Ok, we have our venue but im starting to worry about the whole cost so was talking to h2b about maybe putting it together ourselves rather than paying more to have it all in one place and alot dun for us i.e. caterers, dj etc etc.... so finding a venue for ceremony or having church wedding which h2b would like as hes catholic anyway or registry office then finding somewhere to have wedding breakfast and evening reception.........

My friend and MOH had her 30th in a lovely Hall in Kew which is an old church and the hire charges are £40 per hour which is sooooooooooooo cheap!! so im wondering how much caterers cost roughly, djs etc etc and all them bits that would of been provided by our venue that i'd have to get myself?

Sorry if im not making any sense and well done to anyone who can actually understand me lol

Im having my reception in a village hall hun. Our catering is costing approx £26 per head for a 3 course meal, then £6.50 per head for the buffet in the evening but u only need to cater for about 70% in the evening. Our dj is £400 but that is expensive coz we are paying to have the best. But u can get them alot cheaper.

If your having a meal you need a venue that will have a big enough kitchen, and allow external caterers, if its buffet they have alot already prepared and usually just walm some stuff up there.... your gonna have to ring around it might not be much cheaper but more hassle.

The key question when having external caterers is have they got their own equipment? Some venues don't have enough cookers, fridge space etc and they have to bring in their own (it can be done). Find out what the venue has and work around that. You can shop around with a venue like a hall and get it loads cheaper than if you go to a hotel venue.

We are having our breakfast and evening do at the same place. The breakfast is about £19 per head with no room charge if we have over 80 people, and the evening is £180 with a buffet £4.50 per head. Gonna work out really cheap coz our guest are paying £15 each for their meals.

You would have to ring round and compare what exactly you are going to get for what price and then haggle like mad - it does work x

Remember and call local restaurants too as it may not be obvious but they might do outside catering

We are paying for everything ourselves, so I know the pressure you're under chick. Try and sit down and work out roughly how much you can afford if you can, this will help ALOT!
You will always pay a premium at a hotel for all the little extras, so you will save money left right and centre on those things straight off if you have a hall and decorate it yourself. Catering varies, so try and get some quotes and compare the prices.
We have also saved alot by getting married later in the day and having a hot buffet rather than a full wedding breakfast, then later having bacon rolls for evening guests. If you're doing it yourself then you could put cold nibbles out at night, rather than a massive buffet. Gets several quotes for DJ's too as they all offer different things also.
It can be done babes, you just need to ditch the things you don't need, and cut back on the things you do!
    Hope this helps xx
