I was looking on e bizzle and various sites last night for flowers I can use for inside my bird cages ( to be centrepieces), and was amazed at the prices for wedding pomanders, even a smallish one was around £30! So I looked on a site showing how to make it yourself and it looks easy so am going to have a go at the end of the month and if it is successful, I will do them all myself. Are any of you doing any of your flowers yourself to save money? An individual pomander to make will cost me around £5 so I can save a fair amount of money I think. :D

Think I should do it when no one is at home, I can get a bit vocal if things don't go to plan, lol. Plus I will have to line the whole kitchen with newspaper as I need to use hot glue to keep the greening pins in the ribbon and ball. Looks lovely though on the website even with carnations, so fingers crossed it will work, I love saving money!! :D

Cant wait to to marry Martyn

I will buy my bouquet, there are some lovely silk/foam ones I have seen and I want to be able to keep mine forever, but if the pomanders work then I can decorate all the tables and make some pretty ones for the bridesmaids. I think they are so effective and easy, and the fact that you can use lots of different flowers means I can have exactly what I want colour wise. and then there is the choices of ribbon, I could take some time choosing, lol. x

I think it is definately worth a go and not only saves a fortune but gives so much satisfaction that you did it yourself!!! Are you using silk or fresh flowers?
CommentAuthorsalamander
I made my bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets - the rest of the flowers are provided by the venue. Cost me minimal money and I can tweak to my pleasure! May have photo's on here I think

Definately give it a go. I'm doing as much as I possibly can. It'll be awesome on the day, to look at everything together and think 'I made that, and that, and that!'

I'm making my own with fake flowers but isn't really anything involved in what i want to do cause i know i wont be any good and trying to be clever and making it complicated lol. My vases and mirror plates x8 were £50 to buy and my flowers were £5 as are only flower heads plus £15 on pebbles to put in them and I'm done for £70 for 8 tables x

very happy wife
after a perfect wedding

By all means have a go but a word of advice if using fresh flowers, please think of the time it takes the day before or even morning of your wedding. It is supposed to be a relaxing enjoyable time with close friends and family, do you really want to be stressing over your flowers. Silk is different you have loads of time to get them right before the day :-)

i am seriously thinking about it. Just making simple hand tied posies for the bridesmaids looks very easy on e-how. And as i now have hurricane vases and candles as my centrepieces, I am thinking of getting little posy vases (can get 24 for £30) and putting 4 of them each on the table and just a sticking in a few fresh flowers, am actually planning raiding tesco the day before the wedding! some freesia, stocks and maybe a rose in each. As its not the main focus it shouldnt really matter. then only need to get my bouquet and the button holes from a florist.

Echo Laura's question, if anyone has any recommendations on places to get silk & foam flowers, I would love them.. I am planning to make my own bouquets too, but need to source a good supplier of the flowers :-)

I've done all mine. Pics are in my photos if you want a look! It wasn't too hard and I actually really enjoyed it. If you can, get your flowers (if you are having artificial) from somewhere like country baskets or some other wholesalers and you will pick them up really cheap.

Wow, woke up to lots of comments, lol. I am going to use fresh flowers, I wanted peonies but don't think they will work very well and fall apart, so roses or carnations look really good in pictures. And yes I would love the feeling of knowing I did them, but will probably ask everyone what they think of the flowers and if I get compliments I shall brag that it was me! lol. I do appreciate the timescale to make them but have my best mate to help and maybe a drink or two to keep us going, there will only be around 10 to make, so we just need 4 hours or so the day before, I don't expect to have much of a stress free run up with 3 children to run around after as well :) And Sarahs Flowers do lovely silk flowers, I just couldn't afford to get all my flowers from there, so probably just my bouquet and button holes. :) xx Now I shall look at anyones photos that have done their own! :D

Thank you so much. My H2B keeps saying I should do them on the side and sell them on ebay or whatever. Once the wedding is over I might just have a go if I have some spare time!

I agree have just had a look at your flowers and they are stunning!

I love your flowers FirstDance! I am trying to do my own, where did you get your flowers from? and where can you find instructions to make them online?
Or anyone else know? :-)
CommentAuthoralmostmrswood
I've looked at a couple of sites but I'm worried in case I order them and they look rubbish. I'd much prefer to be able to go to a shop and choose what I want but I don't know of any around Aberdeen
CommentAuthorYourFirstDanceBride
I got the flowers from country baskets wholesalers and then just played around with them to put it all together!
CommentAuthorMumble83
I am going to just get a few bunches of tulips from the supermarket, add some Lily Of The Valley in memory of my Dad and tie them together with purple and black ribbon for my bouquet. I am then going to use the rest of the tulips (leaving out the Lily Of The Valley) tied with white and lilac ribbon for the BMs. xx
CommentAuthorFaeth
I am thinking of making the bouquets myself. Those who got flowers from country baskets - did you go to their shop, or order them online? They are quite near me, and I think I need to see the stuff physically before I buy... I've looks at lots of stockists online, but I really want to see the flowers first....

After much thought and a look at a couple of the girls pics on here we have decided to make our own using the wooden roses you get. Its going to work out massivly cheaper for us since we had to change our reception venue. xx

The wooden roses have become massively popular recently, and they look great. If I had something like that I know my then 2 year old would use them as weapons, lol. Going to have a look at this country basket shop though, see if it is something I could do. x
