I got to the point last week where I didn't want to get married anymore as I couldn't find anywhere near where I live that was affordable and that could let me do what I like. But then one of my friends suggested a pavilion near where I used to live in Strathpeffer, Highlands. It is a lovely big hall that I could make look great but am worried if we decide to go for it that because it is hundreds of miles away, that we won't be able to organise things properly and will have to rely on phone or e-mail contact to get things done. Also will have to rent a holiday cottage too so we can be up there to decorate everything for the big day. Is anyone else doing this and if you are what are your stress levels like?! :) xx

I guess I am just worrying and also like to be in control and couldn't think how I could do it without being there to breathe down everyones necks, lol. My mate lives near the place and my parents do too, so I am sure it won't be too bad. Good luck with the rest of your planning, not long now! :) x

if you give your contact really clear ideas and use your mate to check if needs be it will be fine i know its hard giving up control in a sense that you cant see it and i was stressing too at the thought of it at the start but if its meant to be its meant to be and no amount of stressing will help it go with it and enjoy it be very clear with instructions colours etc or get on the phone xx

Thanks! I will still enjoy the planning, and at least I have been to venue once before for a mates anniversary ball, which is a load off in that respect, I know it is nice! :) x

I got married in Yorkshire, lived in Lpndon and at that point Pidge lived in Northumbria.
We made regular visits, and arranged meetings on these weekends a few weeks in advance so that we could see the people we needed to when we could. It did mean our 6 month meeting with the venue happened at 4.5 months though. Its perfectly possible with the aid of the internet.
Now a extremely happy German housewife and now a Mother!!!!

Think we just need to make one visit thankfully, couldn't afford the petrol to go up any more than that, horrible road in places too, so takes ages to get there. Will just have to make sure I am super organised. Glad I have friends there that know people who could play ceilidh music too, so will save money there!

yep i`m getting married approx 5500 miles away from where i live
We are getting married about 150 miles away from where we live. H2B's family are from Devon and mine are from Kent, while we live in Northampton! We are getting married back in Kent so we are organising things long-distance. I think that with emails and phone calls it should be fine, plus you can get there and back in day if we needed to go for a meeting or anything. The only drawback is having to 'move' down there for about 4 days before the wedding to get the decorating and things done. I'm looking forward to it, it's going to happen where I want and how I want (within reason, H2B is being very practical!)

We are getting married in Italy, though we're both from Ireland but live in Manchester! It's a lot of hard work but I find email works well because you have everything in writing then (which helps to fall back on just in case) and you can attach pictures etc. of what you want. Just be very specific about your ideas so that leaves little room for surprises!

Im getting married in Vegas and live in Essex! Lucky thing my friend went last year and checked all the chapels i had short listed and thats how we choose the one we wanted. They are soooo helpful and get back to me really quick taking into account the time difference
Hope it goes 2 plan xx

That is what we are having to do nini, which is an extra £400 to rent a cottage in the village for the week. So although it will be a nice little holiday, it eats into h2bs holiday entitlement for the year just to organise the decorations and things and money we could be spending elsewhere. We are still unsure whether to go so far up to where I used to live or to go to Gretna and have them do all the work and save money. My heart is torn as I miss home and it would be sentimental, but I know that a lot of guests won't be able to get up there and I want to have our special day with people we care about, so a bit of a tough decision! x

We're getting married 220 miles from where we currently live..............back up in the north east where our parents and childhood friends live. I will also be studying for my final year of my medical degree in the run up to the big day so i expect my stress levels to be absolutely through the roof but im going to be allocating jobs to various family members and my MIL2B so hopefully things will come together nicely. Im starting planning early though so that all the big desicions about venue etc. are made well ahead of time
Hope it all comes together for you xx

We're in Leeds and getting married at Gretna Green. We went up there last January just after we'd booked everything (through the wedding bureau) to have a look round and get acquainted with the place, and to find a reception venue. And we're going up at the beginning of May to take our M10 forms, maybe speak to the minister and finalise arrangements/pay for the reception etc.
We're having a small wedding (20 of us) and some of us have booked into the hotel where the reception is being held the night before - and the rest of the guests are coming up on the day, and are booked in various hotels in Gretna for the wedding night.

We're getting married in Vegas, the Chapel that we're using so far has been brilliant organising everything for us and its really taken the pressure off me. All we have to do now is get the marriage licence when we arrive and mark to pick up his suit and thats it........can't wait :o) x
