Having emailed the church last week, I got a reply yesterday from the priest. Not quite what I was expecting to hear though.
The church is outside our parish but my H2b has a connection with it because his father lived in the church parish for more then 6 months since my h2b was born.
I explained the connection in the email I sent to the priest and he has replied with the following:
Dear Tracy,
Thank you for your email. In response to your questions - as you do not live in the parish, (also 1988 is quite sometime as link because your dad lived in the parish) legally you will approach your local priest about this.
On the other hand, another way round this, (if you really want to get married at St. Katharine's Church, is for you, to at least attend our church services for 6 months to qualify or be a member of our congregation and on our electoral roll.
Let me know which of these options is okay for you.
Blessings.
I am not sure if this is a "yes we will marry you here, pop along to your parish church" or a "no, unless you join our congregation"????
Any help would be great
Thanks xxx

Oh im as confused as you.
I would read it as yes you have a connection but not a good enough one as needed so you would need to attend for 6 months prior to be able to do it (sorry that not what u prob wanted to hear).
I would possibly email them back and say that you are unsure of the responce and wish to clarify what the are saying xxx
Away with the flutterbys xxx

Thanks for the reply,
Have emailed back asking about attending the services and if we both need to attend and how often.
Am also going to try and see our parish priest this week if i can.
I am hoping it reads as the yes just pop to local church and get the legal stuff done, but have a feeling its not going to be that straightforward.

The line "legally you will approach your local priest about this." is very confusing. But I think the fact he has said "also 1988 is quite sometime as link because your dad lived in the parish" implies bad news (I think, unless that meant since 88 is a long time and that's good?), especially as he goes on to say how to become a member of their church.
Nightmare when illiterate people try and explain something in writing lol
thats how i read it too. gonna pop to parish church tomorrow and see if they can help

Hi Me and my h2b are getting married in a church that is outside of our parish and we had no connection to. We had to attend church for 6 months. we went to the parish office and had to fill in a form and she then penciled in our wedding date. Then once we had attended for the 6 months we had to complete a form to apply to go on electral roll. Once we were on that we paid our deposit and the date was confirmed. Hope this helped a little. xx

I'd pop in and ask. It looks to me like he's saying you have to become part of his parish by going for 6 months. My cousin did that for her wedding. x

I think it's no you should go to your local church unless you attend here for 6 months. However thats a confusing response.

Yes I think it means that you have to attend for 6 months in order to marry there x x

It's a yes you can get married there as you have the links but as none of you still live in the area you have to go once a month for 6 months. Am having to do this as the church we getting married is in town my mum was born and lived to she was 19 and moved away to little village 6 miles away where I was born but rest of my family still live there so iv got the links but just because the village is just outside the town area for the church am doing the once a month for 6 months, but date is already booked with church and iv only done 3 so far,
frist date:- 14th july 2009
bought our house:- 5th sept 2010
engaged :- 27th december 2011
getting married : 7th june 2014

He is saying that you need to attend his church for 6 months for you to marry there (it is normally both attend for every sunday service for those 6 months). The connection you mentioned to him wont count as I believe it is only if your h2b lived in the parish for 6 months or more within the last few years that it counts as a connection. The bit about seeing your local priest is because he will have to agree to read your banns there aswell as at the church that you are getting married at, and he may not agree to doing it for you to marry in another parish. Normally they don't have a problem with it but be prepared to explain why the other church is more important to you. Hope you can sort it out hun. Keep us updated xxx

I read it that either gotta join the corigation and do the 6 month thing to get married there or you can speak to ur local priest about getting married there. Do u know anyone in the church's zone that u can use there address? Or get an appt and speak to the priest in person will allow you to get the Lear answers x
CommentAuthorMrsC2bee

Hey hun I dont no if this is like me but im getting married at a church I have a connection with (not in catchment or whatever its called) and the priest will marry us however he has asked us to check with the preist of our local church that is it ok for him to marry us. Sort of a go ahead I think...which you have to do anyway because of bands...and i dont think you need paperwork-i hope not anyway.
I hope things work out for you! x

Sounds far more complicated than it probably needs to be! There's always something isn't there! x

It will be a yes, the priest in the church you are marrying in wants to see you make an effort to show your Christian beliefs and the commitment to get married. Due to neither living in the parish you have to pay for banns to be read at your local church (the legal bit). PS it seems very enlightened to email the priest I don't think any of the clergy at my church advertise this - I had to go in person during 'office' hours on a Tuesday night to book mine lol
