Only thing I can think of is trying to make your own paper and putting leaves or flowers in it!!! Don't know if you've made paper before but it's quite easy and there's loads of videos on the tube of you! xx

yea make your own paper that would be really nice or when autumn comes round go to the woods and collect some leaves and laminate them and put their names on with a gold or silver pen or something thats a nice way of doing place cards and your could get some twigs from the local woods spray paint them silver or gold and put them in a pot in the centre of the table and hang them on it

What about making salt dough somethings?...maybe of a strand of wheat and tying a little label with a hand written name on it?
This is what i have used, as we are using bird cages as our centre pieces, we have salt dough white doves as our table place cards x they look great! There are so many ideas and even better if you can use a simple cookie cutter.....all the easier! x

ahh ok, i will post a pic of what i made on here in a bit, recipe is...depending how many u need to make...2 cups plain flour one cup salt and about just over half cup of water, but add water gradually as you mix otherwise you end up with a very sticky glue! lol x

plenty of flour on the surface as it can get warm and sticky when u roll it out etc, then flat baking tray and a minimal heat oven for a good few hours, you can do it in a microwave too but i am unsure on the settings and times, so go for oven as oit works really well :)

Thank you! Thats perfect. I am going to use the black and white wooden roses I got off the bay for place settings. I thought maybe I could bake these in a nice shape and carve each persons name into the flour and attach them to a rose with some nice ribbon. Do you think that would work?

or the shape of a leaf? if you are attatching to the roses you already have?.....personally i would paint on or pen on the name after they have been baked as you can loose intricate details like fine carvings as the dough cooks. best thing to do, try it....try the carving and see what you think? good idea tho it will look great!

Actually, painting the names on would be easier wouldnt it, my mans a great artist actually. I could paint the colour on and ask him to do the names in fancy writing. Can you just use ordinary paint? Sorry futureborough for invading your thread lol. Thanks again for the help! Thats one more thing decided on :-)

I was thinking of doing a bird shape or a butterfly shape. I've got butterflies to put on the outside of the cages but I originally wanted to have a bird inside the cage, we decided on just roses and fake diamonds instead.

How are you decorating your cages? Ive found it hard to find any photos to get ideas but I think we've settled on the roses now

the cages i will be using are circular ones, and the flowers i will use on the day will be matching my bouquet, there are fairy lights entwined into the flowers as we are unable to use pillar candes at our venue :(
this is just a mock up i made to see what it would look like and how long the flowers lasted in the oasis.

these are my ikkle salt dough birds, i used acrylic paint for them xxx

Awww they are beautiful, the tables will look stunning!! I'll do a mock up and get a photo on here as soon as I get a chance. Love the birds too! So cute!!
Mines quite different, im having 4 roses inside the cage with some fake pearls n diamonds in the bottom of the cage. Got a wee butterfly to pin to the outside and some petals to put round the bottom :-) Havent decided how to get the roses to stand up in the cage yet though.....lol

Thank you for the salt dough idea, its a winner :-)

you are welcome and easy to do too :)
to get the roses to stand up you can get the dried oasis (the dark grey one, not the green foam) they are very sturdy and if ur only having 4 roses inside the cage, you will only need a small square in each cage which you can wrap ribbon round it? then cover with your diamonds and pearls so u cant even se the oasis x

see I thought about oasis but I didnt know what to cover it with...I love really pretty lace ribbon so thats a fab idea! Thank you again. I was gunna attempt to stick the pearls to it with double sided tape but worried that it will look patchy...Im not very good at crafty stuff lol

I was looking for small black vases but I can only find ones for like £12 and Im not paying that. Id have to buy 6. So the jam jars is another good idea. I might buy some oasis and see what it turns out like :-)
