But the problem is, do I put names on them to stop people "taking one home for their gf/kids" :/
This thread has been edited as due to the stories on here I am now bringing up the possibility of hints going missing. Please please watch your cards/gifts/glassware/table centers ect if your venue is accessible to the public, you do not know the staff, or if like me you have unscrupulous family members. Not meaning to scare anyone!!

Well because they're so pretty they're doubling as table centers I'm placing them in the centres as pyramids as when my mums friend had table centers people bloody ran off with them and they'd been hired
So I was going to do that and put out the same amount of them as there were people on a table but I reckon without names on them, some attendants ( oh's family lol) are going to see it as a free for all to take home for their girlfriends or kids as souvenirs lol
Think the kind of people who take the little milks from cafès "because they're free" :/

Hmmm You could put names on them but would they take notice? It doesn't sound like a little sign saying they are for each of the guests would make much difference....

I have a bouncer for my gift table and I'm not even joking. He's massive and cuddly really but no one needs to know that ;D I'm ashamed to admit that i have to do it because there will be thieves in my midst be it +1's, staff, or even my own family. :(
If I write names on the tags and then I will mention to everyone before the meal that they should have a jar that will shame people into taking one.

OMG mind you cant be to careful though, I remember a lady on here a few weeks ago and her and h2b forgot the card box at the end of the night. It was locked in the managers office in the venue but had been tampered with the next day and stuff was missing out of the cards but they could'nt proove anything. So I'm getting a cast iron postbox one to be on the safe side and h2b will have the key its only about £35.00 to hire but well worth the security cos our venue will be open to the public.
CommentAuthorsuzky123
wow it just goes to show you cant always trust the staff. We have been told to take pressies up as and when and to be careful people dont nick the candles the flower shop hire us off the tables (the holders that is) as guests do just apparently take things. I would have never have thought of that as Id not take something.

yep because you lose your deposit if glassware goes missing. I think people just assume its the venues and not the bridge n grooms so see if they can get away with nicking it.

My h2b's mum did that! She took 2 candleabras from a family members wedding! How she managed to get them out and in the car without anyone noticing I will never know, but I was appauled! So I'm just going to have flower posies as centrepieces, that way if they take them it doesnt matter cos they will just be chucked anyway! And I have a very good family friend who has agreed to put all our wedding presents in his car (he doesnt drink so will be driving) and our cards aswell and will bring them to us the next day to make sure nothing gets taken! It's such a shame that everyone cant just be honest people though! xxx

we r having a small wedding so everyone who is attending should be kind enough and caring enough not to steal anything, although i suppose u cant put it past anyone these days! still i would hope that everyone coming to mine is not like that and the venue ppl r just as nice too, so fingers crossed mine will be safe! lol

Omg that seriously is terrible... I have never taken anything from a wedding I wasn't given except for like, balloons and stuff. The worst that I've ever seen happen was people giving the children the disposable cameras... About £100 for twenty cameras and developing etc for most of the photos to be just kids messing about or random parts of the venue or party popper ribbons on the floor, that kind of thing. After that I decided I wasn't having them at my wedding, was such a waste of money for about three usable photos!
I know when I was younger I worked in a restaurant and our silverware used to get stolen all the time... People slipped knives and teaspoons into their bags and I was like seriously who goes to a restaurant and thinks, I need this spoon in my life, I'm going to take it?? Lol.

Also i would take cards/presents and any other gifts to your hotel room Or home etc, One of my friends had a small family wedding and there wedding venue had a room that only the bride and groom and staff could get to with a key, She was told she could leave everything safe in that room, The next day they went to get cards and presents and the cards had been opened and money was taken and presents in total it was about £4000!! I felt so sorry for them, x

When my brother and SIL got married at her mom's house her mom had wine and about £200 worth of perfume stolen from the house. I can't believe that people that you should be able to trust would do something like that
CommentAuthorLauraJo87
I can't beleive that someone would go to a wedding and do that!
LOL I think i'm going to have my geusts strip searched on the way out.
My uncle has a thing about stealing cutlery and glasses, he gets really excited about all the 'posh' cutlery he gets, shame none of it actually matches :-/....he has also been known to carry a plastic bag in his pocket so he can take some of the buffet home for supper. The last function I went to, he must have taken enough to feed himself for three weeks!
Also, at every wedding i've been to there is always SOMEONE hovering around snaffling other people's drinks...or going back again for their arrival drinks etc

It's funny this thread came up because I was telling my mum about the venuue decoration and everything being hired and she said I need to be careful that nobody steals things. I was in shock, I asked her what riff raff she was inviting but apparently people do feel the need. I would be more worried about cards going missing, I don't think any of my guests would be so cruel but the staff don't give a poop for us. As if we brides don't have enough to worry about.

