It is because the Volcanic dust has blown into the UK air space or something like that xx

i've tried to have a look on google earth, i don't think its a populated area.

onewilson, ginge is right, the volcanic dust has been blown over, we can't see it, but it can play havoc with planes.
    xx

Some flights (Canada, USA) fly in the slipstream from off of Iceland, so it will affect them quite a bit, plus with wind etc it may blow some of the ash into our area too.

    Hi ladies,

**Also posted on the other thread about this subject***

For a more in depth read of what's going on, go to The Independant's website as they have a full report.

ALL Airports in England and Scotland are closed as of 12:00 noon today and there is likely to be major disruptions tomorrow, due to the threat of the Volcanic Ash...it doesn't do much for Aeroplane engine's health ;-)

There is currently a jet-stream over Iceland that is blowing the ash south-east, which will move it over Scotland, Norway and Denmark. However, the MET office aren't sure of where, when or how much ash will fall.

Check with your Airline to see what is happening, if you are due to fly anywhere within the next few days and you can also check the MET Office website and NATS (National Air Traffic Services) for more information.

...It has put my weekend plans on hold as well, as I am a Pilot! :|

    Hope this has helped,

    Regards,

    Scott.

My boss is currently on the phone as her daughter is flying back from her honeymoon in India today! The flight has taken off from Delhi, but has been told it's not allowed to land in Heathrow, so looks like they might be spending the night in Paris!
