Originally we were just gonna have cupcakes but now we almost feel like we are missing out because we didn't really explore other options and after looking at all the cakes on the site Goff gave me the other day I'm now wondering if there is such a thing as cake tasting? How did you all decide on the cakes you are getting? Did you go to a shop or are you making them at home? x

there is a chocolate factory near me who gives you a taste of the cakes if you book an appointment with them to discuss your wedding cake. I'll be making an appointment with them for sure!!

there is a local company to me that does coconut with lime buttercream, chocolate with white chocolate butter cream, lemon drizzle, vanilla, etc etc so I am DEFO going to be giving them a try too! lol

I found my cake by walking along the shops at the barbican in Plymouth and came across a great chocolate shop that has examples of their wedding cakes in the window, they look like pieces of art....brilliant. I went in got a price list and have an appointment next week to taste the different types of chocolate used....only thing is h2b will do that tasting as Im on a diet! )-: xxx

You can usually get a tasting session but you *may* need to pay a little depending on where you go. I'm making a couple of wedding cakes for friends and I went one better, I gave them a mock up miniature of their cake as a gift!

Is it just normal cake shops that you go to where they sell accessories? or bakers?

Becca that's where I was originally going to get the cupcakes from & just decorate them myself :) all their food is so yummy x

I know Rosei, I cant wait till its time to go tasting! We are planning 4 tiers, and each tier being a different flavour. Its just a shame that fruit has to be on the bottom and therefore the biggest tier. I hate fruit cake! although they do do a lighter version of fruit cake that might be ok

I asked a supplier and for them you need to order the cakes (cupcakes too) in batches of 6. I want to try 2 of their flavours so that is £18 all together!

I had a cake tasting! We went up to our cake suppliers, and ZOMG they make gooood cakes!

They brought out 3 HEOWJ slabs EACH of cake - chocolate, vanilla sponge and lemon drizzle, apologising cos she 'doesn't do small slices'.

Their cakes are utterly amazing, can't recommend them highly enough - anyone getting married in Rotherham or surrounding areas if you want their details let me know!

OK well I've just found a shop nr our venue so going to see if we can go along and try some at least then it'll give me a bit more of an idea! It's really hard though cos with Xmas coming up all the yummy things come in the shops and I am SO confused!! We have already got melt in the middle choc pudding and orange ice-cream for the dessert so I'm not really sure what flavour to go for for the cake... Like the idea of the Lemon Drizzle, do you think something like Carrot cake would work? x

You should be able to try the cake as it needs to taste as good as it looks. On saying that my cake is going to be made of polystyrene as I'm icing it in advance then serving up a couple of brithday cakes my friend is making as its my H2B's birthday and a friends birthday on the same day. Its a cheaper way of doing it and it means I get to keep my cake!
