I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but at 22 I have only ever seen costs escalate over time and I was wondering whether it is at all likely that prices will decline if our economic situation improves in the next few years?
The cost for the venue we have our eye on has increased dramatically since last year, and while I know that it was a bargain to begin with, and I don't blame them for reaping what they deserve, I wonder if that will get more or less expensive over the coming years as we still have a lot of saving to do.
    Any thoughts?
    xx

It will only get higher as inflation goes up.... we booked our big things like venue, transport photographer and my dress last year so proces were fixed at 2012 prices. I actually booked the photographer and paid a higher deposit so he offered to charge 2011 prices instead.

In a rescission people dont have as much money so means you can bargain on prices better as actually people even businesses have less money in there pocket so we have used it to our advantage and pushed harder. No point in keeping the savings in my bank as not earning interest really so may as well use the savings as a good bargining tool.

That was my first assumption, I've never known prices to drop :/ but unfortunately we are not in secure jobs and so wont be able to put down deposits until we have a more accurate idea of how long we'll need to save. Trying not to let it bother me, after all marriage is for life so it doesn't really matter how long it takes us to get hitched - plans are to save this year and see where we stand at the start of 2014! x

i think it will all increase with inflation i'm afraid, unless you change your day to a weekday or through the low season you can save some money that way as they usually offer discounts but other than that i'm afraid you will just have to bite the bullet and pay up.

you could also put a deposit on it now and ask them to confirm that they will let you have it at this years prices even though your getting married next year, thats another way of getting round the yearly price increase.

Definitely want to take the sensible, well-considered approach. Our other plan besides saving this year is to visit all the places we fancy, as they all look like great places to spend the day anyway, it just so happened that we saw an excellent deal for our number 1 choice and just spent the weekend there. Its everything we both hoped it would be and more, so I'll be surprised if anywhere else trumps it! Unfortunately they don't take bookings more than a year in advance so we can't secure the price. xx

I think sadly things tend to go up in price every year so it'll only get more expensive as time goes on. x

I think it will be a good few years before we see prices even out and stop increasing. We've got to come fully out of the recession first then have a steady few years so banks will lend to small businesses again and the knock on effect is more jobs so more people can get back into employment, get promotions ect. They have more money to spend and wages go up as businesses do well again. Its a waiting game. My mum told me the 1980's were bad and then things were good around the milenium and now they been bad again last few years. She reckons it all runs in cycles x

    Yep, definately a cycle thing...

It's difficult to compare prices year on year as the value of the pound changes too as do the amount people's wages tend to increase.
Prices never seem to go down, but the amount of money people have to spend tends to go down or up. In fact, in times when there isn't a recession, prices go up quicker because people have more money...in my personal experience, I think we have gotten some things a bit cheaper as a result of the recession - for example, our venue are still doing 2011 prices.

This does seem to have gone on a long time though....xx
