We were thinking of buying everyone a little miniature drink... martini's as we could get them for 99p and then special one's for the wedding party (whatever it was they drink) my fiancé liked this idea as he said it's like buying everyone a drink.
We'd also seen some cute cookies we were going to get as well.

Both of these things were going to add up to about £200 for wedding favours.

Anyway after a change of colour scheme yesterday, as we were getting ready for bed my fiancé laughed and said how we had a cadbury caramel theme, we both laughed and said it was quite appropriate for us. He joked saying we could give out Cadbury caramels as wedding favours.... but I actually think it would be a great idea. He then said we could even use the treat size bars if we wanted... I'm not to sure whether I'd use them or a full size bar.

I said how we could just have the Cadbury caramels, but he liked the idea of the miniatures especially for the wedding party, I think we could always still get the wedding party miniatures as part of their thank you gifts. It would save us a fortune and I just think if we spend £200 and people aren't happy with the favours and we over hear anyone moaning, we'll be upset, whereas the Caramels will fit in with our theme and I think they're a cute idea.... and if anyone moans, I won't really care

Do you think it would be silly to have them? Do you think it would look tight?

Oh and as for not having the miniatures for other people, I just think we've already bought a drinks package, so we have bought everyone 3 drinks-why do they need a martini... I don't even know if anyone drinks them

I think go for it! £200 is a lot of money to spend on something that most people leave on the tables. I went to a wedding fayre Sunday, and this one company gave out little favour boxes. Inside were chocolate hearts, fluffy stuffed hearts, a small pack of love hearts, and a large plastic diamond, stuffed with loads of pink paper.

The only person in the world who would be interested in that is my 4 heart old daughter! I can't understand why people would want to spend all that money for tat basically!?!

Anyway, back to the question. I LOVE chocolate, and would be very happy with a Caramel. They're one of my favourites!!! You can always give the bridal party a drink as you said. Good plan.

We're not even bothering with favours.... Our view is that we've already paid thousands on the day not to mention the £30/head so why do we need to give them all a present as well for being privileged to come to our day?? Do what YOU want!! An extra £100/200 on favours seemed silly to us when we are struggling for money as it is and can spend money on more important things and quite frankly, if they moan then they are very shallow!! xx

Haha well caramels it is then.

I thought it was a cute idea and both me and my fiancé said we'd never moan at being given a caramel ;)

I know people shouldn't moan and I never would at a wedding, but I have known people moan. At our friends wedding people were moaning about being hungry (after not eating breakfast-chuffing idiots) and my MIL2B loves having a moan about everything, whenever we talk about the wedding she managed to bring it round to moaning about someone elses. The last evening she went to only served a hog roast (how very dare they lol).... don't know what she'll think to the fact that what we're having is like a cold hog roast (cold meats, breads, cheeses and salad)

I think it's just made me very aware of people moaning. If we spent a lot on the other favours then I would be upset if they were left or if I caught wind of someone having a moan, but with the caramels if anyone leaves them we'll polish them off ;)

Just need to think of something for my Uncle who can't have dairy (he will eat it if we give him it but I'd rather not lol)

and yes the colours are yellow and purple. I like the idea of putting the mini one's in a favour box... or having the bars with the ribbon and a place card, with have to have a play about with idea's and see what works best. Will bring my bridesmaids in on it as well, they're very good at things like that :)

Sounds like a fab idea to me - I'd be chuffed to bits with chocolate. We aren't doing favours at all - god help anyone if I hear em moaning! God how rude can people be!! People should be thankful you have chosen them to spend your special day with you. I could get on my soap box - but I won't! We all know how frustrating guests can be lol xx

I think it sounds great, id be happy with chocolate. I think mini bars in a box/bag would be lovely tied with matching ribbon. I think atleast 50% of favours get left on the table or thrown away anyway so I wouldnt go to the expense of mini drinks. Your also providing drinks as part of the day so people should be pleased with that!

We're having fruit salad sweets as part of our favours (well cheap!) as they match our pink/orange colour scheme and I LOVED them as a kid. We're also adding a scratch card (maximum win no higher than £1,000 though - id be gutted if I made someone a millionaire lol) as atleast they will get used in the hope of winning something - and will cost £100 all in.

