    Hi all!! :)

Me and H2B got engaged on New Years Eve (at midnight - lush!) and are planning on an August 2014 wedding - I would LOVE it to be sooner, but we have just bought a house and depletted our savings. So we are having to save save save to even be able to afford 2014!

I feel so excited but also a little bit silly about it, I keep buying wedding magazines and coming up with ideas and talking about plans but I feel its too early to do anything - is it?
I have seen in other threads that people have booked loads and really got into their planning, which is comforting because I am desperate to. I just dont want to go insane or get bored in 2 years!!

How are the rest of you beautiful 2014 brides coping with the wait?!?!?

never too early - venues get booked up early espeically for August. A good way of cutting costs is to make things yourself so by starting early you have time to research and make things!

Good luck with the planning - it can be stressful but everytime you achieve somethnig off your to do list it gets you excited about the big day again!

Start early!!!!! We had almost everything (except the flowers) booked in Jan 2010. Its sooo nice to sit here with 9 days to go knowing everything is sorted and no need to run around.
If everything is booked, you know what you need in regards to money, you know what time off you need in regards to work, I found it sooo much easier and cant not believe how relaxed I am knowing that I have everything confirmed in witting so no need to worry.

Also, you will see a big tip to saving money is to get married mid-week, starting early means that everyone who needs to book the time off can do in advance.

    Hope this helps

    xx

Thanks so much all of you!!
I was just worried people would think I was being stupid starting to look at venues and dresses and things!
I have loads of idea that I write in my "bible" but never go through with them, just keep saying "the time will come soon!"

But, thanks to you lovely ladies - THE TIME IS NOW! :) :)

I have now bought the blank keyrings for my save the dates (impulse buyer - not gonna be good when I am in full blown wedding mode), which I can start playing with and finding the nicest designs, ready for when we finally have a date!!

I am getting married on 30th August 2014, we booked our church and reception venue in April and are in talks with a photographer. I have started making my invites and also made wine glass charms as favours. However, I am now at a standstill and kind of wishing I had just booked the church and reception venue and left everything else until at least 18 months before. It is nice having time to do stuff, but I am very much a person who when I start something I want to finish it, so I am getting a bit agitated that I cant do anymore just yet. And I change my mind alot so I cant go buying stuff and then deciding a year down the line I dont like it anymore. So my advice is, get the big stuff booked, then leave the rest until a bit closer to the time xxx

I'm looking around at venues now and deciding on themes and stuff. Going to look at wedding dresses in a few weeks with mum and bridesmaids. Not going to buy, but just to look, try on and see what suits me. I intend to be slimmer when it comes to my actual dress.
I'm doing big things and starting some of the handmade stuff, but I'm in Japan for 10 months so won't be able to do much.

Linzi-Jo, I am just like that, I know that in a year or so I might change my mind or not want what I worked hard on already - I have changed my mind on the place I wanna get married 3 times!
My family are in Aberdeen, his in Newcastle and we live in Coventry. I keep flitting between the three places lol

I want to make as much as I can myself, so its cheaper but also it is unique.
I love the idea of wine glass charms!

thanks trace - what a good idea also, do most places price freeze?

I am so glad I joined this site, everyone is so kind and helpful

I have known since I was a little girl that I wanted to marry at my church so that was easy and I could book that as I knew I wouldn't change my mind! We then found a lovely and affordable venue just 5 minutes down the road from the church too so knew that was perfect and we wouldnt change our minds so booked that too! The invites I figured would be ok as it's not the end of the world if they are a different colour to our final colour theme and the wine glass charms were done with just pearls and a silver heart charm so they will be fine too. Everything else will have to wait though to make sure I dont change my mind! And wine glass charms are very easy to make and so cheap! It cost me £21 to make 200, so they cost 21p each! So even if I didnt use them, I could sell them on. You know how much you can do and when will be best to do it for you personally. Everyone is different so there is no right or wrong :) xxx

Yay I have found most places do. Only one placed didn't, I just asked if I book now what deal can you do for me most places say this year price or if prices are out for next year then them but the way things are at the mo to get a booking for 2014 most place will do a deal as the know there getting a booking, and never pay a deposit for anything if they can give you a full price,

Never too early to book, especially for venues! Popular venues are quite regularly booked two or three years in advance, with the price of weddings rising few people can afford to get married a year or so after the engagement so it is quite a common situation.

I wanted to get married at our venue ever since I was a little girl, so as soon as we had the deposit together, I booked it almost two years in advance - personally I found it helped with budgeting too.

Even if you are not ready to book, it is good to allow plenty of time to plan and look at the different venues - it could be months before you find one you love.

    Happy planning! Xx

Awww, congratulations on your engagement on NYE :D

Definitely not too early to start planning. As others have said, a lot of the popular nice venues get booked up 18-24 months in advance so it would be sensible to get in there early, especially if you need to match up dates with a place of worship if you're having a religious ceremony.

    HAPPY PLANNING!!

The sooner you start planning the sooner you know how much you need to save xx

    hi,
we have been reading lots of brochures on venues in our area, trying to decide on which to view and what offers are available. The style of the invites have been chosen as I am going to make them all, been checking out BM gifts and also tried on a few dresses to see what suits me. The only downside is that I have found "the dress" but as not saved up I cant buy it and the shop is an outlet one so the dresses they have can not be ordered and once sold that's it they wont be able to get another the same - Wish i hadnt gone for a look ...

