we wanted to give everyone a miniature alcoholic favour and when we asked our venue they said despite the fact that they wont have to do anything or serve them they would still charge us 2.50 corkage... i dont see how they can get away with this as isnt corkage supposed to be for their service. They dont have to do anything.

That's ridiculous. I'd understand corkage if they were opening the bottles and serving them personally, but if they're favours that are already on the table that people can just pick up and put in their handbags, even, they shouldn't be able to charge you anything. Worst comes to worst, hand them out as people are leaving - they may want to keep it as a souvenir!

I didnt understand any of this until i went and met the bar man for our reception the other day. The chances are people will find a way of opening them and not use the bar, therefore the bar looses out! Our barman used to not charge corkage at all until a wedding party arrived who had been to france, bought their alcohol on the cheap and his bar did not get one person all night! xx

well charging corkage does not stop people from brining their own drinks in any form........i know my lot they will buy soft drinks from the bar all night and topp it up with something in their bag......lol........but TBF the amout my venue want to charge me for corkage is redicilious so i wont blame them.....good luck in what ever you decide

we are havin guest stay over so however stays over am gunna get a bottle of wine for each of them in their rom wiv a persoanlised label on in a gift bag , make sure its a screw top so hotel dont kno if they hav drunk it in their rooms or taken it home lol

we were told we could give them all sealed with a note sayin g they werent allowed to open them and if they snook them into the loo then they would turn a blind eye. Honestly some places - as if they're not getting enough money from you! If they're anything like my lot one drink wont last half an hour so I dont think a miniature is going to impact on takings... we should be looking for a discount for the privilege of having our families there soaking up every last alcoholic beverage lol

we enquired about corkage.... the bottles they are going to charge us is for £15 per bottle of their own wine. If we buy our own they will charge us 15 corkage anyways so they win... it obv stops us bringing our own in. HOw can they justify £15 corkage to take the cork out and put it on a table. i think prices for anything to do with weddings is ridiculous and ppl dont realise how much things truely cost.

That's terrible. The drinks package is part of our contract but I'd spoke to my brothers friend about reception at the golf club he runs and they only take £2.50 corkage on each bottle of wine... now that's reasonable! x
