My laptop is playing up big time. I have a feeling I have a virus or some sort of malware on it but Kaspersky cannot find it. I'm in the middle of running their virus removal tool to see if that finds anything but so far nothing. Everything freezes up every few minutes and its getting annoying as I'm trying to do my uni work.
To make matters worse every now and then I get the fatal blue screen that tells me I have had a driver over run which I know isn't good news. If anyone can suggest anything than please get in touch as I have to get my uni work done by the weekend! I can't sit long enough at the desk to do it on the h2b's computer either so I'm a bit stuck without my laptop. I have got a back up on a HDD but I can't get hold of it until next week! Grrrr!

Hm, the only thing I could suggest is resetting to industry settings then re-installing your operating system. If you back up all your files onto external hard drive and then re-set, you can re-install from the CD they provide you with when you buy a computer. If you've got a virus or some sort of hard drive software issue that would solve it.

I think I might have to do that its just I haven't got the stuff to do it on me at the moment.

:S yeah...well until you can I guess just keep backing up as often as you can so you don't lose anything...good luck!
Have you tried doing a system restore on it? when did you last defrag the lappy?

I've just asked h2b (computer whizz) and he suggests to go to LINK REMOVED search and Destroy (do not download anywhere else). If theres a risk of the computer crashing mid scan, restart your computer and mash f5 before windows boots, then choose to start it in safe mode and run the spybot.
I hope this helps.. I love having a techie h2b sometimes

Ooooo thanks I will try that. I'm actually doing a computing degree at the moment but they haven't got around to teaching me anything that will help me to sort it out lol. You never know one day I might be able to right my own things to get my revenge on all the people that hack my laptop.

hehe that would be awesome, I'd love to do that sometimes too! I hope it works!

if its a newish laptop that shouldn't be playing up it sounds like you have got some sort of virus hun, if you manage to get it working fine again, check your virus software is updating and running properly, or concider changing it. sounds like you need to reformat it though hun :( xx

I'm not sure yet if it is a virus or not yet. It could be something else causing it. I need to get my friend to have a look at the events log and see if he can work out what is going on. My virus software is always up to date etc. I had a problem when I installed Microsoft silver light and from what I have read no end of people have had problems with it. I've uninstalled it but still having problems but then I would if it corrupted files on install. It looks like I might have to get the repair disc and try that. Just don't need to be wasting my time on fixing the laptop grrrrr!

also do you delete cookies and temp files regulary, if a temp file has a virus on it i believe it could stay there even thou you scan but dont know how true that it. i kept getting a blue screen occasionaly and then suddenly it stayed put and i had to get a new hard drive (bay of e) the only thing is i couldnt get on the internet after that. just make sure you have backed up anything that you want, i lost loads of photos and documents when mine went :( x

yeah I would suggest spybot search and destroy too. We have it running all the time on our laptop. If there is a virus, it will find it.
or try booting the laptop up in safemode just so you can get your Uni work done, then sort out the problems when you are finished.