I would get your venue sorted soon as we got discounts on ours as was over a year away when we booked and once the deposit is paid it was confirmed at the current price so wont change over 2 years. also they can book up quickly espeically Saturdays and summer months. Then we did our photographier and again confirmed at this years price so wouldnt change for next year so worth doing. I am aware i dont want too do too much too early as then in limbo so can start looking around at dresses but i would be reluctant to buy anything as you may change your mind nearer the time. xx

    Hi,
Thanks for that - we shall arrange some viewings sooner rather than later and especially if they can offer discounts on early bookings or keep it at the price it is now. We have our free engagement shoot in Sept and from what we have seen so far the photographer has reasonable prices so will sort him if the photos are good and have looked at his other work. As for the dress, that makes sense plus all the more reason for me to save and look only when i can afford it. x

i feel the same i cant help but think i am getting to into it far too early but i'm just so excited.
do the major things now and then try to scatter the other things that you have to do from now till the wedding that way you wont get bored with any of it as well.

Noooo never too early :-) as others have said, booking early often means they will hold prices that might otherwise have gone up. Plus you can buy bits here and there and spread the cost so it'll make budgeting easier. I'm getting married 5th June 2014 in Rhodes, Greece - I've gone wedding mad too although I suspect give it a year and I'll have got bored lol. My ceremony is booked, deposit paid, that's about the only thing I've sorted so far but going to look at other stuff soon. I think the only thing I'll leave til a bit later is my dress, if I buy one this early I'll end up changing my mind about it. Plus I want to lose some weight, lol!

Ooh trace3186 I'm from Coventry too! (and also getting married June 2014 :-) the 5th, to be exact!)

Never too early. We booked our venue ans both of our things between May and September 2011 and our wedding is July 2013.

I would rather have first choice rather than leaving it a yr to go and having third or foruth choich or supplier as originally choices were booked. It alsio gives you a chance to spread cost with deposits and know how much everything will be.
Plus it saves you stressing as you can take something like cake, go to appts and take your time over it rather than rushing and making a mistake. Plus it is fun, lol.

    Good luck,

    No not too early!

We are getting married April 2014, and have been looking at venues (due to book next week), paid deposits on wedding rings and paying them monthly, we're checking out photographers now.

I also have al the beads and charms for wine glass charms, and have done mood boards in our colours to get the ideas flowing.. I have a file on my computer with all the ideas in (getting bigger and bigger!) but its great to reference that.

My only problem is that I don't feel like it's going to happen anytime soon! its too far away and I like to get everything sorted quickly! Just feels like I'm not doing much wedding stuff!

I agree its so much better to do little bits week by week - and have plenty of time to save. My trouble is I change my mind so often so I don't want to make any big decisions yet, like my dress etc.

not too early! I keep wondering if in 12 months time i'll have anything left to organise?! Venues and registrars are the main thing and can book up quickly so make sure that is sorted soon. You won't be able to sort out your registrar until next month anyway as you can only do it 2 years in advance. But like other people have said...if you find the suppliers for everything and pay your deposit, you tend to secure the current prices for everything and that way save yourself a bit of cash. Our wedding is 8th June 2012 but we've already booked Venue, Registrar, Cake, Choc Fountain, Centrepieces, Chair Covers, Invites etc. Nothing wrong with being organised :-) xxx

There will be no worse feeling than if you miss out on your dream venue or something because you waited too long, especially if you were eager to start the planning!

We booked the venue, registrar etc around eighteen months before and then left the planning alone for a bit, as I don't want to feel I've done it all too long before the wedding.

Also, I change my mind. A lot.

The lady at the venue said they find alot of couples book further away these days as money is always tioght for everyone, the venue takes bookings up to 3.5 years in advance!!!

So that made me feel better as I thought it may have been abit silly booking so far in advance but I dont anymore!!

I've fallen out with my Mum and MIL2B over planning early... I haven't actually booked anything yet, all I am doing is pulling ideas together and trying to shop around for the lowest prices/best offers etc.
I don't quite understand what they are annoyed about, whenever I try and talk to my mum about the wedding she just goes all weird and changes the subject or tuts at me. It cant be about money as I haven't asked for any!! Mum asked a few months ago for me to work out the costs and send her a copy of my budget planner so she can help, I haven't sent it yet as I am still trying to get the cost down... but I mentioned it the other day and she was like "oh, im not interested, send me it and I might take a look" :(

I am exactly the same!! I dont want to book a venue and then in 6/12/18 months find somewhere nicer!
H2B wants it booked by the end of the year, just so then we have 18 months to get everything else all sorted but I dont know where i want it!
Mum and Dad say we have to have a Catholic church wedding, which I do agree with but it makes it twice as hard cus now I have to think about having the venue not too far away from the church, or putting on some kind of transport between the two!

I have the money for deposits, thats all - and then we have 2 years to pay it all off slowly. (HOPEFULLY!!)

i had 27 months and pretty much had most of it planned by 18 months hehe... it really helped as I knew exactly what it would cost and could pay bits off bit by bit x

suzky123 - that makes me feel better :) Other people doing the same as me and trying to get ahead of the game! I have heard some places will do a price freeze so if you put a deposit down for a few years in advance, if the prices go up you still get it for the price you were quoted when you put a deposit down. Thats what I am hoping for!

we struggled to get price freezes, venue wouldnt do it but firework company and band did after lots of persuasion but it is worth asking... dont get put off doing it early, it definitely helped us and there was loads to still do before the big day so the more you can do early the better. It also lets you know the financial situation as I mentioned x

It's never ever too early, we booked everything in 2009..the venue, suppliers we wanted to use etc..I bought my dress with almost 2 years to go as it was half price.

It helps I think as it becomes easy to pay monthly for things if you book them quite far in advance. I've found it easier anyway.x