Totally off topic, but I had a job at Cadbury World when I was at college. My job was to write names and messages on slabs of chocolate, for visitors in the demo section. If we made an error, we were allowed to eat the chocolate. Lets just say there were lOTS of spelling mistakes! ;-)

I love the carmel idea :) I think its a nice touch and personal to your theme.

Traditionally wedding favours were sugar coated almonds, they were symbolic, it meant the guests wished the couple more sweetness than bitterness. There was also a reason it was 5 almonds as they represented different things like happiness, etc. It is an old tradition and even today it is considered bad manners if you don't have favours but nothing says they have to be big or expensive. I've never been to a wedding that didnt have favours. Its fair enough to say I'm already paying for their meals but remember theyre already giving up their time to come your day and buying you a present so you should appreciate the effort theyve made too. I think of the favours as a little thank you.

I think its a lovely idea, however, think it would be also good to check if anyone has a milk free diet (my son is allergic to milk protein so cant even have lacto free chocolate - so i am very aware of this). If there is someone that is milk free, you could still do the chocs for everyone else in a favour box, then for the milk free people you could put some milk free sweets in a favour box for them, they will be impressed you had remembered their weakness lol.... like i say due to my son i have become very weary regarding this matter, to the point that if a cake is being made for anyone in our house its made completely milk free so that if our son gets his hands on it, he wont get ill.

It sounds abit mean, but I wouldn't bother checking for tolerances etc, it's only a wedding favour. It just ends up being too much messing about (sorry katya ): )You'll end up people saying they do/don't like/ allergic etc. that kind of thing I'd leave to sorting the meal out.

Katya I've already said I'll be thinking of something for my Uncle in one of my posts above, as he will eat chocolate but it makes him bad. If I gave him it, he would eat it, but I think he'll appreciate me remembering because nobody else does (it's a conversation we have every Christmas when someone asks him why he hasn't tried the cheese or something)

Noone else has an intolerance or allergy to it..... and I hate to say that if they did I wouldn't be checking anyway :/ as like Velcro said it's only a little favour.... although saying that when people R.S.V.P they'd say if they had an intolerance anyway as won't know what we've picked for our meals ;)

No I think it was a fair enough comment hun, I have had friends in the past with a dairy allergy and have known someone with a child with it. So can understand how hard it must be, especially if it's a child. It's one thing saying an adult like my Uncle could decide whether he wanted to eat it and make himself ill or leave it, but when you have to take sweets or whatever off a child it's another matter.

The only people I'm not sure about are some of my fiancé's mums friends, I think they're vegetarian and might have some other dietary requirements (fiancé thinks they're just vegetarian) but like I say, we'll find that out when they R.S.V.P anyway, if people don't put their allergies on there then it's their own fault and problem :)

That's why I'm not asking, just going to wait for the R.S.V.P's as you have to ask for dietary requirements anyway for the meal ;) I honestly think it's only my uncle and he doesn't have a server allergy, it just makes him a little unwell, he says himself that he sometimes has something he shouldn't and just puts up with the consequences.

Most people have edible wedding favours, I don't think we have to avoid that. My friend had chocolates and just bought some none dairy one's for our friend with a dairy allergy. Plus the only thing with none edible favours is people have to carry them around all afternoon/evening and if they're drinking they're more likely to get left behind whether they wanted them or not. Also not likely to find something else for less then 60p each ;)

It will be wrapped in a red ribbon, and have a red tag attached with the guest's name on to act as a place name. Also having a few heart chocs on each place (the ones wrapped in red foil). For the kids we are doing activity packs. All in all i think i'm only spending about £30 on over 60 favours!! It's your day do the favours however YOU want! Xx

Yeah, I do think we are risking that to be fair, but we'll just have to deal with it.... saying that the candy cart should feed 80... we might be taking more of our own but waiting to get final numbers for the evening before we do... we're inviting about 100, so I think the 80 might be okay as surely not everyone will come and those that do if they've been there all day will be full from the meal?

I think if you like it and it goes with the theme go for it
I've been to weddings where almost every one left the favour on the table even when it was little bags of tablet!
I've spent £60 on nautical button magnets that's 2 per guest and for 90 people its not much but it will tie in really nicely (icing buttons and blue and white ribbon on the cake, tables will have shells and blue buttons round a lantern and favours on origami sail boat place card)
