Oh babes, Its just a generalisation not meant to hurt anyone. My son also has that so the comments we have all said are about lazyness not learning difficulties. I am sorry if you have taken this personally that was never my intent xx

I think text speak is actually harder to read than genuine spelling mistakes.
There have been some posts on here recently that I would have liked to have read but I thought my eyes were about to start bleeding! What is it with adding a 'y' where there should be an 'i' and swapping the 'th' at the end of words with a 'v'??
I do think as an adult you should really know how to speak (or type!), genuine spelling and grammar mistakes aside as everyone does that, especially if you would like replies to your post!

Oh hurrah for other people who appreciate the beauty of our English Language! It is getting so lost amongst slang, americanisms and that darned 'text speak'. It's not just spellings that irritate me though, it's poor grammar. Now at school I was not taught a great deal of grammar directly, however when I learnt to speak Spanish I realised how complex our grammar is. But not impossible to master the basics of!

Here's to using apostrophes, full stops and commas. And to differentiating between their, there and they're!

I do feel for people who have genuine dyslexia and can't get the whole there/their/they're thing. What annoys me is people who AREN"T dyslexic (but claim to be to account for either ignorance or laziness - unfair on people who are geniunely dyslexic) and are just LAZY. I'll be honest, I'm an educated woman but there are words I always struggle to spell - 'guarantee' is one of them - I always have to google it to look it up in the dictionary before I type it. I would rather do that than spell it wrong though! x

It did start off about text talk and slang sbride - but also people being lazy in general and the lack of using proper written English. I do understand that some people can't help it (I work with kids with dyslexia and dyspraxia, and my son also has dyspraxia so know what it's like) - but there is a lot of people out there that make excuses - or even worse don't even make an excuse for their lack of basic written English, thinking everyone else wants to read their text babble.

It's nice to hear everyone elses niggles about this and spelling and grammar as well. After all, it's all included in written English lol.

It's probably me, but I find it second nature to automatically spell things properly while I'm typing. It would take more effort on my part to type in text talk because I've always wrote in proper English (just the way I've always been). Maybe it's got something to do with having to write properly in every job I've every had.

Half of the time the grammar doesn't really matter as long as people can read and understand what you're saying/writing though - that's more important lol.
