Hiya ladies! Just want your opinion on a price I have been quoted for a civil ceremony venue at Barnsdale Gardens, Rutland. It would be in a small garden area they have there which is very pretty. They cater for 50 comfortably and it costs £450 for 20 guests and £5 per head after that, so an extra £150. Then the registrar fee which I think is about £400 but could be more by next year. And if we want there is a charge of £175 for a marquee in case of extreme weather, and drinks if we want. Would you pay that for a civil ceremony? The registry office would mean I would have to ask a fair few to just come to the reception which I don't want to have to do. xx

I'm not sure what they are actually charging you for. The registry fees are set and you would pay them no matter which venue you were having. If the price includes a sit down meal etc then I would say the price if fair but if its just for the use of the garden for a few hours then you can get better value if you shop around and get your civil and reception rolled into one as they don't usually charge you for room hire etc if you have the whole day there.
To put things into perspective we are paying 4k for a country house setting which feeds 60 people for a three course meal, two drinks with dinner, toast drinks, receptions drinks, tea, coffee and chocs, room for the night, evening buffet, cake stand and knife, flowers for the venue and DJ.

Does the marquee come with heating or is that extra? By the time you add on the food and extras you could find that it works out more so take into account everything you need for the day.

The reason I am considering it is because we are getting the reception for under £2000 with bar, venue dressing, cake, dj and food. Plus the in laws offered to pay for the church when we were planning to do that so wondering if it would be cheeky to ask if they can put £400 towards this, saves them £100. The registry office in Oakham seats 35 and is actually quite nice but when i phoned them, they said they would be moving early June time but not sure where to yet so couldn't give me any info about bigger capacity or not. Waiting on e-mails back from 2 other possible venues but not expecting it to be cheap, Lincolnshire is not a cheap place I am finding, should have stayed in Scotland, lol.

If you can get the whole event for the day for 3k then I would say that is a good price. Just one thing with the garden are you getting married in it and where do you get married if it rains?

That is what I was thinking, adding it all up, our wedding would still be under £3000 so that isn't bad. Yeah getting married in walled gardens, which I suppose is what the marquee is for but thought they should include that in the price really. Will arrange to go and have a look if h2b is ok with the price, but won't book anything til i shop around a bit. Don't want to rob myself if we can get it cheaper! x

Its always good to know what is about before you finalise anything as another venue may offer you more for your money or better facilities etc. I went through the list from the registry office of all the places we could get married at and then checked them out on the net to create a short list of places that we were interested in. I can sit here happily knowing that we booked the best venue for us and our needs.
