the main cost is usually down to the number of guests, apart from that a wedding can be as cost effective or expensive as you like! how many guests are you hoping for? xxx

What about a 2 course hot fork buffet?

IE curries, chillie, lasagna, potatoes, rice, salads then cheesecake - people get a proper dinner and soakes up more alcohol

    Ceremony about 4pm

    Food - 6 ish

Dancing for the rest of the night?

I think it sounds like a good idea but im thinking canopies may not be enough. I remember someone on here saying they was gonna do afternoon tea instead of a sit down meal which i thought was a good idea. And because afternoon tea includes sandwiches, it would be a bit more filling for people and then they would last till the evening buffet.

if you go to the may 2011 thread there are pics on there of us having the bbq. They had load of different meats, then loads of salad, bread, veg, then a choice of 2 desserts. It was £16 per head, half price for children x

our venue have been really good so far - everything has been really affordable - it's a country inn/ pub in norfolk, just north of norwich. paying £17 a head for 3 course wedding breakfast :) £8 a head for evening buffet. so this fits well into our budget of £3500. Even looking like we might have some left over! If you get the right venue it can be really good value. Our method of deciding what sort of food we were going to have was setting a budget per head and asking around different venues to see what they could do for that price. It turned out to be quite a good way of testing which venues were most affordable and helpful :) xxx

We are having an afternoon tea party for our reception and cutting out the evening do due to expense. So we have got lots of lovely buffet food from M&S and from where my h2b works, so a posh buffet with some old favourites thrown in. If we had done the whole day then we would have got a hog roast as well most likely. We just didn't like the idea of a sit down meal with courses people might not eat, I would have got a bit bridezilla at anyone wasting food that we had paid over £70 a head for! x

Based on the prices we have been quoted for just a few canapes I would rather a hog roast or the combination of a hot and cold buffet. Sounds lovely to me!

katie we have arranged for canapes and sandwiches to be laid out for the day guests after the ceremony and then a full buffet in the evening.

we were originally having a sit down meal in the afternoon, but due to financial reasons have scrapped it.

i wouldnt worry about people thinking your being mean, at the end of the day if they truly love you they will understand how you are fixed and on the flip side not everyone enjoys a sit down meal.
