Me and my h2b have been together for 7 years and have a little one.

We have finally booked our wedding for 20th July 2013 and I told my mum and dad who live in spain on Sunday. My mum has sent me a message on FB today, telling me that they wont be attending because the flights from Spain to Lpool are too expensive in July and that they doubt they would be able to take time off work. (This isn't what I am mad at, as I guessed that this would happen, and have already got my Brother on stand by to give me away)

What i'm really mad at is, I have asked several times if I was baptised and my Mum swore blind to me that I was, I have no Grandparents to ask if this is true, and I stupidly believed her. I have rang all the churches in the area including the one she claims I was christened in, and no one has a a record of me being baptised. My old church has a record of my first holy communion and confirmation but say my mum never showed the baptism proof.

What do I do know? I have booked a Catholic Church thinking I was christened!
    xx

Oh sweetie I can't believe she doesn't have anything to prove that you were christened. Doesn't the fact that you have taken your first communion and your confirmation prove that you've been christened? If not can't you just take part in a private christening before the wedding? I'm really not sure what else to say, sorry x

Apparently my church didn't want to exclude me as I had only joined the school a week previously, but my mum promised them I had been christened as a baby xx

Are you having a full nuptial mass hun or just a wedding service? If its just a service and not the mass only one of you should need to be christened. If you have a chat with your parish priest I'm sure he will understand and be happy to baptise you especially since you've shown your commitment to your religion by taking your first communion and being confirmed.

We are getting married in a catholic church and as I didnt go to a catholic school I was never confirmed despite the fact I've always practiced and our priest is happy to confirm me!

As for the flight prices I'm pretty sure they haven't been released for 2013 yet so if you found out the release date and stood by to book them straight away you should be able to get them pretty cheap! We have a place in Spain and go over a lot so we always book super early for peak times and never pay too much for our flights! My HTB is a teacher so we are always stuck to expensive dates!!

That's a ridiculous excuse from your parents! Can you not be christened in the meantime?

First I would get christened before the wedding you have 13 months so its plenty of time... doesnt have to be a big afair or anything.

Secondly Flights havent been released yet only up untill march and again its 13 months could they not save? or could you offer to pay half? x

Your all right, it is a lame excuse, we have even offered to pay for them, but they said they can't afford to take time off work. To be honest its exactly what I expected, although my H2b is livid about it. I guess you can't choose your family??

if there is no proof, then i would be more inclined to think ur mum lied about it hun. but i suggest maybe having a baptism before the service. especially as u have been loyal to ur religion xx

I agree with the other ladies. Tell your priest was has happened and how your mum swore to you that you were baptised and ask him if he would mind baptising you before you marry. I am sure he will understand xxx

First of all hun, I cannot believe the excuse from your parents ...............they have over a year to plan, book leave and save to come over!

H2B and I are getting married in a Catholic church (same one my parents were married in, I was baptised in and had my first holy communion, I was confirmed in a different church as we moved to a different parish). Anyway, H2B isn't Catholic but is baptised in the Methodist church so you don't both have to be baptised in the Catholic church to get married there, only one of you has to be - and we were given the choice of just the marriage ceremony or that with mass.

I do find it strange that you be allowed to have both your first communion (I presume at 7 or 8) and also then get confirmed (I presume at 15) without being baptised. If it is dependant on you being baptised because your H2B isn't baptised in the Catholic church can you get it done before the wedding? Don't worry hun, you still have time xx

I'm with everyone else. Look into getting baptised :) Although it is strange that the church accepted you without proof in the first place and allowed you to take holy communion without proof of you being baptised!

I'm also shocked at the excuse from your parents... I can't believe that! Plenty of notice and plenty of time to save money up for the time off they would be having! Absolutely awful that is! I could never miss my childs wedding! It only happens once and I'd deal with the loss of earnings for a few days!