only stuff like confetti i have taken but i wouldnt take anything from a wedding. ive got labels for the bottom of my table decs as they are being given to aunts etc at the end i dont want loads of vases lol. ive asked my bridal party if they would keep an eye on the bird cage post box thing and take it to their rooms so no one nicks anything i know h2b side puts cash or cheques in their cards so i dont want anything happening to them.
although when me and h2b go to hotels on occasion we play the "mine" game. glass from the toilet you touch it and say mine. its never been more than a glass or a face towel but we havent played it in a while so i guess cant really say much on that lol xxx

Hmm now my lot quite often steal small things like cutlery. I know my mum has two sundae spoons and actually she did think 'i need this spoon in my life' they are ace for getting to the bottom of jars. My sister stole a napkin the other day as it was uv pink and she wants to tie it to her suitcase when she goes away. I steal sugar sachets from the work canteen as they don't supply us with it in our coffee room.

We're having a small wedding so if stuff goes missing we've not got many people to search!! Even the hotel we're staying in and having our reception in is small, so woe betide anyone who swipes anything!! I've got say I'm a big one for believing in Karma, what goes around comes around and I don't take nothing, as I'm too afraid some bad thing is going to come around and bite me on the assss...my H2Bis always laughing at me for it. OMG I am really worried now! luckily everything we're having we have bought ourselves only the chair covers are hired and I doubt anyone would take those plus I know every guest really well and don't think any of them would have the cheek to take something we I hope not anyway although I am now worried about our card and present table I only have a cardboard postbox so may have to super glue down the opening and just rip into it after wedding lol as for presents may have to get an usher or bm to take presents up to the room throughout the day as don't want hotel guests sneaking in and nabbing my pressies x

Dont be sorry, i think.this is a good thread. It brings to light the fact that some people know no limits and steal from weddings. It is worrying, i hadn't thought about it myself but we're now going to talk to.our parents, close family, bm and ushers etc n ask them all just to keep an eye out for people taking things. Most of our decorations are either going to one of my bm for her to.use in her wedding or my aunt to use at her wedding. Things are so expensive nowa days i want to help my nearest n dearest out with what i can for their weddings so.j hope mon our things go astray. Luckily we have hired a big metal pist box with a lock n key so cards should be safe, but not sure about gifts. Its awful to think the people you want to share one the happiest days of your life with would do that to you. So sad xx

OMG, I cannot believe people steal things! I never even thought about this. Got me thinking now that I need to put one of the ushers or my BIL on card and present watch duty and then transfer them all to our room so that pikeys don't think they can help themselves to what is not theirs.
A close family friend had a couple of their vases taken from their wedding and I was so insulted when they contacted my family to ask if we had them, we were like are you kidding us! We don't take from wedding and who would!
A lot of our stuff will be hired so I hope noone thinks they can take our decorations.

Its sad some people think its ok to steal from wedding :( Ive decided not to do favours going to put on a candy buffet instead and as for the centre pieces there in with the package for the reception, little sis is just going to add a few nice touches to them. The venue also has a lockable room at the other side of the hall for the gifts which my mum will have the key to. xx

OMG Samantha that is disgraceful! I can't believe your nearest and dearest would help themselves to what is not theirs.
I was more worried about strangers wandering into our wedding although the whole of the Manor House, marquee and gardens should be exclusive use but some strangers have no boundaries and will happily wander in I'm sure even though there are signs up telling general guests of the very small hotel attached they cannot pass that point unless wedding guests :S

this is something i had never thought of before!! it's actually disgusting to think of people you have invited to you celebration, would actually TAKE things from it!! the only things that could be taken really are the centre pieces and the sweet buffet bowls, which is fine as they are candy trees and bowls i'll never use again.
if anything is damaged, we lose our deposit, which we don't mind losing as h2b wants to give the bar staff as a tip anyway.
the thing i'm really afraid of is someone wrecking or stealing my wishing tree. the messages are something we want to keep forever and mount onto a collage, so if someone tries to steal that, i'll break their feckin' legs!!!

Ok, so far I have not turned into a bridezilla, but if on the day I find people stealing from me, I might have to turn! I would be so angry that people could be so disrespectful, especially with how much the day costs and how much you are spending on each guest for meal and drinks etc. My centrepieces are fishbowl vases, and I want to sell them after the wedding (I've got 9, keeping 1 as a momento). I will send the BMs out on guard duty, as beautiful as they both are they are bloody scary!! xx
