I really like the idea of having my bridesmaids in a light colours, i saw lovely dresses one the internet in ivory but didn't know if it would look strange having them in a colour so close to a wedding dress colour, what does everyone think? I asked my MOH but i think she wants me to have everything how i want to so even if i said something horrible think she would say yes to please me x

It is quite different and something that personally i wouldn't want but if royalty can do it and look amazing (Pippa Middleton) then go for it :-) x

I thought about it, mentioned to a few people incl. my BM's and everyone pulled a face and told me only the bride should wear that colour so I decided to put them in what will be the colour scheme xx

I was in ivory for my mums wedding back n '98. She had me and my step sister (aged 11 & 15) in ivory Victorian style dresses and her maid of honour (her sister) in a red 3/4 length dress. Looked really good all together. My mum was in white so it worked well.

I agree with the sash.. and what about coordinating shoes (with the sash).. mine are all in a patterned Ph-ase 8 frock - lots of colours in them with each in a diffferent colour sash and different colour shoes.. looks very pretty

I think Ivory like Black is something that really divides people when it comes to bridesmaid's dresses! People either love the idea or hate it. Personally I think either is fine. Have what ever you want and don't worry about it. There are some old fashioned ideas about weddings that I really think have gone out of date - colours being one them. Just do what you are happy with. xx

I think it up to you what colour you have, I have been to a weddding where the bride wore Red and the bridesmaides wore Cream and it looked lovely.

My friend recently got married and was in a white dress, her BMs were in ivory, they looked absolutely gorgeous, but in the photos it looked really confusing because the dresses were long. Maybe if the dresses weren't full length?

i personally wouldnt put bridesmaids in ivory/white/cream as i personally think only the bride should be in this colour. i have seen a couple of weddings where the bridesmaid have been in white/ivory and its difficult to tell which one the bride is. pippa at the royal wedding looked lovely but she looked more like a bride than a bridesmaid, when i first flicked it on the telly to watch i actually thaught it was the bride for a moment! x
CommentAuthorLauraJo87
I think it can look lovely, you just need to find a dress that doesn't look toooo Weddingy, if you know what I mean. I also think it looks lovely if you aren't having a white dress yourself xx

I have a champagne dress and my bridesmaids are in champagne. They have a plum sash and shoes though.

When I was bridesmaid I wore ivory with a lemon sash, my youngest bridesmaid will be doing the same with a tiffany blue sash (to match the groom) with my older ones in teal. I think if you are worried go to a bridal shop and try them on -sure your worrying abou nothing tho
CommentAuthorlizzylou
Let us know what you decide Jo. But really, if you want ivory - have it. Give them colourful flowers to hold to break it up a bit perhaps if you feel you need to but i think all neutral colours looks really lovely - sometimes I think a sash can spoil a lovely dress by drawing attention away from it. x

It's an old tradition for the bridesmaids to wear the same colour as the bride. It's only recent fashion that has changed this. My girls will hopefully be in white, if we can find something to suit.
If only life could be one long tea break

thats great i dont stick to many traditions so at least i can say i've stuck to one haha, even if it is because i like the colour :)

i had this dillema as I wanted everything in ivory (see images in post of piccies ive just done) but in the end I put them in red as I didnt want people to think I was copying kate middleton as I know what my family are like... but thats just my family being divvies haha! You go with what you want and what will fit your theme and I am confident it will all look fab x

My older bridesmaids are wearing white with little trains and a teal sash type thing down the back. As my mum is making the dresses I spent many hours with this teal bit of material placing it in different places to see where it looked best. My younger bridesmaid who will be 7 is wearing a teal dress just so I don't loose my colour. I'm also not having flowers as I'm finding getting the right colour in a flower hard so I'm ordering feathers fans for the bridesmaids instead. The only person that has turned their nose up about it is my sister. I think white/ivory bridesmaids look classy as lond as there is on other colour in the flowers or maybe get them to wear a bright coloured pair of shoes with their dress. X

Oooh I like the idea of bright coloured shoes! Your ones sound lovely x
