the famous auction site - perfect for invites, hair accessories and even custom made bridal and bridesmaid dresses!!!

cakes - well known supermarkets do plain cakes you can decorate or get someone to do it for you.

have the wedding on a weekday to save some pennies!

have a late wedding so you only need to have the one meal rataher than a buffett as well!

photographer - look at askin college students who will be willing to do it for the cheap so they can add to their portfolio

if havin a civil wedding and its all in the one place i.e. hotel, stay there the night before to save on transport.

look out for offers on suit hire..most places do a hire 5 suits and you get one of them for free *the grooms*

    Thats not a bad budget

we're having a 5k budget and are no where near touching it yet, you just have to know where to go and how to barter if you ask me, a 5k budget doesnt mean it wont look fantastic.

any particular things you need help with? (ask anyone here i love to help lol)

flowers - grab a few bunches from the supermarkets and make up your own arrangement the day before..but do this before hand as to get practice.

ask around venues as like mine, they will often print off your menus, table plans and place cards for you!!!!

dont bother about favours - donate to a charity and have a place card on each table explaining you have donated to a charity on the guests's behalf

wish id had 5 grand to spend! our budget was 3grand and weve got everything we want. alot of girls on hree have tight budgets and we have found the internet a BIG help.
remember aswell, most places are willing to do deals so dnt be afraid to barter.
you dont have to have the best of the best to have a good time.
fake fowers are cheaper than real.
just because the food has a high price tag doesnt mean it will taste amazing (at the last wedding i went to the hig roast buffet was much preffered over the expensive sit down meal)
making your own stuff, like invites etc...saves alot of money. we have made our own tabe decs, sashes for tables, invites, sweety buffet.
    it can be done!

I think we did ours for under that and we spent quite a lot on our free bar at the reception - as has been said before the big saving is to have one buffet rather than a sit down meal so we got married at 3pm and had the meal at 7pm. We just had one set of guests so didn't have another bunch arriving at 8pm.

My budget is 5k and that includes 2.5 for honeymoon. I suppose it depends on what you want from your wedding. If you want OTT glam you may struggle but ours is a small wedding and big reception with the less is more approach.

i'd never be able to afford to get married in a hotel on that budget where I live. So i guess thats the crux of it, what is available where you live.

The cheapest hotel near me is about £3k for 70 day and 120 night. Then I would only have £2 left for dress and everything else which would be a bit tight.

good old postcode lottery!! am probably cheaper hiring buses and busing folk down south for a cheaper venue with cheaper suppliers!

    thats our budget as well

we are having a hog roast and salad buffet with crumble and cake for desert yum
    in a village hall
everyone comes to everything which turned out cheaper because you only had to feed people ones
we are doing out own entertainment (board games and other games)
we are frgoing having special cars but will just do up the ones family have
friends and family have offered to pay for certain bits like BM dresses cakes and my dress which helps

    but it can be done
make your own decorations for the room
    do you own invites
sell stuff on ebay as well as looking for it on there
there are lots of ways of having a classy wedding on a shoe string and 5k isn't really a shoe string

our budget is 3k hun and we have got loads, we have been very lucky with deals and offers so yes you can defo get married on a budget. you don't need to spend 10% of what a house is worth to get married. its the same outcome and you and your family make the day special. the trick for us keeping the cost down was the venue for reception xx

do what is right for you. we thought we could do ours on a small budget and went to see a venue which was of a lower cost to others. we did not like it!

we have since realised that it is a grand location what we want - and where we live this comes at a price. we have decided that rather than compromise on year rather than venue.

only you will know what is right and what you want. good luck x

Its not how much money you throw at a wedding that makes it special its the people getting married and the emotions on the day. I had never liked the idea of a registry office until my friend got married there and it was so special. I shed a few tears and it was beautiful. It really changed my views and made me realise you don't have to have all the glitz and glam to be special. There are loads of ideas you can use that will save you money but still allows you to have everything you want.

I would rather be on a budget than get into loads of debt and worry about paying for it. Even if we had more money to spend on the wedding I wouldn't change a thing as it wouldn't make the day any better than what it is.

Yes, getting married means more than the actual day. The day is over in a blink, the rest of your life is what is important not how much you spend doing it.

Anyhow, it's not a bad budget to have!! Depending on what kind of wedding you have in your head just be open to compromises. Unless you are a WAG, all of us have to stick to a budget and compromise along the way, just some more than others. Anyway, look at it this way, if you didn't have a budget to stick to, would you enjoy planning so much if you could just buy anything you wanted? I wouldn't have.

The biggest cost is usually your venue in my experience so depending on where you want to get married then just think of ways you can try and save money. I hate negotiating, but remember that venues will generally negotiate and you don't have to be good at it - for example if you can do a mid week wedding (or even a Sunday or a winter wedding) then you could be able to have a wedding that would cost double on a Saturday in the summer - it never hurts to ask! The same with other suppliers! For me, being married is most important at the end of the day and you just have to make your budget work - work out what is a must have and what isn't and go from there and make the budget work.

    (Sorry, long post over!)
