Hey dudes, im just looking at the wording for my invites and wondered if you think it will be rude to put 'formal attire' . Im having a book style invite so it would be on the main invite page itwould be at the back but peoplewould need to read that page as it will have directions to the venue (hope that makes sense).

    What do you think?

I don't think it's rude Hun but you know your guests and so would know whether they understand what is meant by formal attire and whether they will be able to afford?

I have had friends who have insisted everyowhereas back or white or other themes. It's your day x

I'd put, "formal attire requested" just to be on the safe side.

Im not looking for people to wear a specific colour etc just that they wear shirt, tie trousers. Basically no jeans or trainers but i didnt really want to write that. Im pretty sure my immediate family would all dress smartly just more concerned about friends partners.

Thanks for the advise though, im thinking of putting in the bottom corner so it kind of discrete but obvious enough not to be missed.

I don't think it is rude but it is pretty much common knowledge that everyone dresses up for weddings so I don't think it is really needed. But if it will put your mind at rest then I don't see anything wrong with mentioning it xxx

I must admit, I'd get into a bit of a flap as I wouldn't be too sure what it actual meant!

Ie length of dress, shoulders covered, do I need a hat?

My oh wouldn't dream of going to a wedding without a shirt or tie on, but if you are worried about it, I'd put it in xx

I think you may be over thinking it! I cannot imagine that anyone would seriously consider wearing jeans or trainers to a wedding!

But in answer to your post, if it'll put your mind at rest to put it on the invite, I don't think it's rude :-)

Formal attire suggest to hat and tails to some people. I think it's a given at weddings that you don't turn up in jeans but if you think there is a risk then certainly put something

I'm going to put something along those lines as my H2B aunty turned up in her casual gear to his brothers wedding and I said to
His family that she wouldn't be in any weddin photos if she is dressed like that.

My friend wishes she'd put that on hers after two kids turned up in football shirts - they're on the front row of the big group shot. As a result she hates her main wedding photo.

Wow that is really bad. Fair enough you may not have shirt and tie for kids but surely you can find something more suitable than a football shirt?

Sorry, did I say shirt - it was the full kit. Shorts, socks, and trainers. To make it worse for her husband, he's a Man United fan and the kids were in Liverpool kits. The mum said she didn't see the problem, they we clean and tidy.
