde redundant a couple of years back we weren't entitled to anything cos he'd lived in Ireland for 9 years so didn't have enough NI contributions built up.

Give your local council a call ASAP to try to establish what you're entitled to, and to see if there are any emergency grants available for the essentials like bills etc (they obv. won't class your wedding as one of these 'emergency items' though (unfortunately). x

So sorry to hear your news :( I'd get onto company and get that appeal sorted and have your evidence to hand. In the meantime I'd be contacting the jobcentre and get a claim in as soon as possible. The adviser you talk to will go through everything and any other benefits you are entitled to.
Do you have wedding insurance and would you be covered for loss of job?

Hey hun.. It's such a shame your H2B has lost his job but going to job center is a must. Like i said ive been in the same boat myself recently and its a nightmare. It can take a few weeks to get your benefits sorted once you have started a claim which is a pain but keep on at them. Just explain how he lost him job and start a joint claim, they will ask you all about your kids etc. You will have to take H2B with you else they night take it funny lol, you will have to go back in too just to sign forms and start your claim as they cant do it there and then. So it may be better to ring them tomorrow morning and they can give you appointment but they will go through almost everything with you.

Whilst there ask them if they have a number for housing benefit. Once you have started a joint claim they will do a claim over the phone for you to claim council tax benefit & housing benefit. Then if you find a job you get 4 weeks rent paid for you still just to tie you over until pay day. :)

Also.. try and look at getting a community care grant. You can be awarded up to £1000 for things you need aka clothes for the kids etc. Fridges, Carpets the like. Plus you dont have to pay it back.

I hope ive helped alitte or atleast settled a few nerves. Dont cancel your big day hun i know its hard like i said it was only a few months back we had the same trouble but were sorted now and although were tight on funds were getting there.

If you don't know what to do regarding benefits, go down to your local job centre and they'll help you with applying for benefits.
I assume appeals can take quite a while to happen, so while youre at the job centre, ask about jobs for you or h2b and they should help you apply for jobs too xx

This is awful news!! Like others have suggested, get you and h2b down to the job centre pronto. They will make an appointment with you and talk you through what you can claim. Also, search for benefit entitlements online. They will do estimations of exactly what you can get and how to get them. This will include tax credits, housing benefit, council tax benefit, job seekers etc and how to claim them

Wedding aside, I really hope you get this sorted soon. I know it can take weeks for it to be put through so the next month or so will be really difficult. Also, call up all the companies you pay bills to. Explain the situation and that you are waiting for benefit decisions to be made. They could defer payments and spread the cost over the year. That will save you getting charges from bank for unpaid direct debits and also charges for payment with te companies.

Ah what bad timing and bad luck, sorry to hear that honey.

You need to get down the job centre like everyone else has said but i dont think your H2B can claim many benefits as he was fired - if you are fired or leave a job you cant claim benefits for a certain period of time. I cant remember on the exact time scales and if it would apply as you got kids but at work i complete all the job centre forms and send them back to them. Often the job centre call me to double check why someone is no longer employed as it can affect when they can claim from. Speak to them for advice.

Try quick jobs for the time being such as delivering pizzas/currys, shelf stacking at local supermarket, etc... anything to bring some money in and keep you afloat as shame to cancel the wedding this near now.

    Good luck xxx

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you now. Definately go to the cab they are really helpful. You should be entitled to some sort of housing benefit to help with rent/mortgage and council tax. It took about three weeks to come through when I needed it before and they always backdate it to when you put your claim in. Unfortunately with regards to a crisis loan, I was told they do not offer them to you until you have been on income support or a similar benefit for a period of six months, I find this ridiculous as it basically means you have to have already claimed a considerable amount of money off them before they help you with money that you have to pay back...discusting! I hope you get it all sorted hun and glad your getting help with the car. Keep us updated and I will keep my fingers firmly crossed for you. Xx

hun i'm really sorry to hear this :-(

this happened to a friend of mine who was supposed to get married 2nd june and her OH lost his job so she postponed the wedding after sending out everyone letters to explain and moved all the venues dates etc (all the suppliers were understanding and let her keep the 2012 prices as well) her OH got a job and she regrets moving it all around.

Try and hang on as much as you can and just cut back. sit in candle light to cut down the electric bills, turn the heating off where you can (obviously not in the kids rooms) don't use a dryer (if you have one)

I take it your in private accomadation? try get the council to contribute to your rent (not sure how long this would take)

and just beg and borrow to make your day come true

If you are short of something for the day i'm sure the ladies on here will be more than happy to help you. i don't get married til september and i'm sure if i can lend you something i will xxxxxx

Hi all thanks for all your brilliant advice. We went to the job centre and have been turned away with a phone number that we cant call from there to make an appointment within the next week. And untill thats done we cant even get a crisis loan. My nan said she'll help with shoping in the meantime if we need it, and my dad said to save petrol if we need to drive he will take us to where ever we have to go.

Have got an appointment at CAB for tomorrow so ill see how I get on there.

Thank you for all your support, kind words and offers of help. I dont know how I'd get through it with out you guys and even after I'm married (whenever that maybe now) I will if you'll keep me stay on this site.

Mrs Mann thank you, I may have to take you up on that if it all goes ahead in 7 weeks and 3 days xx

i havnt read all but i used to work for the job centre you need to ring them asap for a appointment, tax cridits will need to know what you getting from the job centre before they ajust your payments this is the same for housing benifit and concil tax benifit they all go off your award so the sooner you make the call the better, the date you make this call is the date your claim starts and then doesnt matter how long it takes you'll be back dated. becoz your partner has been fired he can claim for you all streight way. this should make this alot faster for you.
