So after getting a few quotes it looks like it will be cheaper to buy a new bridal set than get a wedding band made for my e.ring! I LOVE my ring but its such an unusual shape! We dont have the budget for the 900 it woukd cost. Whilst I will wear it every day, I dont agree on very expensive rings as I am just to clumsy!

I just don't know what to do as I love my e.ring so much, replacing it just feels wrong!

    What would you ladies do??

    Awwwww no that sucks :(

As horrible as it sounds could you melt it down and redesign it? That way it will still be your E.ring?

How unusual is the ring? Rings don't have to match. Have you tried it with non-matching rings?

I have but my ocdness just cant live with a huge gap or a wedding band clinking around next to my e.ring! Both people I have gone to have said I will need one making, as have many others I have spoken to at wedding fayers!

Melting it down seems like a good idea, but I just come up with my ring as a design!

Maybe I need to speak to more people?

Have you looked into second hand or antique bands? There's a chance (albeit a small one) that you might find something that way.

I'm going to wear my e ring on my other hand, I think. I wouldn't like to change it as then it would be just 'a' ring, rather than my e ring, but it's personal choice....for me that ring has a lot of sentiment attached to it and it wouldn't be the same to have another ring. Xx

I don't know where you live but have you thought about going to hattan garden in London? Or our guy did our rings and we got them for £1300 and valued at £3500...im sure he would do over the phone etc...

if not look online and see about the wholesalers you can often design your own etc for a whole sale price

What sort of ring are you looking at (metal/diamond carat weight (if applicable)/thickness, etc), and who did you approach?

My custom band is costing £950; that's for a 2.5mm heavy weight platinum band with 0.25-0.3ct (unsure of the exact weight until it's made) diamonds; which I found quite reasonable considering platinum is pretty expensive. A similar ring on the high street would cost around £1200, so I feel I'm getting a good deal considering it's custom-made.

For a 9ct white gold ring (same size/shape/diamond weight) I was quoted £500, as a point of comparison. Palladium would also have been a lot cheaper.

Umm since we can't advertise on here; have you tried a certain jewellery quarter just outside bham? They aren't a bad price.

Titanium is reasonably priced, but not perfect, as it can't be resized and I've not seen any in intricate designs/with lots of pave-set diamonds which would lead me to think it's better for plain rings; plus there's the colour issue. IMPO palladium is a good choice but only if the engagement ring is also palladium, or platinum. If the OP has a gold ring, gold will be her best option; and in that case, £900 is EXTREMELY high for a quote unless she wants a lot of diamonds; the band is very thick.

I would need a 2mm wide 18ct white gold band, I dont want diamonds or anything. He said the cost was due to the labour! Its a solitaire diamond with 'flicks' coming off it. I had thought about bham but its a 4 hour round trip away so is very costly! I dont suppose you could post the Hatton gardens jewlers on my wall could you? I have family in essex so that may be do-able!

I really hope the other jeweler is better, I am now fretting about it all! If not there is a website but they will need my e.ring for 4 weeks!

£900 is a lot for what you want IMO; for a custom 18ct white gold band, slightly thicker than yours, I was quoted £650-700 by a jeweller in Hatton Garden; and that was WITH diamonds (0.25ct). Yes, labour can cost, but with CAD technology it really shouldn't add that much on.

I'll add you as a friend and PM you the details of the jewellers I approached; might not be until tomorrow, but I'll try to do it tonight :-)

I would probably wear my engagement ring on the right hand from the wedding day onwards. As it is I think it will be alright.

They deffo have to look and sit right I've returned my sapphire ones and James has now bought me a new white gold engagement ring and I know I said I wouldn't but a plain 2mm wedding band purely because the stone in my engagement ring is quite big x
