    Hi Everyone

More questions from me if anyone can help. My husband and I got married 3 weeks ago and we asked for money to contribute to our honeymoon as gifts. We have received a couple of cheques in our joint name - Mr and Mrs..... However we don't have a joint account and don't want to get one (probably can't get one!) What do we do with the cheques? I've spoken to my bank and they said there is nothing we can do if we don't have a joint account. How do you go about saying to people thank you but we can use it? One of the cheques was from my boss and I feel really uncomfortable about having to give the cheque back. Any suggestions?

We also had joint cheques as wedding present but we don't have joint account so we split them part on my account part on his. We did whenn both at the bank and sign bothe the parper say on which account we wanted the money to go.

Hi, I work for a bank and unfortunately you will not be able to, especially these days. I would just be honest with the people that have issed them in your joint names, I am sure they will understand, not everone has joint accounts anymore. The other option would be to open a savings account in joint names, I have not come across anyone that has been refused a savings account, as long as you have the correct documentation, and if your passport/driving lic etc has not yet been changed they can open in your maiden name and use your marriage certificate to then update your details to your married name. They should also allow you to pay the cheques straight in, even before the account as been updated with your married name.
    I hope this makes sense.
Oh and congratualtions on your recent wedding :0)

I didn't know that about cheques. We have a joint account for bills already so I guess I wouldn't ever find that out lol. Sound advice from racey though. Would say the same if it hadn't already been said!

Thanks Racey that's really useful advice. I do have a savings account with another bank so it might be worth a go. Can I ask which bank you work for? I really don't want to ask for the cheques to be re issued but if it comes to that I suppose I'll have to.
Lemondrops, my husband is with Natwest but they have already declined.
Thank you to everyone for your help and advice - we'll try a couple of things suggested and see where we get.

I think it also may depend on the person helping. I was looking at another forum and apparently its not allowed even with consent which is why there is a/c payee its to stop fraud. but I still think with written consent and the right documents it should be allowed. x

Hi Gemma sorry it's taken me so long to reply, work got busy!! I work for HSBC. You should have the option to change your saving account to a joint account if you want to do that or open a new oint savings account. If you need to know anything else just let me know x

hmm yeah we have had cheques like this before for christmas we just out it in one of our accounts, dont see why they cant as it has your name and his name weird.
if still a problem i'm sure people won't mind rewriting one with just one name on and explain what bank has said, i know i wouldn't mind if i had given a cheque to someone, hope you sort it x
