i sent my STD's (save the dates) out a year to the day but only to day guests just remember that a lot can happen in a year so i didn't send them to evening guests for that reason as half the people i had on my original list i didn't invite in the end

We're doing it, as we're getting married on a Saturday in the summer holidays so a) it's peak wedding season and possible people might get invited to more than one, and we want to get in first, and b) people with children, or those who work in schools (a few of our guests do) might be going away, so we want to give plenty of notice.

We're already verbally asking people to keep the date in mind, and plan on sending save the dates just over a year before.

Its not needed for all weddings, I'm not having them and I've never received one in my life but some brides say they are good as it prevents people booking holidays not realising you will be getting married when you are away, having said that I used word of mouth for that job and will remind everyone closer to the time which didnt cost as much as save the dates.

We have ours out with 11 months to go - during our BBQ. Because we're having our wedding during the Holidays we felt it was important so that our friends with children didn't go away that day. We sent our invites out today and didn't have to worry about them being late out because our friends have already saved the date!

I'm also trying to decide - I know what I would make if so! But I don't know anybody who has sent them out, so not sure I'll bother. I'm going to send out invitations in plenty of time, so anyone that can't make it, can't make it. We're going to be on a serious budget, so may leave them off, depending on what is going on at the time.

We never bothered to be honest, there wasn't enough time when we set a date but I still wouldn't have bothered as the important people knew by word of mouth as soon as I set the date x x

We haven't bothered and just relied on word of mouth. We did ring up and let know any one from far away that we wouldn't see and that we defo want to come. Some other far away realtives we've tactically not let know..... bad i know!

we sent them out 18 months before the wedding - then the venue messed up & we had to change the wedding,so they became useless & a waste of money. We aren't sending them out for the revised venue, so i would say don't bother from personal experience. xx

I asked the same question when I first started the wedding planning. And from what I discovered, it's all up to you. It's better if you need to or want to give your guests a little notice of the day, if they need to get time off work, book flights, find hotels etc etc.

We sent our Save The Dates about a year before.
We are getting married on a saturday in the middle of June so wanted to let people know asap and alot of our family don't live local/abroad so the more notice we gave them the easier it is for them all to book accommodation and sort traveling.
