I went to see a reception venue this week, it was my favourite in our area because i dont want to have to travel far from the church for the reception. I absolutely love the gardens and the outside of the venue but parts of the inside are not so amazing. to get into the room we will be having (hiring the whole place is way out of our price range and we dont need it all for our limited number of guests) we will either need to go past a part of the venue that doesnt look very nice or go through the downstairs restaurant where a load of people we dont know will be sat eating their meals and having a drink. Add to this that we HAVE to have their resident DJ unless we want our DJ to take up space on the absolutely tiny dancefloor, and finally when i picture the inside of my dream venue this place is not what it looks like :( but we cant afford most of the other local places, plus most of my family have had their reception in these places already. There is one place i love the inside and outside of but the distance from the church is a bit much and i work there so i have seen behind the scenes and know the staff and would feel like i should be working rather than enjoying my wedding. So do i ignore the faults in the first place or try to keep looking and hope that we do find somewhere that i love inside and out :S

Could you look at dressing it up with drapes and lighting? Look around for companies and get 2 or 3 to view the venue with a view to getting quotes. Some companies are not cheap but much cheaper than paying exclusive fees or going elsewhere. Where are you in UK?

I would say a further travel distance to your dream venue is better than having your wedding in a venue you don't like and may go on to resent having your wedding there later in life.

I know you have reservations on having your wedding in the venue where you work but I think on the day you'll be too busy enjoying yourself to think that you ought to be working. You'll have a sense of security since you know the staff. And most importantly the doubts over this venue are nothing compared to not beng happy with the interior of the other venue x

I agree with vintage hun theres no point for going for a place you just "like" it would be worth the extra to go for the place you "love" otherwise you may regret it down the line x

Unfortunately VintageChic, knowing the staff actually puts me off having it where i work, lovely to work with at times but they are kinda lazy and i regularly finish work feeling stressed after having to pick up their slack all night and the way things are done at my workplace frustrate me and i constantly try to change it to no avail. It is just the room and accessing the room of the one i have looked at that i worry about so im gonna have a look again- when i looked the woman i really needed to direct all my questions at wasnt there so im hoping to see it again and ask her all my questions and see whether there is any way for me to get the best out of the venue

i think so too, unfortunately mother has other flaming ideas and i could rant about her for ages but im not gonna bother because since she has now said she has had enough of thinking about the wedding i wont be talking to her about it at all now xx

well im hoping to have just found it, about half an hour away from my church- would have preferred closer but ah well, beautiful grounds and rooms, i just want to go see it and enquire about prices because their brochure only has limited price details in it and their website has no prices on it at all, hopefully gonna see it in a couple of weeks with MIL and OH and then i can get a list of packages etc from them :) so excited
