I'm Scottish and I'm Jewish, even though I'm also an atheist (not as much of a contradiction as you might think).

I know of one other Jewish bride on here, but are there any others?

    Say hello here.

Well, I know you're the other Jewish bride.

Is there really only two of us on here?

I don't keep kosher, but my mum tries to. She's got more religious as she's got older.

At least 5000 if the number of likes on Facebook is anything to go by.

My grandma's family were Jewish, she was raised as a Jewish girl but when she was older and married, she had an affair. Her family disowned her when they found out, she left the family nest and was out in the cold and when she remarried and had my mum and her sister's, she didn't bring them up as Jewish

Sounds a little bit like the mother of one of my best friends (although with added domestic abuse from the "nice Jewish boy" she first married).

I've been very lucky that my grandparents were the reactionaries to very Orthodox parents (on my grandpa's side, my grandma's side were fairly relaxed and quite Anglified) and set up a progressive synagogue. So my mum grew up in a pretty laid-back Jewish family rather than a strict one and that continued on to my childhood.

I was just going to ask if you were going to have any 'nods' to your heritage? Especially as I know Rowan is having a humanist service

I'm having a few nods to Jewish traditions without including god. I'm having a secular ketubah done by my uncle with our actual vows translated into Hebrew, a chupah and Grant's doing the breaking of the glass. We're also having a handfasting.

J has mentioned about the glass, but I dont want to put in parts to make it seem tacky. As in we are just doing the "common" parts, if that makes sense............

I figure my family will get up and cheer at the glass.

It is very odd. I've only been to one Bar Mitzvah that strict and no weddings.

We're having klezmer music and the fun side of the dancing at the evening reception though.

ok I am showing my ignorance but what is a ketubah SS? I know the chupah is a canopy, I think!

Ketubah is the ceremonial marriage contract signed in a Jewish wedding. The traditional one is basically a contract of sale of the woman from her father to her husband with very strict conditions on how he has to look after her (including giving her a budget for clothes and shoes).

We're planning to have one that's more "us".

so I suppose it is like a written contract in terms of the vows to each other, I like it! I hope you are keeping the clothes and shoe budget though!
